It's interesting. My Dr recommended rny also due to multiple reasons including gerd, but I was also told that if I had it b4 and took meds for it, I would need to continue taking meds. This seems odd, but in discharge papers I was instructed to resume esomeprozole (Nexium). I did get the same info that the rny is better than sleeve for gerd tho.

Feeling Nervous/Anxious--was this a good idea?
Aries331 replied to MrsO72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days post-ok. I foolishly tested by taking tiny bites of food. Why did I do that? I think I'm stronger than my stomach? I am not. Lesson learned. Food is definitely an addiction and studies are coming out left & right proving it is as bad and sometimes worse than drug addiction. We have to eat, we don't have to take drugs/ drink booze/ shop (insert addiction) to survive. I have learned to plan for foods I love and use portion control. Nothing is off limits within reason. At least that's my plan when I'm able. Stick to what's allowed, pass by what's not, and try not to give it another thought. Be proud of the right choice. Your health (and mine b/c I have all the issues & more that you listed) is far more important food. -
FIRST THANKSGIVING SINCE SURGERY....
Aries331 replied to ThickGirl5683's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so mad at myself; and disappointed. 3 days post-surgery and I actually took tiny bites of food. I'm lucky I didn't hurt myself. I don't feel great today, but don't think I did any damaged and will not be testing myself again. The reason I post this confession here is that thickgirl5683 is waiting a year to try a sweet and I couldn't make it 3 days without trying a taste of food. You are inspiring and reminding me what I should be doing. -
I'm in the club!! I'm 2 days post-op from Roux en Y gastric bypass and I feel great, other than the physical pain and being tired; no nausea, no problem getting fluids down.
I'm writing out my meal plan now so I have the next 2 weeks planned.
I do burp and hiccup quite a lot so I need to watch that because it hurts.

Your almost 2 weeks in. How are you feeling? I go in tomorrowm. So excited for life, post-op, not so much.

Good November 20thers. Doing this together.

Best of luck to you. I'm proud of you for taking control of your health. -
I'm glad I asked the question because of the varying answers. I am going to a nationally acclaimed hospital and they even said straws were up to us, but it makes sense that they could cause issues. Only one vomit and I'll probably know. 4 days and counting.

Thanks@catwoman7. Another reason to really change habits while it's easier too. Meal planning is going to be crucial for me.

Binge eating treatment b4 RNYGB
Aries331 replied to Aries331's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Heehee. -
I see many people discuss food relationships in post-sugery forums. While I'm scared, I know I did the right thing by taking a year in a binge eating treatment program to give me the tools & skils to be successful long-term. I will promote this every chance I get. I did not want to go thru surgery only to rebound. My program taught me how to regard food as other than a reward system or addiction. I do still need the surgery to lose the weight & control my diabetes. The program taught me to maintain and follow a plan. We all should have this training before surgery to better influence success. I will share so much more.

Binge eating treatment b4 RNYGB
Aries331 replied to Aries331's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hope they are out there for you, they can't be easy to find. A therapist from my binge eating program went out on her own and is running a weekly group, otherwise all I oul have is the after care program. -
Thanksgiving will be 2 days after leaving hospital, so I'm vegging on the couch and probably sleeping. Thankfully it's a small get together this year.

Pre op Liquid diet SOOOO hard
Aries331 replied to Jayluv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys are inspiring. My surgery is Monday, Nov 20th. The pre-op diet is so hard, which is why diets don't work, right? I'm just hoping that cravings subside post-surgery. While we can't physically eat, those urges are tough. -
Ugh. I'm on my pre-op diet 8 days in with 6 to go and I'm not doing great. I am eating low carb, definitely, but putting in Atkins snacks and I think that's affecting me. I see some of you are doing liquid protein diets, and I'm thinking of switching to that. How do you all feel on those pre-op diets? What obstacles did you face and how did you deal with them? I'm not a large bariatric patient, so I don't foresee complications (hope, hope, hope), but also want to do what's best for my body.
-
@flufflychix Had a 4th class today that told me more about the pre-op diet, what days in hospital will be like, and what the days and weeks following surgery are like. It put at so much ease. I was so anxious. I am so absolutely positive now. Still nervous about the challenges down the road, but working with a therapist on that. So excited to get my health on track. My family all supports me.

2 years post op... Need help/ideas losing more weight
Aries331 replied to Sassy72's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sassy72 I went through an eating disorder program that regulated my eating. With it I was able to losr.weight, even thought that's not what it's meant for. Are you maintaining? If not, I would strongly recommend this program. The one I attended was by ERC Insight. Check them out and they may be able to help. -
