My story is very similar to most who suffer obesity. I have struggled with my weight since about the age of 15 and there was just a gradual increase that never seemed to stop. By the time I got married, I was 180lbs (which I wish I was now!) and then it just creeped up over the next 20+ years to a max weight of 325lbs.
I have tried every diet on the market and could never lose more than 40lbs, except when I decided to just count calories. I was so faithful to my program, logging every bite, and would never let ANY bad foods cross my lips (even being offended if someone offered something bad to me). I made it to an 87lb loss, keeping it off for over 2 years. I really felt great! BUT THEN....(doesn't everyone have a "but then" story? Lol.)....one day I allowed a french fry back into my life, and it sent my taste buds swirling. It made me recall how much I loved unhealthy food. I ended up gaining back everything I had lost, except 18lbs. I was devastated that I allowed this to happen; and yes! It was all my own fault!
Fast forward to this year. A friend mentioned the lap band to me and asked if I had ever checked into it. That sent me into a deep investigation of what it was all about, and before I knew it, I was standing in Dr. Bagnato's office for a consult. I told him how much weight I had lost before and this is what he said that changed my life forever:
"You know how to lose weight. You've shown that. BUT! you have been dieting with a "broken shovel." The LapBand will help you diet with a "working shovel."
Then - it all made sense. The choice was clear. So, on September 14, 2017, I had the surgery. Although I am only a week and a half out - I have lost 20.5lbs (since pre-op the week before) and am looking forward to my first fill in 5 weeks. Then, I know that the journey of weight loss (and gaining back my life) will begin. I am super, SUPER excited, and thankful for this opportunity to make this happen, ONCE and FOR ALL!
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
