Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

China, you are doing good. Way to go! But drink that protein. You will feel it in parts of your body, ie: your legs, if you don't. If you drink coffee you can put a scoop of vanilla in it and it is pretty good and gives you 20 grams. Don't worry about going on real food. I was eating "real" food during my mushies stage. Not because I was trying to be bad but because I could. I still eat bigger chunks than I should be able too. I better get in the habit of chewing or I will be in trouble when I get my first fill! LOL. My husband is the food police at dinner and points out my food isn't cut up as small as it should be and I am eating pretty fast. Of course he does it lovingly.:tongue2: Keep up the good work! -

Shar, I never did find out. I know I hadn't eaten as properly as I should have before hand, but I have also done that since (eaten the "wrong things"). Will you call me tomorrow about your appointment and our getting together? It doesn't look great out now but tomorrow may be fine weather wise. -

xraigal, I was banded on 10/13 and also had two mornings where I had dry heaves. It has not happened again. It scared me. Oranges are okay but you must peel away the inner white membrane before eating. Congratulations on the weight loss. We walk on Saturday mornings in the mall since it is winter. his Saturday we will be at Eastern Hills Mall at 8am. We would love to have you to join us. -

Hi everyone, well my scale finally moved the right direction. Who knew 2 pounds could be so exciting. BUT this is hard and that is why I am writing. I subscribe to various WLS websites and one is having a conference in NYC that I am seriously considering attending. It is two days, March 20-21 and is held at the airport Marriott so there will be no additional transportation required. If you want to check out the conference the site is https://www.bandedtogether.net/events.php Please note it is https There will be speakers such as surgeons, psychologists, nutritionist etc. The cost will be a struggle for many of you me included but I can't mess this up. I have invested too much already. If you are interested let me know. -

Daniellabee, I had visitors at noon and surgury was 7:30. You are expected to up and walking that day! You will be tired and need sleep, especially if you take any narcotic pain meds but it is nice to have someone close to you there to help you get out of bed to go to the bathroom, etc. Dee, my appointment on the 13th is at 1pm! Perhaps we will see each other. -

Hi everyone, I see a lot of people are having problems with the holidays. Me too. BUT even though we are having problems we should rejoice in the fact that we are not eating as much as we used too and will be able to take the weight back off. It is only a few more weeks! The new year is going to be full of fills. I know I hope to get one at my next appointment on January 13th! -

Val, where do you want to walk? Big Gurl, congratulations!! Hang in there. The journey is just beginning! I am going to be very truthful. Remember the band is a tool, you may still be able to eat. I am struggling terribly with eating too much, at the wrong time, and gaining weight. Hopefully this time I will be able to stop it right away. You wont hit this for awhile. The first 6 weeks, to me, were easy, pain, gas and all. Maybe it will be different if I get a fill. It is a big responsibility. But I know you can, and will, do it! China, you go girl, and don't take any crap from any nurses! Personally I was very glad my husband was there to help me get to the bathroom and fill my ice bag or they would not have gotton done in a timely manner. Good Luck! -

Is anyone walking on Saturday? Where? I am willing to go to Delaware Park or a mall. Appletree does not allow walkers as they are not a mall. I talked to security this morning and he was adamant about no walkers. Let me know. -

I have to disagree on the protein powder -notice I did not say shakes. If you eat as little as they say you may not be able to get enough protein. I was told to still use at least one protein supplement a day. Sometimes it is a bar, sometimes the powder in milk or coffee. I was concerned about hair loss and was on Biotin prior to surgery. I was told I did not need it after surgery as it was in the multi vitamin. Now my hair is thinning! I think I am going back on it again. It could just be the shock to our system of surgery. My hair thinned out on top when I was first diagonosed as a diabetic also. -

China, like Shar said it is normal to be scared and anxious. We all were. Soon it will be a memory. Daniellabee - if your doing everything right and it sounds like you are one day the scale will make a big jump. Who knows why our bodies react the way they do. Is it your period. That can cause havoc. Hang in there. Me, I am beginning to wonder if my scale is broke. It isn't moving!! LOL BTW-I don't think they will cancel surgery if you don't loose the weight. Hey walkers - are we outside on Saturday? I am game. Don't think the weather man has gotten any predictions right so far so I haven't checked. I will be at the park at 8am, again parking by the zoo. Val I have a compliment to share with you on Saturday. -

Does anyone know what sliming really is? The last two mornings I have had dry heaves. All I had in my stomach was coffee so nothing came up but I had a lot of spitting. Nothing was stuck. I hadn't eaten yet. It was accompanied by...well lets just say I was already on the toilet. I will admit I had to much SF pudding and SF cool whip (which I know can cause diaherra) both days prior but I have eaten that prior to banding also. I am going to do my darndest to be perfect today and see if it happens tomorrow also. I don't think, or feel like I did any damage. I hope the H pyloria isn't back! Any thoughts? -

I am one of the lucky ones and lose between 6-8 pounds on Phase 1. In fact a lot of my 18 pound wieght loss is from the pre op diet and then the liquid phase. I don't think they should count that when considering a fill. -

China, unless you have no one to pick up something for you, don't buy a lot. I never used the gas x or hardly any of the soup I bought. I bought Liquid tylenol, vitamins and calcium and thats it. I wasted a lot of juices and soups that I never touched. Oh and don't forget the protein powder! -

China, you probably had the preop by now but it is nothing, just the normal stuff. I would suggest when you go for your pre-op appointment next week at the WLS center to insist they give you the post op diet instructions. I didn't get them until 1 week after surgery so I couldn't get ready for it. Good luck. -

Vicki, you brought up an interesting point - phase 1. I too ate/eat more than I should and I was thinking of how successful I had been on Phase 1 to shed the pounds. But we are eating less that Phase 1 and I suspect nothing that isn't allowed on phase 1 such as no bread, potatoes, pasta etc. so how could it help? If you have any ideas let me know. Think of the positive you are almost half way there! You have lost 61 pounds! And you are my computer hero. I have tried too many times to count to put a ticker on my site and cant and you have all kinds of interesting things on yours. Next time your in South Buffalo you can come to my house and put a ticker on my site!! LOL -

Vicki, no fill, like you said he doesn't do them before a holiday. Congratulations on your amazing weight loss. Mine was respectable but almost half of it was from SB Phase 1. I told her to keep my exam room door open but she said she had to close it. I like to see who might be walking by. I did check in the waiting room to see if anyone was there. My next appointment is January 13th. Happy Thanksgiving -

I just returned from my 6 week visit. Since I already eat everything I didn't get an diet changes. Two things I did hear where no tanning where the incisions are (someone was asking about going to a salon) and dont' focus on the numbers. I go back on January 13th and I asked Dr. H what he would like me to weigh then and he said he doesn't care just as long as I don't over eat and exercise. I lost 18 pounds since my pre op weigh in and my A1c is down from 7.9 pre op to 6 AND I haven't had any diabetes meds since surgery! Even though I confessed to some overeating and mistakes he made me feel he was very proud of me. -

Daniellabee, good luck on the insurance. I just found out my insurance is changing and will cover less and they are cancelling my husbands. Since he is in the middle of a health crisis that could be very bad but thank goodness he is eligible for medicare. The whole health industry seems to be in an upheaval! My insurance approval (Independent Health) only took a few days.
