Married people....8 out of ten of us will get divorced within 2 years
Danny Paul replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Happened to me with my first marriage. My first wife although a beautiful woman was very jealous. After losing 50 pounds due to heart by pass surgery she started to feel that I was now looking to meet someone else. Never mind that we always spent all of our none working time together with our kids. It got to a point where she just made it impossible for us to be together. Imagine, I didn't lose the weight on purpose, it was a result of an operation to save my life. Side Note: The weight stayed off for four years after that I gained the 50 pounds and then some back. Today, my current wife is happy that I had WLS for my health and doesn't feel threatened at all. One of my friends told her that she should be careful that the other ladies in the complex don't start looking to get me. My wife told him, "hope they run fast because this guy is always running chasing me around.". It all depends on where you are in your marriage and who you're with. This time I hope to keep the wife and lose the pounds permanently. -
My dizziness was due to my BP meds. Doctor took me off of the BP meds and my BP not only went down my dizziness stopped.

Lose in energy.
Danny Paul replied to Anthony Pamaran's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being tired is normal for the first few weeks. Your body is healing and you're getting fewer nutrients. It should pass. -
NYC employee with GHI. Went to White Plains Hospital and highly recommend it. The surgeon top notch as is the staff. The RN that coordinates the program is very competent and returns all inquiries in a timely manner. The hospital itself was the best. They are now part of the Montefiore Hospital Network. It's a six-month process with monthly visits to a nutritionist, pulmonary specialist, need an endoscopy, visit a psychiatrist and attend one group session.

It's only natural to have trepidations before surgery. The majority here had them. Just get walking as soon as you can it will help you recover faster.

Anyone else feel out of place on nights like tonight?
Danny Paul replied to kandywolf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Parties don't bother me. I can socialize without eating the food. It's the restaurants that I'm uncomfortable in. I used to eat out 3-4 times a week and now I avoid restaurants. Went out last week to celebrate my adult sons birthday with family in a restaurant. I told him to order two dishes that he likes since he would be taking them home. I took a few nibbles of one of the dishes and had it packed for him to take home. I prefer to stay home and eat alone these days. -

It was a six month process 1- visit nutrionist each month 2- see Pulomary specialist 3- Get an endoscopy 4- see a psychiatrist 5- Attend one group meeting They will walk you through it Not doing what's popular just doing what's Right. -
I was in a stall after three weeks and I was in a one month stall right after Christmas. I was only three months post op then. Thank goodness for my monthly support group. Everyone there told me it was normal and they were right. You will lose the weight.

Had rotator cuff surgery and with PT I was still able to do cardio. The most important thing is to go to PT and make sure you do the exercises in the office and at home.

I have GHI Emblem Health and I went to White Plains Hospital. It's a great program with a great Surgeon who has a very supportive staff. The RN running the process is very helpful and will get back to you when you call or email. I live in NY and last went to Jacobi in the 90's I don't consider it a good hospital. -
I had to see a psychiatrist as part of my six month work up for insurance. The surgeon recommended the psychiatrist. I'm certain that you can go to someone else for your bariaric psyche evaluation. If your paying out of pocket you may not have to see the psychiatrist.

I know the feeling. Have to get up and walk it off. When I eat too fast or something too dense I get a pain in my sternum and then I start to spit out mucous. The only thing that helps me is to walk around and let time take care of it.

Post-Op Diabetes Question
Danny Paul replied to MrsGamgee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I walked out of the hospital minus four diabetes medications. My blood sugar levels and A1c are going down. As for the other lovely diabetes stuff, I didn't have any so I can't comment. -

Thanks for sharing your success story. I welcome these stories because it inspires me to keep the weight off. You and your daughter both look marvelous. -
In the killing two birds with one stone department I want to add protein powder to my water. This way I can get my fluids in and also get some protein. I went to the vitamin Shoppe and purchased what the clerk said was a plain protein powder. It might not taste like chocolate, vanilla or strawberry but it tasted awful. Needless to say I took it back. What are you guys using and where do you get it. Mahalo.

How does one get past the fear of having ANY bypass surgery?
Danny Paul replied to Eire_Rose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You dont I had open heart bypass many years ago and I would not want to be opened up like that ever again. Thats why I had the sleeve instead of gastric by pass it was done laparoscopy. If the sleeve was not an option I would have forgone WLS Sent from my SM-T350 using BariatricPal mobile app -
My feeling is that I'm a recovering food addict. My addiction is to food and it will not go away. Each day I have to make the choice to not let food run my life. In the past my world was centered on food. Going out to eat 3-4 times a week, getting together with friends at restaurants, looking to eat that next dish I saw on the food network. Today my focus is on my health. The main reason for my WLS was due to all of my medical conditions and the amount of medications that I was taking to control them. Eventually, the medications would have caused me to have liver and kidney problems and the underlying problems would only progressively get worse. WLS has given me a jump start to better health. I know that eventually I must make the changes needed so that I don't let my food addiction take over take my life again. I'm trying each and every day by trusting in the process, trusting in me and most of all taking it one day at a time. If I break up my recovery by a single day I seem to manage it well. I don't want to overeat one day and say I'll make it up tomorrow. My mindset has to be that I need to stay in the parameters set for the day and to reach that goal. 80 plus of proteins, 64 ounces of water, 30 or less of carbs, 1,200 or less calories. To do this I stay pretty much regimented as to what I eat. I don't stray off the plan and I don't experiment much. As I said in the past I'm the guy who can't just have one so I decided on taking none. I go on multiple WLS forums to get the expertise of the those who have succeeded over the long run. I don't look at how others have failed since I have many ways myself to fail. I need to see what others have done right and try to incoroporate those things for long term success. So, you're right to say that there are similarities to others who are addicted to other things.

10 days post op with bad butt and side of butt pain
Danny Paul replied to Keeks17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Similar experience, since losing the weight. My butt hurts when I sit on anything not padded. Example, the seat of a NYC train. When I take the train I now stand because it hurts too much to sit down for the entire ride. I guess that's one of the prices we pay for the rapid weight loss. Hey, I'll take it and after all it's better for me to stand than to sit. -

Danny Paul replied to Chesney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My dizziness after surgery was caused by low blood pressure. Stopped my blood pressure medications and the problem was corrected. -
My nutritionist had me give up carbonated beverages pre op. I haven't had any carbonated beverages since then. I don't miss them and I don't want to experiment to see if it will give me pain if I drink it.
