Hanes, oops I thought your surgery was on the 13th too. I will give you an update on how mine went.

    Hey from TX

Hanes66 I started seeing a food therapist and went yesterday when I was an absolute mess. I had to go off hormones before surgery and it is wreaking havoc with my emotions! I work at home and didn't have time for lunch before the appointment etc etc etc. She said the "last supper syndrome" is normal and everybody does it. We talked more abut the future and taking time for myself and discussing my recovery time with my DH because the office is 50' from my bed. I stopped for an excessive amount of ice cream after my appointment and last night unintentionally gave myself a thourough cleansing from both ends. YUK. I think that was a wake up call and I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! I am still not sleeping but going to try and do better with the eating. I will be thinking of you on the 13th (and the 12th as we do our prep and bowel cleansing)

    Hey from TX

hanes66 I am getting banded on the 13th and my emotions are all over the place! I am having second thoughts but am doing it to get healthier and can't disappoint my family who is counting on me. The way I have been eating this past few weeks - the last supper syndrome, I realize I need it-bad! Good luck

clv811 my surgery is also the 13th. We only have to be on South Beach Phase 1 for the week before surgery. I can't believe how fast your journey is. When I finally have surgery it will 7 months and 1 day since I put in my application. Do you think you had enought time to digest everything? I complained about the wait but realize now it has been good. When we first get weighed we have to go on South Beach and lose 5% of our body weight. I was very successful and almost lost too much and would not qualify! I will be thinking of you on the 13th!
  5. I have a question. Has anyone gone from normally being (too) warm all the time to being cold after surgery. I have read of a few examples and am praying it happens to me! Also did anyone have wierd dreams the weeks before? Last night I dreamed I had a stroke on the table and a few weeks ago I dreamed I woke up in my room screaming what did I do getting this thing in me for life! I think I am having a missing my favorite foods crisis. Bandofgold - I don't understand what you mean when you say you will run out of fills. There is no limit. As long as you have the band you can get fills. I just posted a site where a doctor who performs the surgery and is also a patient had a fill after 8 years. I think they are less frequent the further along we get. Czarbaby - thanks for the encourageing words. I am worried about the first week, Pain and not eating wise. Good luck on your second week.
  6. Bandofgold, thanks for the clarification. I thought they were the same thing. Hopefully I will never find out the difference - boy am I a dreamer!
  7. Dee H - what is your last name? What time is your surgery? I will be there on the 6th for my final weigh in. I will see if you are in your room yet. My surgery will be a week after you. Good luck!
  8. Hi, I just stumbled upon a website where a doctor talks about lapband. Only difference is he also has a band-for 8 years. In one of the short videos he talks about how satisfied he is and has no cravings until recently when he bacame very hungry and craved different foods. SO HE GOT A FILL. This is a lifetime process. I think it gets easier and fills are less frequent as you reach you sweet spot but they are always available to help. The site www.thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/video/doctor-video.html

Isn't it funny how we are all so different yet so alike! You have to go off hormones because they put you at risk for blood clots. I did switch from Prozac after almost 20 years, to Cymbalta last year when I couldn't stop crying and it is probably making me a tolerable person these days but the hormones target specific areas. I took all of my pills to the surgeons visit and showed them to him and he said everyone of them should be okay to take as it including Prilosec and Cymbalta capsules.
  10. PB'ing stands for productive burping - I believe it is the same as "throwing up" or sliming. Bandofgold - Your friend lost 107 lbs since June!? Doesn't sound possible, Wow.

Hi again, I was looking for a preop site when I came upon this site. You all seem pretty young so this wouldn't apply to you but I had to stop my hormones for 30 days prior to surgery. I also had a really intense event at work this week that family came up for and are still visiting and I am a mess. I am all weepy sitting here typing. For those younguns - hormones help with mood swings and hot flashes. I read all the past posts in this thread and many of you are just days away. I am two weeks out -tomorrow is my preop, Tuesday I see the food therapist (gotta get my head fixed too) Friday is the PCP for medical clearance and Monday is the final weighin and then the next Monday is S Day. I am a bundle of nerves! I am diabetic on januvia and insulin. When I had to loose the original 5% for qualification I was put on South Beach and did tremendous and my blood sugars were great, in fact a little low so I stopped the insulin. I think I made a mistake and stopped it to soon as I haven't been eating perfect for the last two months and sugars are higher than I want. Now I am having numbing in my feet gets worse everyday and it is also in many parts of my body so my mind it working overtime. I had a dream a week ago that I woke up in the hospital screaming what did I do putting this thing in me for life! I want it, my husband wants it for me. We both want me to be healthier. At our hospital the surgeon started a walking group and a few of us meet on Saturday mornings and walk in a park which is 3 1/2 miles. I enjoy the comraderie. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for listening. I love this site. There are people who understand. Now if I could just get that ticker on..............

My surgery is October 13th in Buffalo NY. It will be 7months and 1 day since I sent in my application. October 13th is Columbus Day so I say I am re discovering myself. What kind of pre op diets does everyone have to be on? I have to be on SB Phase 1 for the week before surgery to shrink my liver.
  13. I am reading Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and one tip is: if food gets stuck sip a little warm water with meat tenderizer disssolved in it.
  14. Hi buckets, I too belive it is 5% of your body weight. But don't loose more and almost be disqualified as I did. We are really close neighbors. If you want to go to the support meeting together or drive to Delaware Park on Saturday mornings to walk let me know. I don't know if I will be at the next support meeting, it is October 15th and my surgery is the 13th. I really hope to go. If you send me a private message via this site I will give you my phone number and personal email.

    Buffalo NY Delaware Park Walkers

    I will be there Saturday.
  16. Akirrastar, here is the exact information on Sisters from Business First: Sisters Hospital ranked in the top 10% among hospitals nationwide for its Bariatric program. They received a 5 star rating. I suspect if you did a search on this site for Dr. Carruna or Sisters Hospital you would find bandsters who were thrilled with his work as we are with our doctors. To put it in perspective - there are bandsters who weren't pleased with Dr. Forbes but there are bandsters who think she walks on water. Might be a quicker option for you.
  17. Sisters Hospital Bariatric Center was just rated very high (I can't remember exactly what but it will probably be in this weekends Business First.) My surgery is October 13 and it will be 7 months and 1 day since I applied.
  18. Hi Buckets62, I to0 live in South Buffalo. Do you know where Harvest House is on Seneca Street? Thats me. Welcome. I just saw Dr. Posner twice while visiting my friend and both times I was impressed with him. Plus he is handsome and has a nice smile. You will be in good hands.
  19. Hey experienced bandsters - what is a good chewable vitamin with iron. I already take iron so I just bought Vital8 gummy multivitamins but I would like to eliminate the seperate iron pill. I take viactiv x2 a day and someone mentioned you are not to take the vitamin and calcium at the same time. Is that right? There is so much to learn. I was surprised to see the 3 chewables contain a total of 55 calories! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am trying to get ready.
  20. China don't beat yourself up. Those of us waiting all have those moments. I bought a dress for a special event this Tuesday that meant I couldn't afford an extra oz of fat and since then I have snacked everyday (and hated myself for it). Those already banded don't need to verbally beat themselves up as their band tells them they did something wrong and the consequences are physical and immediate. Judy is correct, there should be more therapy involved in the program. I just got the magazine Obesity Help and there is an article on this very thing called Head Hunger. Anorexic or Obese everyone has it. We/You are human! Congratulations for getting right back on track.
  21. Judy and BandofGold, you two are scaring me, a future bandster BUT I can't stop eating now so nothing could be worse. If there is anyhting I have learned it is everyone responds differently. I just read that someone couldn't tolertate chicken and I thought if you are not suppossed to eat beef and can't tolerate chicken, what is left???? I am so torn and confused.
  22. LLL yes the meeting is to the left of the coffee shop. the door says do not enter but you go in. They stamp the valet parking ticket but a lot of times they are full at that hour. They are run by different people, social workers, nutritionists, exercise therapist etc. Then it is a free for all LOL!
  23. I just came from the hospital visiting a friend I met on line when we were considering GBS. She is from Olean so to far to come to the support groups. She looked great and she said she felt great. Her doc, Posner, came in while I was there....my he is handsome with a very nice smile and sense of humor. I was impressed. I told her I came to see how I will look in three weeks. I only hope I look and feel as good as her, but truthfully she had only been in her room an hour and the few minutes I was there the pain was starting to creep up. Still no nausea, no ice packs, looked real good. She did not have a catheter. Dr. Posner told her to make sure she told them she could pee before hand and she did. As she is a diabetic I was interested in that also (me too) so it was a very informative visit. A field trip LOL
  24. Who is going to the support group meeting Wednesday night? I look forward to seeing some new faces. I will be there.
