Ideas for post op liquids
LillieDuFran replied to riemgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was same day and struggling with protein. Doing good on water. But hoping to hear suggestions -
I'm 65 and scheduled for 10/5. I'm doing two week pre op, and hanging in. I'm excited about surgery, nervous about recovery & nausea. All tips appreciated. i Sent from my XT1575 using BariatricPal mobile app

Cost of wls across the south
LillieDuFran replied to Gatorgirl1953's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm in NC, self pay. Everything including insurance for complications was $13,000. But my BMI was too low for insurance, my comorbidities we're all very high. So for us we felt it money well spent. I'm a week out Thursday. -
I found bone broth, almond milk & unflavored protein powder are tastier. Room temp.

My surgery was am of 10/5, but ended up with a second surgery that same day due to blood loss. So, didn't get home from hospital till yesterday (10/8). I am doing well on posst-op liquids. Finding I like "homemade" broth with unflavored protein in it better than the shakes, which have a weird texture to me right now. IS ANYONE ELSE tired! I mean, "slap the dog lay down & sleep" tired?

Pinterest has some that look good (I'm still immediate pre op). Also, there are Kindle/Amazon recipe books for $2.99

What was your mental state after surgery?
LillieDuFran replied to cassislame's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery went a bit sideways. Got done & BP crashed. Cardiologist came in, but it turned out be bleeding from surgery. Second surgery fixed it. Not discouraged, as I feel great, just tired. Going home tomorrow! -
Well I had my surgery yesterday 10 five, at about 8. Went upstairs and was in the recovery room. Then my blood strip pressure started dropping out and they were worried increase fluids Etc. And then he had to go back in and check for a bleeder and we found it. And I went up to ICU and in this afternoon after I was feeling better I am back down in a regular room. That said, it wasn't a bad or frightening experience at all I've been able to have broth and Jell-O and Crystal Light today and use the bathroom and I hope to go home tomorrow. Everything went fine, we thought
LillieDuFran posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery this morning seem to go fine. But my blood pressure started to drop, so since I have heart thing they checked all that out and didn't find anything. Next likely culprit was a bleed, they went back in found it cleaned everything up inspected everything again so hit me back up and sent me upstairs with two units of blood. Doing great no pain ice chips. Planning on going home tomorrow. Even with all that it was not a bad surgery. Sent from my XT1575 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Surgery Tomorrow AM early (10/5) PRE OP JOURNEY
LillieDuFran posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PRE OP: I did two weeks on Optifast800, which was very "doable". I had 3 shakes, a soup, and a bar until the last two days, where the bar was discontinued. I found that drinking water (which apparently will be my new go-to) relieved any headache issue with the sudden drop in carbs & sugar in my day. I have lost, as of this morning, 15 or so pounds, plus 8 inches collectively from bust, waist & hips. I am hoping my liver is in good shape! (I know I have fatty liver per biopsy). I did not get a lot of walking in, which I had intended to do. Although the weather got cool & clear, my stomach reacted to the diet with great variability, meaning stay close to the bathroom! I have not been, nor am I this morning with less than 24 hours to go, been anxious. Dr. Heider and his staff did an amazing job on the pre-op workshop. Literally, they covered everything. I've had lots of surgeries in my life (even open heart), but I feel the most prepared for this one. You all sharing your stories has been incredibly helpful in answering more personal questions, and just generous support. I also found great recipes for every stage on Pinterest. Organizing recipes for "after" was very stress relieving for me. I also found that there is a "predictable" way to alter most recipes at every stage in order to eat the things we love or at least a satisfying replica that is now healthy. My journey is different than many of you; I'm older (65) and have had lots of health challenges. But what a joy to share it with you and know that each of you is moving towards optimal health, and a fuller experience of life! I so wish I had been as wise as you earlier in life. Thanks! Annie -

What was your mental state after surgery?
LillieDuFran replied to cassislame's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, I'm very sorry that some of you are dealing with depression (I have MDD and its a tough task master without good tools - meds, psychologist, diet & exercise). IF you are in a critical spot, you can text the CrisisTextLine, 741741. It's free, confidential and highly trained counselors who are also mandated reporters, in case you are in danger. They will help you through immediate crisis, and assist you in gathering local resources. I have volunteered with them for about 2 years, since retirement. I am hoping that my post op experience will be positive, regardless of the physical issues. I'm praying for a new lease on life! And I have done lots of research, gathered recipes, sort of previewed in my mind situations that have been past triggers for eating. Many people with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and/or MDD feel less anxious when they feel they have more control. So organizing and planning has been a good tool for me to get through. That said, tomorrow is my surgery! Will be praying for each of you to feel better in your hearts/soul. -
How did you guys do on your pre op diet?
LillieDuFran replied to Road2health's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor uses Optifast 800 for preop. Obviously 800 calories a day. It is 3 shakes, 1 bar, and a fairly good soup until the last two days when you don't have the bar. Also, until last 2 days, you can have cucumbers and celery (I passed). I'm down 15 or so pounds and 8 collective inches. I found it very easy to do, and hunger has been able to be handled with water, hot tea, lemonade crystal light. I could have had one cup of regular coffee, but I am not drinking coffee without creamer. I do have fatty liver infiltration (by biopsy) and I do think each doctor uses what he's found to give his patients the most successful and doable pre-op possible. Surgery at 8 am tomorrow! Hang tough! You've got this. -
Calling all October sleevers!!

Anybody on the pre op liver shrinking diet???
LillieDuFran replied to juju7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on it for 13 days tomorrow is my last day before surgery. I've lost 15 lb, and once I figured out the headache only came when I was a little dehydrated and I drink water it was highly doable. I've had lots of unsweetened tea mostly hot, and Crystal Light Lemonade. But really have felt pretty good. grateful my liver will be as small as it can be. PRE-OP DIET STARTS TODAY
LillieDuFran replied to sassy683's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll do well! I have one day left on my pre-op, surgery on Thursday. It's been pretty easy (3 optifast shakes, 1 bar, 1 soup) daily. If you get a headache, hydrate! I found unsweetened warm tea (Constant Comment, or Ginger) were comforting & filling, and lemonade Crystal Light. You will do fantastically! -
Second month after having problems
LillieDuFran replied to Kevsmama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's your MIL! Discussing others flaws, unless you're offering some awfully great assistance to them and are talking directly to them is a dreadful behavior! My family was relatively critical of my appearance "my you don't look like anyone" (which meant the family, not the world), or the "your sister is so tiny". Well I was 130, 5'4 and athletic, so that was junk. Compliments do trigger me with great discomfort. At 65, I have figured out mine is because 1) they might be joking; 2) they might have a reason and 3) I do not live in my body very well. Sigh. Hope it gets easier for y'all. -
HELPPPP ME :( I cant stop itching
LillieDuFran replied to IdontWant2beAfatty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My rather simple question, have you changed laundry products? I've had similar symptoms and it was that easy. If you have, you don't have to get rid of the detergent. Just add 1/4 C vinegar to your rinse cycle. Hope you are feeling better. -
Oh my! I'm almost done with mine and have not cheated because I decided to take "cheat" out of my vocabulary. : It really hasn't been as bad as I anticipated. I have not been hungry at all, and except for a very slight headache the 2nd day, no adverse effects. I hope yours goes as well!

Has sleeve helped with comorbidity?
LillieDuFran replied to ButterflyNinja's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have not yet had my sleeve (Thursday, yay!). My doctor said he normally discontinues meds (BP, diabetes, statins) with surgery. However, as a cardiac patient, I needed okay from my cardiologist on the statins. He said absolutely not. I take a 20 mg statin and also a twice monthly shot for high cholesterol. I have had a triple bypass which failed after 6 months, which was crushing. SO even though your bariatric doctor is great, be sure your other long-term doctors are on board. It's always about health. My bariatric doctor was not offended or upset. He truly cares about my health! -
Might need another surgery.
LillieDuFran replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@dreamingsmall, so good to hear you are on the better side of the, even if it's still a steep climb. It's good to know you have a good medical team I had my last "solid" food just now, a protein bar. It's liquids till Wednesday night, then NPO. Hospital at 6 am Thursday. I'm down 14 lbs so far. No nerves about surgery. Please keep in touch, and keep healing! I'm not the one who wants to keep it a secret.
LillieDuFran replied to oopsydaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm comfortable with transparency, to a point. But I'm 65 & have been chronically ill the last 10. Lots of surgeries, 23 meds a day. So my doing WLS to help resolve some health issues is my answer because it's true. And weight loss will do this. I don't work, so I truly don't have to deal with what y'all are. My family is gone, my kids are grown & supportive. I am not telling my husband's family. Tall, skinny & high metabolism. They won't get it. Sent from my XT1575 using BariatricPal mobile app -
