What are your purée faves ?
Rainbow_Warrior replied to mzsantiago88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. And the best part was that I just dropped the plastic pouch into my wife's pot/saucepan after she removed her boiled eggs and the residual heat of the near boiling water had it ready in a couple of minutes. Without any clear safety info, I did not want to put a plastic pouch in the microwave oven. -

I am also day nine. Your 20 pound gap is exciting. Well done. Mine is more like 11 ... but that is comparing the prep room scales at the hospital to my (albeit very accurate) electronic bathroom scale. My follow up appointment is two days away ... on Mon 23rd at 9:30. (Here , right now, it's 10:50am daylight saving summer time on Saturday, Oct 21st) -

Can't go past (Aldi) Mamia 10+ months Baby Foods. Highly recommend the Lamb Casserole and Beef Bolognaise with Macaroni. Will mention others after I taste them. Nice pureed food, thick-ish soupy consistency. Few chunks ... could be blended/chopped if you want. -
My October 16 sleevers are you ready??!!
Rainbow_Warrior replied to Drea8989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was October 12 (8 days ago). I have had four days in a row now with one or two 'fat cigarette' stools each day. Everything Friday to Monday was gas or liquid, mostly gas. The typical current 8cm-10cm (three to four inch) stool would represent about 15%-20% of the size of my former one giant stool per day. Hope this was too much information for the squeamish! :-) -

Well, best wishes to you. My seven day post-op driving exclusion ended last night so I'm off to see my two local grandchildren in an hour. You'll probably be prepped and worked upon while I'm on the freeway. Hope it all goes well. -

When you mentioned 'jelly', my eyes double-checked. 95% of the mentions on here are for 'jello'. It was obvious you were from the UK, NZ, RSA or AUS. Then when I read that you mix jelly powder/crystals with milk, I knew Immediately you weren't a South African or an Australian. Only people from New Zealand or the UK could try to make jelly flavours co-exist with dairy. -

Well, I am having my "two-week follow-up" on Mon 23rd ... just 11 days after surgery. Your 57 pounds is about 25.85 kg. I expect, given today that I am about 15.6 to 16kg down (34 to 35 pounds), that I might be 18.5kg to 19.5kg (40.8 pounds to 43 pounds) off by the doctor's appointment. I'll be happy if I am over 17.5 kg (38.6 pounds) off. Anything else is a bonus. Pleased to see the magnitude of your success, happyhappyjoyjoy. -

Or peppermint tea ... preferably LEAF tea in a tea-pot rather than tea-bags of "tea-dust". Good hot-as-you-can-take-it pot-infused leaf tea is great. Tea-bags of peppermint tea are passable but seem less effective. -

Rainbow_Warrior replied to Drea8989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's exactly a week to the moment that my anaesthetic was being set up prior to my operation. (It's 7:50am in eastern Australia on Thursday 19th.) I have had all six days since with intakes of 1785mL to 2250mL (seven to nine standard cups/tumblers) ... made up of water to make soups, protein shakes and mix up cordials as well as tea and bottled water. I'm finding this okay but I suspect I could move a bit higher. I have my first scheduled visit post-op with counsellor (9am), dietitian (9:45am) and surgeon (10:30am) next Monday (23rd Oct) at the weight-loss clinic. I'm sure they'll discuss my diet diary and give ongoing advice. My second scheduled visit was booked yesterday for Monday 6th Nov. -

Disappointed for you! I am not in need of the massive choice of post-op pain meds (basic analgesics and narcotics) that they sent me home with. I am six days post op and enjoying my fourth full day at home. My bowels took a day or two to stabilise to solids or thick liquids; the couple of days of flatulence, wet gas bursts and runny liquids seems to be over. The only med I am taking (other than my hypertension medication) is a reflux drug (esomeprazole) which my surgeon put me on a week before my op. He says I'll PROBABLY need it until about a week or two into solid foods. I was dizzy the afternoon and evening of the op (Thursday) and part of the next day. After several walks around the upper storey of the hospital, they sent me home late Saturday afternoon. I do hope your symptoms decline soon and that you head to normalcy soon. -
Im SOO HUNGRY! How are you making it through?

You don't find them cleansing ... as in the sense of an enema? You are not the first person who's added that the protein shakes are unsatisfactory taste-wise, difficult to take or part of a mundane/boring process BUT I've asked several others over the last five weeks: "What is wrong with something tasteless, difficult or unpalatable when the ultimate goal is so pure?" Your long time wait to have a chance of conquering years of obesity must be worth a little difficulty or a moderately small obstacle (in the scheme of life) to pay for your change. - - - - - It sounds a bit 'first world problem' stuff when so many people seem ill-prepared to make a few days (or a few weeks) sacrifice for the body change they wanted. I grew up in the 1950s and early 1960s when no-one tried to make medicines taste better. To hear the adjectives used on these protein shakes and post-op foods is a little ungracious. - - - - - I've taken the view, "so what, they are not my first choice foods and flavours but they are doing me an ultimate good which I will have for many years to come, i.e. a normal-sized height-weight ratio." It deserves a little thinking about thanking yourself for the WLS choice and going the last step not sounding like an ungrateful misery-guts type person. Just my 10c worth! -

Stay as long as you need to (or as long as your insurance policy or wallet will let you. Don't be in a rush to leave. 99% of people are better served by being in the hospital where all the support is. -

Pretty much my experience 5.5 days ago. They sent me home with a load of narcotics and OTC analgesics and I have not needed any. Just living my fourth full day of protein shakes and fluids post-op. -

Four days for me. Ist day after (9am Thur - 7am Fri) was all water and tiny ice pieces. 2nd day after (Fri 7am - 11pm) was three identical "meals": 110mL unsweetened apple juice, 120mL portion of dutch chocolate protein shake, 120mL of sugar-free Cottees GI lime coola mix-up cordial and 120mL of sugar-free Cottees lemon mix-up. Snack 1 and Snack 3 were both 150mL of cold 2% fat milk with a level teaspoon of decaf instant coffee. Snack 2 was 150mL strained cream of mushroom soup. 3rd day after (Sat 6am -3pm) was almost identical to the previous day. No evening meal and no evening snack as I was sent home before 4pm. It all went down well ... no pain ... good sipping as I was tutored to do. - - - - - My Saturday night/evening was two protein shakes fortified with liquid egg whites. My Sunday was five protein shakes, a pumpkin soup, several peppermint teas, some diet raspberry jelly (jello) and two 250mL serves of unsweetened almond milk. - - - - - It's now Monday 12:25pm. I started today with an egg-white fortified strawberry protein shake. Mid-morning was a blended 'smoothie' of 250mL of unsweetened almond milk with 105g frozen mango and 35g frozen berries. Just now, I had a kids' tropical flavour high-protein yoghurt. -
I'm hiding my surgery from family anyone else ?

Amen to that. I might have to train my brain and its acceptance level. (Now, with a quarter stomach, it might all fall into place.) -
Question regarding psychology appt?
Rainbow_Warrior replied to norahilda82's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I answered this in a similar thread ten minutes ago. It might have been you that asked. It's just to check that you have: (a) a balanced understanding of ramifications of WLS (b) a strong propensity to commit fully (c) the 'right' attitude or range of attitudes (d) readiness in the full sense (e) enough of a support network in your life -
I buy fresh chilled egg whites ... about the same price for 500g (500mL) as for 500g-600g of eggs. They are high protein, low fat and they mix well into smoothies or protein shakes.
