...and I feel good. A bit sore, but no big deal. I was reading some posts here and now I'm wondering if my Protein shake has been too thick all along! I didn't realize there are "clear" Protein drinks, I just chose one that mixes well with Water and have used it since surgery. My surgeon says this is fine (it goes down with no problems), but I'm wondering if something like this could cause a SLIP? Does a SLIP happen as a result of eating something you should not? How does one know if they have a slip, is it obvious?? I have had some frozen yogurt, too, and am freaking out thinking I've caused harm to my band! :phanvan I feel really good though and realize I may be being paranoid! Kelli

Ischemia to what, the stomach? I'm not sure what you are saying. There is usually ischemia of the heart due to myocardial infarction or many other reasons, but I have never heard of ischemia of the stomach? Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly. Kelli:nervous

Before being banded, I did ediets as well. I loved their program and organization. I think it is really the most efficient way to plan your meals. I might even do it alongside with my band. Kelli

There should be no shame in taking care of yourself. It is a courageous act. Kelli

Well, I'm sure that saves your family lots of worry! Kelli

Randy, I will try those!! Interesting work you do especially among the most recent tragedy. My grandfather was a coal miner and it fascinates me that people have the nerve to do that! In Chicago, at the science museum, they have a simulated coal mine that you can tour, and it freaked me out! Kelli

Hi Robin! I was just banded a week ago and already am so thankful I chose this route. I was freakin scared, too, so I can relate. Best wishes to you preop!! Kelli

Hi Jen, Welcome. I'm new here, but I guess I can still welcome people! LOL. Kelli

Randy and brojas, I think it's going very very good! I am 1 week postop today and cannot believe it! I have been maintaining myself with Protein shakes, chicken broth, Water, GUM, and tonight I had split pea Soup (nothing in it). I am really hungry tonight!! I did have some pudding which is obviously not a clear liquid, but it went down fine. I am beginning to want to eat mushies really bad. Was your wife 2 weeks out before she had those taters? That sounds so good! My doctor said, "no mashed taters!" LOL. I can't wait! Thanks for asking--did I notice in a thread that you work in a coal mine? I had my surgery with Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco. My surgeon is Dr. John Feng. My experience with him has been excellent and I would highly recommend him. Kelli

Questions, Questions and more Questions

This clear liquid still confuses me. I have talked to my dr. and what I'm doing is okay, but my Protein shake is not clear by any means and I am tolerating it well. I am 1 week out from surgery and whenever I read that I'm still supposed to be on clear liquids, I hope I'm not messing anything up with my Protein shakes. I just assumed that protein shakes are included in the first couple of weeks after surgery. Kelli -
That sounds so traumatic! Hope you're feeling better! Kelli

Geez, that guy must be a really miserable person. That is all I can think of when someone cuts someone else down; that they are really miserable themselves. Sorry you had such a bad experience. It had little to do with you in the grand scheme of things. Kelli

Hi there, I'm new here too--just banded last week--this is a great forum to obtain lots of information! I set aside some time and read through many posts and learned much. Kelli

I work as a medical transcriptionist from my home. I love it! Kelli

No doubt! LOL That whole clear and thick or full liquid thing was making me obsessive. :heh: Kelli

Hey Tina, You had mentioned Kristi in your other post and I thought you were referring to my sister, that is the exact same way she spells her name and you met her, but you're talking about the dietician! That's funny. I have researched the lap band for 2 years now. I just find it interesting how each surgeon has a different protocol for doing things. I'm happy you are doing well. :couch2: I just made the assumption I would be doing normal stuff like walking and showering, which I am, I think I actually may slow down for a couple of days. Incidentally, I had 2 oral surgeries last year that were much worse than this, thank goodness! EDIT: By the way, after reading my questions and the other posters, I was thinking, I must have missed something along the way! LOL I emailed Dr. Feng and talked with him and I DID! I missed the entire part of my post op material for "General Guidelines: Liquids and Solids." Geez, how flakey is that! Okay, that material has completely answered all of my questions. The whole creamy/yogurt question really confused me. Take care, Kelli

I'm confused by what has whey in it and what does not. For instance, I have been using a supplement which has gobs of Vitamins in it with 41 grams of Protein per serving. Is that whey protein? I mix it with Water and it is really tasty, but I want to make sure I'm drinking a quality product. Kelli

Jessie, This did help, thank you! I was not aware that the most Protein one can digest is 30 at a time. I have learned something totally new now, the difference between whey and soy! Cool! Kelli

Hi! I had surgery on 2/2/06 in San Francisco by Dr. John Feng. :biggrin1: I'm not getting on the scale until 1 week postop. Thanks! Kelli

Sunta, In the Inamed booklet that I received at the time of surgery, it says that in the first 4 weeks low-fat yogurt is okay. It did say to avoid creamy foods, but I become confused about the whole yogurt issue. I have been on liquids for a week now and I guess it's not so bad. I have had a couple of really strong cravings for some pretzels, but I figure they'll be making pretzels for a long time. I'll have them later. Kelli

Skye, I was just banded on 2/2/06 and something I have found to be true in other areas of life as well as being banded is that just taking action and allowing the emotions to catch up is okay. For instance, I prayed about and thought about the band for a couple of years, but up until the surgery date I kept wondering if I could do it w/o the band, if the surgical risks were worth it, yada yada. Because all of this was based on fear and I do not want to live my life making decisions because of fear,I decided to go ahead and hop on the operating room table. Since taking action, believe it or not, my emotions are following because I feel very good about what I did. Now I'm not saying there will not be some grief in having to give up food, but it is only temporary and like someone else posted, your appetite is not the same the first couple weeks of surgery. I think what you're experiencing is completely normal. Kelli

Randy, No human kids here, just pugs! Do you recommend any one in particular? Kelli
-
Randy, Why no straws? Because of too much air? I have been using a straw with my Protein drinks and it did cross my mind that it isn't a good idea. I haven't tried baby food, seems like it would be too bland and not worth it. Kelli

I'm driving myself batty with what I can and cannot have since being banded on 2/2. I just do not want to mess something up! I have been drinking/sipping Protein shakes since surgery. I mix the powder with Water, not milk, and each package has 41 grams of protein. Then, though, I was reading about staying on "clear liquids" for 3 weeks and my Protein Drink is surely not a clear liquid, but how would you get the protein you need through a clear liquid? Thanks, Kelli
-
Tina, NO WAY! That's cool, they told me they met another bandste! Sounds like you're eating about what I am except I have regular Campbell's soup. That clarification is what I've been looking for regarding "clear liquids." Dr. Feng did say in an email to him that I shouldn't have anything creamy which excludes many Soups, but before I knew that I ate some cream of chicken soup which went down great! :biggrin1: I have read here though that many are going to mushies in the third week. Quite honestly, I feel great, just a little dizzy now and then. So, are you waiting until the third week to eat "cream of" soups? Here's my home email if you want to touch base. kellib1@comcast.net Where you in the recovery room right when I came out of surgery? I remember a woman with blondish/brown hair? Kelli
