  1. Hello wonderful people of the interwebs! I'm currently looking for a buddy who may be able to provide some support, and vice versa. I love communicating with someone who is genuine, honest, blunt, and maybe funny. I've been having some emotional issues while going through the first few weeks since my surgery on September 18th. I am on depression and anxiety meds at the moment and I have been having a hard time with doing liquids the first few weeks, and haven't been on my depression or anxiety meds until I see my PCP on October 5th. I was an emotional eater for a good portion of my life, so being on liquids and liquids only for the last few weeks has been very, very hard... But, it will be worth it. So, I just need to chat... Hopefully someone on here may want to know me! Thank you for reading. You're beautiful. -Tiff
  2. Does anyone have trouble with urinating? Should I be concerned that when I feel like I have to use the restroom, nothing tends to really come out. Prior to surgery, I didn't have an issue, but now I'm not too sure, maybe I need to drink more water? Any suggestions, comments, etc. are always appreciated, thank you!

    Urination Issue?

I had gastric on 9/18/17, and the first few days I seemed to be perfectly fine, and it happened like normal. More water will definitely be included, thank you so much for the response. I am really sorry that you're going through this, but I am also so glad that I'm not the only one who is having this happen. I'm hoping it's just my bodies way of being in stock.. I don't know though, it's odd. Thank you for the response. I will definitely bring this up with my doctor or go to the walk-in clinic to be able to get checked out, since my next appointment is a month away, eek.. Just went in today, but alas, didn't mention it.. Grr. Thank you for the response.
  4. Hi there, I had gastric bypass surgery on September 18th and have been taking my Enoxaparin Sodium injections twice a day, once at 9am and once at 9pm. I noticed, near an injection site, that a lump has formed. It's tender if I push down on it a bit, and the swelling hasn't gone down since I noticed in yesterday. Should this be alarming? I don't see my PCP until October 5th. Thank you in advance for any comments given!

    What If They Ask?

Lol no schedule, just kind of happened when it happened. Some people didn't know until the day of surgery when I sent out a mass text to the family. I'm a pretty private person though so telling people has never been a big to-do list in my head.

    What If They Ask?

I'm a week post-op today and have only time my immediate family, my late in-laws, and my boyfriend. No one else needs to know, and if they bluntly ask I'll just tell them that I have gotten on track with my life and made a change to be a better me. I don't feel as if I'll have lied to anyone, because that's exactly what I did. (:
  7. Thank you so much for the comment, @chasingpolaris321! I haven't gotten a whole lot of bruising until lately, but I'm only a week out today so I'm sure it takes some time. I will definitely check with my PCP when I go see her, but until then it's nice to know that I'm not alone with these lumps.

    Medical Marijuana

I was up front and very blunt when I started the program in November of 2016, and told my original nurse that yes, I used to smoke and had recently (days before) when going to the appointment.. She said that she shouldn't even admit me into the program with the use of smoking anything, weed or otherwise, but that in good conscious, so long as I quit, everything would be fine. Apparently my hospital had a 2 month no-smoke period before even starting the gastric process (oops, had no idea!)... As @Half-Tum mentioned, I probably wouldn't mention it either.. but that's also just due to genuine worry.. However, if you look up some information on your hospital in particular, maybe that would lead you in the right direction as far as what you may feel comfortable opening up about. I would normally say honest is best, but that almost kicked me in the teeth before lol.

I'm a current a pre-op patient who will undergo Gastric Bypass on 9/18/17 via the UWMC in Seattle, WA - and I am very excited to be here! I'm hoping to make some friends and genuinely gain some helpful information along the way. Any tidbits of information pertaining to surgery day is always welcomed, because I'm a bit nervous. I'll be bringing: Comfy clothes, a phone charger, my laptop, gas-X, a bariatric abdominal binder, medications and my CPAP machine. Hope to meet some wonderful people! -Tiff
