    Ideas for post op liquids

Mine was same day and struggling with protein. Doing good on water. But hoping to hear suggestions

Cost of wls across the south

I'm in NC, self pay. Everything including insurance for complications was $13,000. But my BMI was too low for insurance, my comorbidities we're all very high. So for us we felt it money well spent. I'm a week out Thursday.

    Protein belly issues

I found bone broth, almond milk & unflavored protein powder are tastier. Room temp.
  4. My surgery was am of 10/5, but ended up with a second surgery that same day due to blood loss. So, didn't get home from hospital till yesterday (10/8). I am doing well on posst-op liquids. Finding I like "homemade" broth with unflavored protein in it better than the shakes, which have a weird texture to me right now. IS ANYONE ELSE tired! I mean, "slap the dog lay down & sleep" tired?

    Post op recipes

Pinterest has some that look good (I'm still immediate pre op). Also, there are Kindle/Amazon recipe books for $2.99
  6. My surgery went a bit sideways. Got done & BP crashed. Cardiologist came in, but it turned out be bleeding from surgery. Second surgery fixed it. Not discouraged, as I feel great, just tired. Going home tomorrow!
  7. Well I had my surgery yesterday 10 five, at about 8. Went upstairs and was in the recovery room. Then my blood strip pressure started dropping out and they were worried increase fluids Etc. And then he had to go back in and check for a bleeder and we found it. And I went up to ICU and in this afternoon after I was feeling better I am back down in a regular room. That said, it wasn't a bad or frightening experience at all I've been able to have broth and Jell-O and Crystal Light today and use the bathroom and I hope to go home tomorrow. 8. Surgery this morning seem to go fine. But my blood pressure started to drop, so since I have heart thing they checked all that out and didn't find anything. Next likely culprit was a bleed, they went back in found it cleaned everything up inspected everything again so hit me back up and sent me upstairs with two units of blood. Doing great no pain ice chips. Planning on going home tomorrow. Even with all that it was not a bad surgery. Sent from my XT1575 using BariatricPal mobile app

  11. First, I'm very sorry that some of you are dealing with depression (I have MDD and its a tough task master without good tools - meds, psychologist, diet & exercise). IF you are in a critical spot, you can text the CrisisTextLine, 741741. It's free, confidential and highly trained counselors who are also mandated reporters, in case you are in danger. They will help you through immediate crisis, and assist you in gathering local resources. I have volunteered with them for about 2 years, since retirement. I am hoping that my post op experience will be positive, regardless of the physical issues. I'm praying for a new lease on life! And I have done lots of research, gathered recipes, sort of previewed in my mind situations that have been past triggers for eating. Many people with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and/or MDD feel less anxious when they feel they have more control. So organizing and planning has been a good tool for me to get through. That said, tomorrow is my surgery! Will be praying for each of you to feel better in your hearts/soul.
  12. My doctor uses Optifast 800 for preop. Obviously 800 calories a day. It is 3 shakes, 1 bar, and a fairly good soup until the last two days when you don't have the bar. Also, until last 2 days, you can have cucumbers and celery (I passed). I'm down 15 or so pounds and 8 collective inches. I found it very easy to do, and hunger has been able to be handled with water, hot tea, lemonade crystal light. I could have had one cup of regular coffee, but I am not drinking coffee without creamer. I do have fatty liver infiltration (by biopsy) and I do think each doctor uses what he's found to give his patients the most successful and doable pre-op possible. Surgery at 8 am tomorrow! Hang tough! You've got this.
  13. PRE OP: I did two weeks on Optifast800, which was very "doable". I had 3 shakes, a soup, and a bar until the last two days, where the bar was discontinued. I found that drinking water (which apparently will be my new go-to) relieved any headache issue with the sudden drop in carbs & sugar in my day. I have lost, as of this morning, 15 or so pounds, plus 8 inches collectively from bust, waist & hips. I am hoping my liver is in good shape! (I know I have fatty liver per biopsy). I did not get a lot of walking in, which I had intended to do. Although the weather got cool & clear, my stomach reacted to the diet with great variability, meaning stay close to the bathroom! I have not been, nor am I this morning with less than 24 hours to go, been anxious. Dr. Heider and his staff did an amazing job on the pre-op workshop. Literally, they covered everything. I've had lots of surgeries in my life (even open heart), but I feel the most prepared for this one. You all sharing your stories has been incredibly helpful in answering more personal questions, and just generous support. I also found great recipes for every stage on Pinterest. Organizing recipes for "after" was very stress relieving for me. I also found that there is a "predictable" way to alter most recipes at every stage in order to eat the things we love or at least a satisfying replica that is now healthy. My journey is different than many of you; I'm older (65) and have had lots of health challenges. But what a joy to share it with you and know that each of you is moving towards optimal health, and a fuller experience of life! I so wish I had been as wise as you earlier in life. Thanks! Annie

    Calling all October sleevers!!

What a great thought! No self sabotage and onward to health! Hope it worked out wonderfully and your recovery is good.
  15. I've been on it for 13 days tomorrow is my last day before surgery. I've lost 15 lb, and once I figured out the headache only came when I was a little dehydrated and I drink water it was highly doable. I've had lots of unsweetened tea mostly hot, and Crystal Light Lemonade. But really have felt pretty good. grateful my liver will be as small as it can be.
