Surgery didn’t work?
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No not in my experience it’s not awful very often. It’s very supportive and kind. I too was extremely shocked and disheartened at this thread, however it’s the ONLY thread I myself have come across like this. Take heart, we’re all bruised, vulnerable and in need of MUCH kindness, support and love during this difficult time, there were just a few sour apples who happened upon this thread unfortunately. Truly, it’s a wonderful forum and the creator of the forum is very strict about his policy and thankfully very considerate of our vulnerabilities at this time. He generally steps in quickly when alerted to right the wrongs & protect us. I hope this helps?💕 Hugs to you dear friend❤️ Jennifer -

I agree!!? It makes no sense at all to me and besides, why would someone even join this or any support group to begin with if their not going to be SUPPORTIVE?! Truly is sad. I just am so very thankful for all the kindness out there towards myself and so many others I read about on this forum. It’s a delicate and extremely vulnerable time for so many of us, largely Ide say everyone, and we need each other’s kind support👌🏻 Hugs! 💕Jennifer☺️ -

I can only HOPE to get down to what I was at 19- that was the best time of my life, & I was so active. I got married at 19 actually, & I think I was about 150-155lbs & I’m about 5’8.5” to 5’9”. So was pretty thin! We’ll see though, truly Ide be happy at 170 though! Seriously! Heres me before my surgery and me now at 6 weeks post op. I think I see a difference but it’s hard when you see yourself daily...I hate that! But I def see it in everyone else’s pics!!😜 -

That’s So frustrating!! Those stalls do something to us mentally & it’s so hard to remember we’ll start losing again soon, but it WILL come off! 😃 For me it didn’t want to come off til I started eating actual food again. Your about 4 wks our so prob just getting into that now..? I bet you’ll start seeing it come off pretty quickly here anytime!! I’m interested in how you do! I’m so excited for you!!!!! Congrats on making it this far!! Yaay! Hugs!👌🏼💕 Jennifer -

10 lbs a month is awesome, I’de be happy with that. I only lost 13 lbs the first month post op (not including preop fluid diet). I’ve read 10 lbs a month give it take is great. I hope I can maintain that too! Great work!!!💕Hugs, Jennifer -

Oh my goodness! That’s awful what you’ve been through and I’m so sorry! I’m glad your on the mend with your kidneys & the sepsis is gone! Wow how scary!! Re: the weight loss- that’s gotta be the BEST WEIGHT LOSS in 15 weeks ever! I can hardly believe it!! That’s truly amazing. You deserve it after that! I hope that’s the last of your complications though. I’ll follow you & watch your progress! Stay well! Hugs! Jennifer 💕 -
Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had rny 10/17/17 & had it the whole first month but then it got better. I still have a little but nothing like the first month. I can handle cheese & milk fine but ice cream & protein shakes give me gas (but not the awful, AWFULLLL smell like right after surgery. TMI?!😂 I hope yours is temporary too, everyone’s body changes with this and it’s typical to have lactose intolerance post op that does last, however. 😬 If so can you take a gas pill every morning? That helped me. Hugs and keep your chin up! Jen -

Your doing phenomenal! Wow girl, what an AWESOME job! It’s def not easy after this surgery but when the weight starts coming off reasonably well & we can start to have confidence in our surgery working, it soon becomes the best decision ever. I’m feeling that confidence finally now & Im so glad! Yaay happy for you & me too! hugs! Jennifer -

I went in for my 1 month post op rny follow up today. I told my surgeon I was grossed out by crystal lite now, salt and popsicles & he said “that’s great actually because we’re seeing now that the surgical patients with these taste buds changes post op are actually doing better post op & are keeping weight off.” So it’s a good thing!😃 I was so happy!! Just thought Ide share what he said at today’s appt, however, that’s not to say those who do not have taste changes cannot lose & keep weight off too. We all can if we keep to our program. Hugs! -
So happy for you!! Congrats on getting your surgery and being at a week post op! I didn’t have a drain but I’ve heard they are irritating & can be painful to remove. Sounds like walking would be a best-like you say. I hope you give yourself plenty of permission to sleep AS MUCH AS YOU NEED! I was so fatigued, just totally exhausted.

What's your favorite pre-op protein? I HATE sucralose
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to FloridaElle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink Premier Protein chocolate everyday & love it. I’m 4 weeks post op & it’s very flavorful without a bad aftertaste. Prior to surgery, I loved the Premier Protein “Banana Creme” the best & “Caramel” was good too. After surgery these two flavors are just way too sweet for me, but I still love the chocolate. They have 30 grams of protein too!! -
Disappointed by food
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to retonya kidd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m sorry your hungry, that’s gotta change for you to stay happy with the decision to have surgery. So looks like your surgery was about about a month & a half ago.... so are you on soft foods? Or solids? What kind of things are you eating? Are you finding any satiety from things like canned chicken or canned tuna or fish? I’m only 4 wks post op rny & was feeling so hungry at week 3 into this week, week 4..but happily am finding these are so flavorful and satisfying. (My program wouldn’t let me have tuna, chic or fish til today, week 4). I actually just finished a tuna patty (made w/ mayo and dill relish & pepper) and topped with melted cheese on it. You could try that. So yummy & high in protein. I’m FINALLY not feeling hungry at all with solids now, albeit soft solids. -

I too cannot wait to eat my first SALAD! I’m week 4 post op rny & really craving a salad and all the wonderful protein toppings. Yumm I have noticed strange aftertastes with most of the things I put in my mouth though. For me, the aftertaste is definitely heightened and a bit irritating sometimes like when I’m trying to go to sleep even despite brushing my teeth sometimes. Salt is the one thing that really stands out to me as an obnoxious taste. Most things that I used to eat with some salt I can’t stand now with much added salt. -

RNY-Fall-2017 replied to retonya kidd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol that’s so true. Actually that’s what alot of us actually want for a period of time with these surgeries, so we can focus on other things and can move away from the food addiction, hence losing weight. -
Oh my goodness I’m so sorry. It sounds like you’ve really been through a lot! That must be awfully difficult. I hope you feel better very soon.
-
Yes it sounds very normal, and maybe better than a lot of us actually! Wow great job! I know for me I’m only a month out but I’ve only lost 15 lbs in 4 weeks. So I think your doing fantastic for losing 44 lbs in just a couple months! Great work. Remember slow & STEADY weight loss is good! Keep up the hard work!👌🏼

Great job and really great attitude. 👌🏼 So fresh to hear thankfulness about weight loss (esp after some really awful things have been said lately on this thread but happily that person is banned now).
