Is there anything you wish you'd been told pre-op?
froufrou replied to Pippa1703's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I'd been told that if you get a leak in your stomach (which I did), that you'd most likely be in hospital for an extended time. That really hit me hard and I had no plans in place if that did happen. Disaster! I felt that the surgery really skipped over the topic... it was there, mentioned in the paperwork, but the reality of it is something else. Everyone, even though the chances of you getting a leak are very small, please make sure you do have a plan if it happens to you. I had to fly my mum out from the UK to take care of my kid (who has autism) for 3 months. Also, I didn't quite realise first time round that there is a honeymoon period with these surgeries. Make the most of them! Edit: Also, if you are self pay... make sure you know what the costs will be if you do end up in hospital with a leak. I WAS going to do self pay over here in the States and god only knows what that would have ended up costing. I don't know if my insurance would have covered it... I doubt it. When all was said and done, my Gastric Sleeve surgery with complications cost just under a million dollars. Had I been self pay, most likely our family would be bankrupt by now. -
My breath or weird smell?
froufrou replied to gabybab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what it is... maybe Ketosis? I had it when I had the sleeve and I have it again and I cannot stand it. It's a particular smell that is really horrible! -
Taco Bell... They do refried beans with cheese on top. You can add some guac on the side. That'll fill you up! Panera do soups Oatmeal with splenda or sugar free maple syrup Just keep everything small portions. Maybe take a small 2oz container so that you can see how much you need. p.s. I wouldn't try any new foods when you are out and about... Stick with something you know.

Food Before and After Photos

I can't wait to see the results! I also love your food choices. I'm vegetarian (have been since birth and I'm 49 now) - and they are really inspiring. Oh, I meant to ask... where do you buy hazelnut oil? I might have to try out the Braggs Amino acids - I haven't ever used it, I always use Marmite to make my dishes 'meaty'. I LOVE Marmite with a little butter on a Ryvita with cucumber on top. Yum. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
froufrou replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my op on 5th Feb and I am still mainly staying on the puree stage - I find it's better for my stomach at the moment. I had a lot of scar tissue taken out from my previous sleeve surgery, so I think that's why. I am really enjoying refried beans, porridge (I put a bit of sugar free jam on top with some sugar free maple syrup), and yesterday I made cauliflower cheese by steaming the heck out of the cauliflower, mashing it to a pulp and then mixing in a bit of white pasta sauce. When I come to cook it, I put a bit of parmesan on and blitz it in the microwave. It's delicious! I think I'm going to stick a bit longer on purees... I just wasn't enjoying throwing everything up! -

I've read through this whole thread - it's great! I was just wondering though, did you ever make the Everything Bagels @GreenTealael ? -

what's the worse things about bypass
froufrou replied to BucksMum99's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
They say you can have a bath 3-6 weeks, depending on whether your incisions are healed or not. I have a seroma which just isn't healing up, so I can't have a bath yet. I can have showers, but I just don't feel like they get me as clean as soaking in a bath. Plus I just love the relaxing factor of baths. Just hoping my incisions heal soon. -
Sneezing and Other Weird Signs Your Pouch is Full

Omg, the throwing up thing is driving me nuts. I can't seem to gauge properly when I am full. I think I might go back on liquids for a bit. -

what's the worse things about bypass
froufrou replied to BucksMum99's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve last time and it just didn't work for me. Besides having a leak, I just felt hungry all the time! I came around from surgery and felt hungry. It just did not work for me. Having the bypass has been great! I am not hungry. At all. I know it's early days (just over three weeks), but this feels so much better. Recovery has been slow, but that's to be expected after a big operation. My stomach felt like I had a hundred bee stings on my skin. So strange. I have a seroma that's being stubborn, but is starting to heal. I am DYING for a bath! But in the grand scheme of things these are all pretty minor things. -
I loved having my robe. But, I guess you don't know whether you need it or not until you are at the hospital. I over packed this time because of the leak I had last time that left me in hospital for 2.5 months - I didn't want to be caught short again.

A few days before my Gastric Bypass surgery I weighed in at 306. Then I did a liquid diet for 2 days and got down to 300. When I weighed myself at the hospital after surgery I was 318 !! Now back at home I am 311 but have been this weight for the last few days. Why is that? I am drinking liquids... Am I just broken now after my sleeve to bypass revision? Is this it? Starting to kind of freak out in my mind.

I took a robe - just for added comfort.

First real temptation

You must be absolutely exhausted! I hope you can get some rest and get back to looking after YOU now. Well done for getting through it. -
Everyone knew I was having the sleeve operation and therefore everyone knew about my leak (hard to miss seeing as I was in hospital for over 2 months). This time, for my RNY I decided not to tell everyone - I just didn't feel like it. I'm tired of the judgements, etc. I told my mum and sister, and then I told my mother in law I was going to have it (just didn't tell her when I actually DID have it) and obviously my husband knows. However, when I told my mother in law that I'd had it done, she decided to take it upon herself to tell the rest of my husband's family. When I kindly asked her to not tell anyone else, she stopped communicating with me. That's how it still stands. She said I should have told her not to tell anyone, but I thought it was obvious because I hadn't told them prior to my surgery. Stupid me. At the end of the day OP, it's up to you. It's your body and people should respect that. Maybe down the line, when you feel more comfortable, you can tell your partner. In the meantime, we are all here and we know what you are going through

Serving size-3 months post op

This is fantastic - I wish I had been given this information before and after my operations. -
Oh yes, I forgot that one haha. Didn't happen to me last time because of my sleeve leak. Glad to see I'm 'normal'! lol Thank you for reminding me

Aaaaaaand it's come to an abrupt halt again. Have not lost a single pound for the last 4 days. This is going to be a very very slow weight loss if it continues like this.

I am two weeks out from my surgery and I am still in pain. The left side of my stomach is hurting the most all the way along to my hip. When I came around from surgery it felt like my surgeon had ripped out my left ovary... did anyone else feel this way? (only ladies obvs haha). I still have pain in my left hip and my ovary, which my surgeon's office is confused about. I also have this kind of bee sting/burning feeling on my skin around my main incision. I was given pain meds for the first week. I am now being told that it is too far out now to give me any pain meds and I need to go back to my pcp. Thoughts?

I also don't want them digging around in my wound 😫 I can do a lot of things, but I swear this seroma is one of the worst things I've had to deal with! haha. It's like those pimple popper videos... omg I can't watch them. I might give it a few more days and see. It's not red, hot, smelly or green yet. I don't have a fever. If I get any of those then I'll be straight in. I'm just not dealing with this pain though. It's making me really really grumpy.
-
I had a drain on the right side which was taken out the day I came home. I didn't have one on the left side and I definitely have a Seroma. It is still draining. Do you think that's what's causing my pain? I would say I have a high tolerance but I think it's the length of time I have been in pain that's wearing me down.

No weight loss 11 days after bypass

Probably the best idea for her is to log every single thing she is eating and drinking and then get in touch with her nutritionist. -
I can confirm that my weight is dropping off!
