DRIVING POST OP - what did you do??
JRT Mom replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's great if you don't have to drive, but it's darn near impossible for some people. I agree that you should be off narcotics and let someone else drive if you can, but not everyone has someone to help them. Just be extra careful! -
Anyone go to hospital alone?
JRT Mom replied to loridee11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting surgery 4 hours away and we have three dogs so my husband is staying at home to take care of them. I am riding the train both up and back and will only need an Uber to get from the hospital to the Metro which I will ride to the train station. I'm the sort that really doesn't want anyone hanging around when I'm recovering so it's all good. -
https://www.healthycell.com/blog/best-vegan-multivitamin-doesnt-come-in-a-pill?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI37L9q4-25QIViZyzCh1_SQCYEAAYASAAEgJpPfD_BwE This website has an interesting discussion about what a vegan needs to supplement with. I realize it is a company that is selling a product but their points are valid. You can Google vegan multivitamins and get lots of good sources. However, they don't factor WLS into it--maybe your surgeon can give you some insight.

Are you considering vegetarianism or full veganism? Being a true vegan is extremely hard, and with WLS you need some protein. I don't eat anything that was alive, but I do eat eggs and cheese, both good protein sources. You'll really have to read labels closely. Anything with gelatin in it isn't vegetarian since it's made of cow hooves. Even many of the vitamins you'll have to take after your surgery aren't vegetarian. Any type of gel cap medicine isn't vegetarian. And it's hard to find an omega-3 fatty acid supplement since those are usually made of fish oil. There are some good vegetable broths out there--when I make soup I use them instead of chicken broth. Anyway, good luck!

Favorite clothing post op/weight loss mode?
JRT Mom replied to momof3_angels's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Comfy clothes is all I EVER wear. I HATE shopping for clothes and would rather be comfortable than stylish. I'm lucky that I chose a career where I get to wear scrubs every day! -
Wonderful! Getting off the BP meds is WAAAAAY more epic than what the scales say. We are doing this for our health, and you've shown that it really helps!

4 SLEEPS TO GO ! excited !!!
JRT Mom replied to New&Improved's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I love reading posts like this one where someone getting WLS is truly excited about it. It's infectious, and it certainly makes my decision to revise feel better. So keep 'em coming, peeps! -
When I got my lap band I went 3 years without touching a soda. But then I discovered if I poured it waaaay up high over my glass most of the fizz came out of it and I started drinking it again. I'm having issues with my band, but a barium swallow shows no slippage or stretching of my pouch. I've always contended that you'll burp out all the excess gas before you'll stretch your pouch, and it appears that it was true in my case, but as Briswife15 sez-YMMV. See what your surgeon recommends. Now hopefully soon I will be getting a revision from a lap band to a RNY and if the surgeon says "no fizz" I will drop it in a New York Minute!

Welcome to the gun show!!🔫🔫

Better not--it's a little hard on my keyboard. They don't take well to excessive moisture, ya know...😘

I guess I should tone it down. What's the rating on this forum?😁

Anybody NOT need an endoscopy before WLS?
JRT Mom replied to Aodhanmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't need either a sleep study or an endoscopy but I already have two comorbidities (HBP and diabetes) so I guess they didn't have to find anything else wrong to do the surgery. -
Dang Dtrain84, you don't look like the same person at all! Looking goooooood😍 That's a man for you though... "Gee I want to lose some weight. I'll eat one less carb" Two days later down 25 pounds... Seriously I know you've worked hard and you look great. Now I go gotta get a sponge and dry the drool offa my keyboard...😏

It largely depends on your insurance company. If you are self pay it will undoubtedly take less time than insurance since most insurances require a 3 to 6 month medically supervised diet.

Circadian Code as it Relates to Eating
JRT Mom replied to HappyHikerGal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have worked night shift for 30 years, and while I can't blame it entirely on my obesity, I've always thought it probably played a major part in it. Thanks for the link--it was interesting! -
That's great! Having a PCP that is behind your decision for WLS can make things a lot easier. This whole process takes a team and if one person isn't on board it'll probably still work, but it's like a 8 cylinder car with one bad spark plug-it'll run but be really choppy!

Ha--one of these days we'll get RFID chips like they put in our dogs that have all this info on it and they'll scan you when you get to the ER and know EVERYTHING about you including your insurance info and credit score... Start making your aluminum foil hats people--it's coming!😁 Seriously, a med alert bracelet isn't a bad idea and there are certainly some pretty ones out there.

Welcome Tilli13! This site is a treasure trove of both good information but more importantly emotional support. Your picture shows you are a beautiful lady at any weight, but just imagine how much better you'll feel without having to carry all that excess weight around. My doctor also doesn't require any weight loss. It doesn't really make sense to have to put off our surgery for 3-6 months if they aren't going to make us lose any weight. Think about how much closer we'd be to a healthier weight if we didn't have to wait. I know that rule is insurance driven, but it still doesn't make any sense to me...

What a wonderful uplifting post! With your positive attitude you will do well. God bless.

CHEWABLE MULTIVITAMINS???
JRT Mom replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little concerned about how you would know this...😊 My doctor said no gummy vitamins. I'm going to ask why next time I go. Gummy calcium and gummy B12 is ok just not multivitamins. Sounds strange to me... -
Why are they making you wait so long for your revision if you are so sick? That sounds sorta mean to me!
