Surgery didn’t work?
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for banning this person. I’m a new post op patient as well as a nurse myself of 21 years, and I’ve never ever heard such awful, degrading and patronizing speech from someone esp professing to be a professional in healthcare (albeit she refused to give up her state of practice 😂) on a forum such as from Abeille. Thank you for banning this so called professional. Thank goodness God sees all, and this self proclaimed “egotistical” mental woman will be judged in her own due time for her unkindness toward people, esp those of us vulnerable at this delicate time. -

Yes the carbs 3 wks post op for me we’re so awfully hard on my tummy & the next day I was so extremely distended that I actually called the surgeons office concerned maybe I sprung a leak in my staple line..? Granted, this was just my first attempt at a few small portions of beans in the soup, so it must be that for my particular body it’s just not settling as well as proteins. It’s a great source of protein but was just so hard on my tummy. I couldn’t eat anything the next day except an egg I was so sick. Never had this issue before either. Anyway I’ll give them a try again in a couple months & stick w/ more protein for now.

Agree agree agree!!! I’ve JUST had his happen to me & it’s so true!! My hubby so lovingly made me soft white bean chili yesterday & although great in protein it’s high in carbs... I ate a small portion about every 3 hours yesterday!!! Feeling it today yuck!! Will not do that ever again. Also have a additional 1.4 lb weight gain today! No thanks getting back to more protein than carbs now!

Congratulations for making it this far! I’m post op 3 wks & I know the fatigue & sheer exhaustion all too well! It will be better week by week but sleeping heals the body, so sleep!!! I’m still napping every day at 3 weeks post op too! Hope your going to give yourself permission to nap or sleep as much as you need to! It crucial to emotional & physical wellness post op & can linger for a month to 6 months or even a year (as per my surgeon). So your doing great! Hugs!! -
Your feeling normal at this point! Your going to be just fine, just sip as your comfortable at this point. Your going to be feeling very different week by week at this early stage and the most imp thing to do is to listen to your body, (aside from getting protein in). You’ll get into the water routine again, esp since you were a water drinker before!! Your protein drinks counts towards your water intake too, but try & sip as you can-& if you think your really dehydrated, then you truly need to call your Dr for a possible liquid infusion if the tongue is this dry after a week post op (unless it’s anti nausea patch/meds or something causing it?)

My nutritionist said 48 oz min was great! Yes 64 oz if you can but if not (right now) it’s ok!!! She’s said it dozens of times & it’s in all the printed info from my bariatric team, (“A Center of Excellence”) plus I’ve read the same thing online in several places so I know it’s true. I have the EXACT SAME ISSUE!! As a matter of fact that’s why I was looking at the latest forum postings! I havn’t been able to get in any water & I’m 3 wks post op. Yikes. But I really need to work on it. So I read today (online as well as when I got out & read in my nutritionist handouts) that all liquids DO COUNT toward the daily intake amount!! So if you can choke down broth, tea, flavored waters, even your protein shakes count! It made me feel a sigh of relief. So protein shakes are 11 oz a piece & I can drink two per day so at least I’ve been getting in 22 oz a day. Not great but it’s something. Today (because I’m very unhappy with my wt loss results so far of 6 pounds since surg day), I choked down 20 oz of water. It’s about noon so I’ll make myself choke down more later today but it’s a chore to me!! I sympathize w/ you!!

Anyone under 300lbs getting the surgery?
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to Stella210's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So happy for you & already able to post? That’s awesome! I had my RNY 3 weeks ago & was way too drained to post anything for a full week at least! Anyway many congrats to you for making it so far! I was 227 lbs on surg day & only managed to lose 6 lbs after surgery so far!? It’s crazy! I hope your wt loss goes quicker than mine! I havn’t been drinking water as it’s made me sick, so today finally choked down 20 oz so far (& it’s only noon) so I’ll def be getting in another 20-40 oz today. If you can, sip all day on water to increase wt loss. Congrats! -
Thank you! Really good to know that thirst will follow after you wake up the thirst. Did not even realize that?!! Great! Well today I’ve drank 20 oz of plain water so far (it’s about noon) & feel much”fuller” already, but I have to say, a bit of flavoring is def what a person like me needs to keep this up! Great tips!!
-
Thank you, your so right. Ive never been a water drinker & so it’s a difficult task to get liquid down. I’m going to try getting water in through low sodium broth again if necessary. Thanks for that tip!

So excited for you!!! Yaay!!! Congratulations!!its going to be over before you know it! Hugs!

Wow down 20 pounds post surg. is incredible! Congratulations!!! I’m down 6 post surg but that’s ok it’ll come off. I’m glad to know I’m not tye not one stalling! I’ve heard that when real foods are introduced we do better energy-wise. Hopefully that will help you (& me soon too, I’m exhausted!!) -
I’m taking Multi vits 4 x/day including b12, iron & calcium. Yes I’m strict about that daily & protein. I’ve heard exhaustion is normal severely x 4-6 Weeks & less severe for 4-6 months! Yikes!
-
Yes other than that feeling good! Getting in 60 grams of protein daily through shakes & trying to drink water but only getting in... a little

RNY-Fall-2017 replied to Ladycop2070's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
My high weight was 242 as well and surgery day I was 227. (Can’t believe how close we were to each other starting out!) I’m 3 Weeks post op rny (surg was Oct 17th). I cannot wait to get to my 3 Month post op mark too & can only hope I’m in the 180-190’s too! Your doing fantastic coming from 242!!! -
5’7” 226 BMI 35 anyone similar? December ‘17 surgery
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to Ladycop2070's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Yes! I was very similar situation actually!! Im 5’8” & 238, started out with a BMI of 35-36, but had lots of blood pressure issues & on CPAP! So I qualified. I’m 3 wks post op rny & lost 21 lbs total (preop fluid diet I lost 15 lbs on no sodium broths and lost 6 after surgery so far). I’m just beginning my post op journey but hear lots of people lose about minimum of 2-3 lbs per wk (or more) post op at a lower BMI like ours. Seems to be true with me, but we can rest assured that even with smaller losses per week, it will pick up and should remain steady! That’s 8-10 lbs per month minimum, so I’ll take it! In 5 months that’s 50 lbs minimum gone! -
Anyone under 300lbs getting the surgery?
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to Stella210's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just got the rny 3 weeks ago!! I was 238-242 lbs starting out and am 5’8”. My BMI was only like 36, but I’ve had super high bp (one reading was 210/109 pre-op despite being on bp meds). Happy to say that I’m off all bp meds & have lost 21 lbs total so far (15 lbs preop fluid diet w/ no sodium broths, and 6 lost since after surgery) for total of 21 lost so far. -
Help needed in picking protein shakes
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to jeff4free's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I tried the soy eas and liked it. I’m lactose intolerant too but it appears I’m not as sensitive as you to the lactose. I bought a huge jug of the Soy Eas but the kind I got had 17 grams of sugar (fructose) per serving, and it should only be 5 grams or below (per my nutritionist), so I stopped drinking it pre-op and went back to premier protein shakes. I would recommend you buy the premier protein powder and use ITV with lactose free milk. You’ll be happy you did post surgery because you’ll want a protein drink with the most grams of protein since you won’t be able to drink much with that little stomach. -
Help needed in picking protein shakes
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to jeff4free's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I’m post op 3 wks, and Premier Protein has the most protein at 30 grams and IS THE BEST TASTING in my opinion. Preop I could drink every flavor, but post op I can only drink the chocolate flavor. Taste buds change boy oh boyyyyy!! -
Thank you, most of it was from the fluid diet wt loss occurring preop though. I lost 15 preop from no sodium broth (yuckkk!) but it sure worked, and only 6 post op. But 21 lbs total so I’ll take it! I’m too scared that I’ll be disappointed to try to shop, so I’ll wait in that, but it’ll be soon that you’ll see the sizes move!
