    Soups?

It is weird how so many surgeons are different in what they allow. Mine says liquids only (including shakes) for 3 weeks in phase 1 and then move to phase 2 where I can have like puréed foods for 2 weeks and then soft foods after that.
  2. I have moderate osteoarthritis in both knees so walking has been difficult. I'm fine as long as I only walk short distances, but know I need to get my walking in. Does anyone else have knee issues and did their knee pain get relieved with this surgery?
  3. Is anyone sleeping on their side right after surgery? I was told best to sleep on my back for 2 weeks. I am 4 days post op. I am a side sleeper, and my back is starting to hurt sleeping on my back. I'm just afraid to sleep on my back for fear it may mess up my surgery. Does anyone else have this problem?
  4. Do most people gain weight once they start the next phase? I'm only 1.5 weeks post op, and I'm scared that I will start gaining weight once I get into the next phase. My weight loss is already slowing down. I was losing a pound a day, and the last few days have been point something. Suggestions please. Thanks!

Gaining weight with a new phase?

Never thought of it that way. I don't need to lose quite that much. Thanks for putting it into perspective!

Gaining weight with a new phase?

That you so much for the comments. I've just struggled for so long prior to surgery, that I don't want this to be a failure, once again. I will remember what you said.
  7. Just wondering what kinds of things you all start eating in a typical day in phases 2&3. Do you also start counting calories in these phases?
  8. Still, no one knows I had the surgery. Only about 3 people from work and my family know I had surgery for a hiatal hernia, which I did as well. I only took a week off work and today was my first day back, which has remarkably gone really well. The first person I ran into asked me if I'm slimming down. I told them yes, and it sure isn't easy! She then wanted to know all about the diet Ive been on, which i told her about the shakes and healthy meal each day that I was doing prior to surgery, and will continue with as soon as I am able. Right now people at work just see me drinking my shakes, water and crystal light, just like prior to surgery. People are commenting that I'm really doing good, which is nice to hear! I am trying hard to make this a success!

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Thank you all so much! I am already feeling better! Going out to eat with friends and to the movies (with popcorn) was my social life. So, that's been on hold for the next couple of months, and when I go out I know it will be different, but I'm ready for it! I do feel better, and go back to work tomorrow... Hopefully, will be a good experience! Thanks again y'all!

    Surgical glue?

Mine was 9/11, and the last of mine came off today. I may have helped a little because they were itching like crazy! I also have this ointment my dr gave me to help heal scares that I put on twice a day.
  11. Mine too... drink 30 min before or 30 min after a meal. Is that in stage 2 though? I thought the 30/30 rule was once you start eating regular food again, stage 3 I guess??

Pain when getting up and down

I still have a pulling like sinsation when I get up where my main incision is. I still have to be careful getting up, and I still protect that side a little more. My surgery was also on 9/11. Sometimes just sitting I get twinges (little pains) and a burning feeling sometimes. My Dr. said it's all normal too.

    Relieved knee pain after surgery?

This is such wonderful news!!! My story sounds sooo familiar to yours!! I was told all the same things, had the Effexor injections in both knees without much relief. I was also told at my last visit a year ago that knee replacement is the next option. I don't want to go that route, and can't really afford to miss 6 weeks of work either. So, thank you so much for your positive comments!! This is very reassuring! And CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss!! That is wonderful!!!

    popcorn craving

Me too!! And I love going to the movies and getting even a small popcorn. This is going to be hard. I think I will probably take beef jerky or something to snack on once my stomach allows it.

    Nobody comments on weight loss?

Sometimes it's hard for people to notice when they see you day in and day out. I bet if someone saw you, that you have not seen in like a year would be all over you with compliments! Just know you are doing a great job and keep up the good work!!

    HAIR LOSS

This is a huge fear of mine too!! I'm only a week post op, and immediately started taking my vitamins along with Biotin and Zinc. Are you taking your multivitamin as well as calcium? Maybe add zinc to the biotin. I hope it gets better!!

    8/25/17 sleeve updates

I'm a week out with hernia repair as well. Stomach is only bruised at the main incision. In first or second week did anyone try straining soups to drink? I'm tired of broth already! Shakes are still hard to get in throughout the day. I just bought some Genpro that helps to get in the protein needed. I love popcicles, so have those to help with my fluid intake and made some popcicles out of my shake mixture, so that should help too. Good luck everyone!

    Chest pains

It will get easier. Make sure you do the breathing exercises. That helps. I'm a week out and still have some chest pain, but better each day.
  21. Thank you so much for your story, and Congratulations on your weight loss!!! That is awesome!! I will be visiting family the weekend I start my 3rd phase, so I am a bit concerned about what i can/will eat. And just hope I don't get sick. I know so will have to have shakes while so am there, and drink plenty of fluids, but kinda scared about what to eat. Thanks again for sharing your story! You are doing great!!
