Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
ALFxRNY replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You’re welcome and the anxiety is real! When I was told I had to do 7 months of nutrition on top of a bunch of other appointments it really did seem overwhelming and like I’d probably never finish. The time actually flew by pretty quickly though (I started in November officially). Hang in there, you’ve got this -

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!

I do my final nutrition appointment this coming Thursday! Paper work will be submitted either right after that appointment or on Friday. Expected June date for bypass! -
That’s amazing! Congrats! Next week is the big submit day for me! Best wishes and hope to see you on the surgery side soon!

I haven’t had surgery yet but my friend had got her sleeve done last year. Every experience is different. Some feel fine, some are miserable. My friend wasn’t hungry the first week then started having head hunger for a while (but not long). She’s doing great now 8 months out. Don’t overthink it, best wishes on your surgery. PS, your surgery is on my birthday [emoji846]

In less than 2 weeks I attend my last nutrition class and my paperwork will be submitted! Super excited! I also do my mandatory pre-op class that same day!

I haven’t had surgery yet, my paperwork will be submitted next month but I haven’t really told my family. My mom, 2 close cousins, and an aunt who had surgery knows. And also a friend who was sleeved, a friend who was denied the sleeve, and 2 other friends know. I only told people that I trusted. It’s weird, 3 people in my family have had weight loss surgery, the females are always scrutinized, the male, no one batted an eye about him having it. So to avoid the negativity, I’ve been pretty private. When they ask about the random appointments I have been doing I just tell them I’m trying to make sure my health is in order

When is it appropriate to consider revision?
ALFxRNY replied to Kaze's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven’t been through any surgeries yet, but I suggest calling your insurance to find out what their policy is on revision. Good luck! -

Congrats on submitting! Can’t wait to do the same! My surgeon says it only takes a week for approval (I’m in CT and have Medicaid), so hopefully we’ll both be reporting back with dates! [emoji4]

Completed my psych evaluation today. Nutrition appointment 6 of 7 tomorrow. Just one more appointment next month and then the paperwork is submitted. Time really flew by!

I definitely didn’t get to that point. Thank you

My nutrition appointment is Tuesday and I have gained weight so I’m freaking out. I don’t want this to effect everything I’ve been working for. I told my nutritionist that this always happens and she insisted it was in my head. I had lost about 16lbs and then I was on a stand still for 2 months. Whenever I hit a plateau, my weight just starts coming back, like no matter what I do I gain. I’m so stressed out about this. Does anyone know if this is going to mess up everything I’ve been working towards? I’m right at the end, about to submit paperwork next month. I’m at a loss for what to do

Hopefully my insurance is understanding. Thank you both for your replies. The gain is super upsetting for me

Here in CT the requirements differ from each surgeon even though the Medicaid is husky health across the board. Some people say 6 months nutrition plus all of the other check ups. Mine is 7 months of nutrition and all of the different check ups. I go to my psych evaluation on Monday, my 6th nutrition appointment on Tuesday, and do more blood work/labs Wednesday. Busy week. Check the Medicaid insurance provider for your state online. They usually tell you what they cover. If not, call the number on the back of your card to ask about requirements OR talk to a surgeon who has dealt with your insurance and knows the requirements. Good luck!

I have my psych evaluation and nutrition appointment 6 of 7 next week. My last appointment before submission will be in May! So excited!

I’m not even sexually active but my nutritionist suggested that I get on birth control anyway to try to make sure I regulate my hormones (period is regular but she said as insurance it will stay that way) and also because apparently most people get increased sex drives after surgery and they would prefer you not get pregnant in the first 18 months. I went to the OB/GYN this week and I was going to get an IUD but the doctor told me to opt for the implant instead because I haven’t had kids so the IUD could be painful, try to work its way back out, or poke holes in my cervix (yikes). So I go back in 2 weeks for my implant. Do whatever is going to work best for you. She did say some people gain a little weight with the implant but that being that I am having surgery I shouldn’t have that issue.

Yassssss!!! You go girl! I told you before but you can never hear it too much, you look great! So happy for you!

First consult super nervous.
ALFxRNY replied to linadarling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my consultation October of last year. Like one of the previous posts stated I was weighed, asked my height, and had my blood pressure read. First one of the nurses briefly went over things with me and then the surgeon came in to speak with me. We went over my diet, how active I am, how much weight I’ve lost on my own in the past. He asked what surgery I was looking to do and I told him that originally I was looking at the sleeve but that after doing more research it seems that I should do the bypass. He then told me that bypass was the best option for me because I have a metabolism problem (I don’t have a real appetite and my body hold on to weight) and because I have minor GERD and a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and stroke. He gave me a list of requirements from my insurance, went over the list of places I could go for the requirements that were covered by my insurance, and referral papers for each appointment (the papers were moreover for records, he called in most of my appointments for me). It was a good experience and it may seem overwhelming at times but it honestly goes by kind of quick. I have 2 more nutrition appointments and a psych evaluation to do before we submit to insurance. Best wishes and sorry about this long winded response! -
