  1. Hi: I'm back again asking for information. I have resolved how to take all but one of my medications. Does anyone have leg cramps and have to take quinine for them. I take qualaquin, the only one sold in the United States. It is a large capsule, and I was advised not to swallow it. This is the worst tasting powder, and I need some advice. When I called the nurse today, she didn't have any answers. I need to know what others do about leg cramps and meds for them. Please let me know if you have any infol. I was banded 7/21/08. Thanks, norad10 norab4avon@aol.com:eek:
  2. Hi: I am 3 1/2 wks from being banded, I lost 10 lbs on pre opt, to be honest, I cheated and had to get some last things eaten. Since the surgery, I have lost another 13 lbs. I think mine is slow, as I was to lose approx 50 lbs, or at the most 60 lbs. I kind of worry, because I know once I add food (real food) it is supposed to slow down. I would be interested in knowing if anyone is losing faster and what they are consuming. I am still on liquids. But I am allowed to add 1/2 banana to my high protein shake daily because of leg cramps. I would assume we are all getting under 1000 calories a day, so I thought it would come down faster. Anyone have some answers? Nora norad4avon@aol.com

    need info on taking medications

I saw dr today, down 20 + from when I started, I was told when I finished the liquid prozac, I could try to take capsules. The leg cramps are horrible. My general practioner, said I was not getting enough quinine the way I was taking the med. I just tried to swallow it whole, and so far I can get it down. I am going to call the nurse tomorrow and find out if I can start pureed foods. It's been three weeks, and I am getting bored. But not by how I look. How are you doing with your medications. Nora

    need info on taking medications

Thanks for your answer. I told the dr today, and they sent me for a ultra sound on my left leg. I have pain from ankle to knee only on left leg. I am waiting for answer, will call tomorrow a.m. I was a little disappointed today, as I was hoping to go on pureed food. But doctor said to stay on liquids for another 1 to 2 weeks. I know I will be lusting at my son's bithday party sunday, but since I am not hungry, I am sure I will survive. Wish I hadn't volunteered to bake special cake. I'm 2 wks, 1 day, and except for small skin infection, because nurse left 2 staples in, I am doing good. Once all the gas goes I am sure I will feel great. I am so happy now, that I finally conveniced the insurance to cover procedure. Really think I made the right decision. How do you feel about this. Nora norab4avon@aol.com
  7. How are people dealing with taking medications after the lapband. I was told I could not swallow anything larger than an aspirin. I have found ways to cut pills, and some can be prescribed as liquid. I have one large capsule that I take for leg cramps, it is quinine (extremely nasty tasting) and it does not desolve in liquid, I really can not see me having to get this down, even for the next few days. Does anyone else have a similiar situation, and what do you do. I am desperate to resolve this. I was banded 8 days ago, am 65 years old, and so far, so good. HELP!!! norad10 you can answer me at norab4avon@aol.com:confused2:

    Back Pain

Hi: I was banded the same day, and this afternoon, I started having real bad back pain. Having my kid try to massage it didn't work. Around midnight, I had a green apple two step to the bathroom, and now most of the pain is gone. I think most of this is gas fr the procedure. Nora norad10 norab4avon@aol.com

    Seventy or more????

Hi: Good for you, it took 7 months of pressuring my insurance company and jumping through their hoops. I'm 65 and was banded on 7/21/08, I didn't think I would get the o'k' because of my age. and was told 65 was the top age. But now I am finding out they are doing the procedure on into people's 70's. I hope your date is moved up, I know how hard it is when you are ready and then have to wait and wait. good luck, norad10

Surgeon thought to risky at my age for the bypass, but said lap band would be good. doctor at alta bates does not take health net for lap band. What now????? Nora
  19. Hi: Am new to this, I need to know if anyone has hills physicians insurance, thru health net. I was approved for the bypass surgery, but not the lap band. I have called several hospitals, and seems hills doesn't approve the lapband, even when surgeon says best option for me. Help!!! Nora
  20. has anyone had experience with health net paying for lap band surgery? I was approved for biaratic surgery, but when I met with the surgeon he said that he recommended the lap band for me bacause of age, and he doesn't do the surgery. I was scheduled for an appointment with the doctor that does the lap bands for this hospital, and then was called and told the doctor doesn't take health net. My case manager at health net does not know what to do. she has told me that they only have approved the surgery to be performed at this hospital. Has anyone had similiar experiences. After 3 months I am really disappointed. Nora:confused:

    New 60+ Thread

I need to know if anyone has dealth with Health Net Insurance? I was approveds for bariatriic surgery. Surgeon said I should have lap band, as other has 5% dealth rate per studies. Now I am told that the surgeon at the hospital I was assigned to, does not accept health net. It seems no one at the hospital has an answer for me, including case manager at health net insurance. Would appreciate if someone can provide info on this.l Actually, the lap band was what I originally wanted, and kind of was talked out of by hospital staff.d thanks, Nora:sad_smile:
