NJChick - geez ....bless you - it is really hard to do things like clean house and chase children - I used to do daycare (for 12 years) and had to stop - couldn't keep up with them lol....I have arthritis too - had outpatient laproscopy surgery two years ago on right knee - I had torn cartilage (doc doesn't know what from and neither do I) and arthritis just one level below most severe on his chart - he was shocked - and I have tendonitis in the left knee and most likely arthritis - yep - weight loss helps - as does some kind of exercise to combat the arthritis every day -- I usually take celebrex two times a day and an anti-depressant for pain - a side effect which they found helps people like us is that the anti-depressant tells the brain the pain is moved - gone - somewhere else - so it alleviates it - I couldn't survive without these two meds - and when the pain gets too bad I take Ultracet (ultram and tylenol) which works great for me I've herniated and now deteriorated 3 disks in my neck and 3 in my lower back - DDD been going on since I was 13 yrs old - are we having fun yet? lol Ironically - the two medications recommended for fibromyalgia are the two I currently take - so I kill two birds with one stone so to speak
-
I had my gall bladder out many moons ago lol (22 years ago) and I STILL cannot eat a LOT of lettuce - a reasonable amount - but not a huge salad every day - and I can't eat popcorn AND any kind of carbonated beverage (aka diet pop) together (like at the movies) or I feel like I am going to die! I have to be careful of how much roughage I consume - that is the main issue for me
-
Yep NJChick - we are a lot alike--- I tried to just 'walk' at a pool at the hospital fitness center and the nerves in my feet acted up so bad I had to stop -- now I walk on a treadmill for 15-20 minutes (twice a day on good days) and that is it -- if I walk a long time - like hours - shopping, etc I come home and can barely walk at all that night and the next day -- it is a very different world for those of us who have DDD, bone spurs and arthritis (yes I have all of these and sciatica plus fibromyalgia)...it is a challenge but I hang in there - some days are better than others....what medications do you take, if I might ask ?
-
Well Telly - you are the resident "Ass Kicker" so bending those legs to kick your own butt isn't so hard lol --- you have to just look at the past success and the future possibilities - every week is different - don't I know Yep - I'm working out as much as my body lets me right now - not phenomenal but I've added 5 minutes and raised the speed...
-
lianna - just throw your body in the middle of the loop! works every time - eh gals?! lol P'Nut - woo hoo on the 22 minute mile - great job -- I'm working my way there - still taking me 26 but hoping to speed it up by August! Great job girl! Good to see you again P'Nut.... Telly - I was 'just' thinking about you - and your great weight loss - and how it seems that for EVERYONE - each large weight loss seems to take another layer off of our body and emotions erupt - sounds like that is what you are going through -- smile - hold your head high with your family and portray that confidence we all see that you have every day! It will be the long-term weight maintenance your family will notice years down the road - don't fret over 'now' girl!
-
Hang in there Telly - you have done so well in such a short time -- you know 'why' you are so hungry -- focus on that fill and hold on a little longer.....your family will think you are awesome - heck - look at that picture of your flexed muscles - how could you not wow them?! Funny -- so glad to hear you are healing so quickly! It sounds like you are moving right along....unbelievable how fast time goes - you 'just' got banded and look at you!
-
Actually - was it pork or beef Telly? lol -- a pig or a cow (tee hee)....either way it is ALL protein
-
I say forget talking to the family -- they don't get it - proof? How they treated you growing up (Dad, that is) -- just continue to encourage your daughter to exercise and remind her that YOU eat too -- just talk about 'healthy' choices -- I did that with my now 8 year old son and he knows the difference between healthy and unhealthy -- tell her that grandmas and grandpas are just silly sometimes and laugh and go on with exercising together!!! Just my thoughts on the matter -- people don't change and if you say something it will just get worse before it gets better - that's been my experience.
-
Thanks Funny - for explaining - I hadn't heard that before (or read it) that I knew of -- always gathering info - that's me lol
-
Hey Funny - I saw that you had a fill at the time of surgery? Is that something a lot of doctors do? was just curious...
-
I have had degenerative disk disease (deteriorating disks) since I was 13 years old - when it all started.....now I have also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia......are we having fun yet? lol My pain level is at a 4 (of 10) on any given day and goes up to a 20! on really bad days --- I am able to walk for 15 minutes on a treadmill at 2.2 speed (slow but not crawling) and some days I can do up to 30 minutes. I try to walk 15 min twice a day rather than once for the entire 30 as I lose weight better walking 'between' meals. Is anyone up for a disabled challenge? Meaning - I have done challenges for two months in the Gone for Good thread -- but would love to see us challenge ourselves and one another....how about it? Any suggestions as to what the challenge would be? for all of us who find exercise painful but beneficial? Excited to hear from you all!
-
Glad to see you back Funny and Sherry, and congrats on YOUR surgery too Ericsmom -- I saw that - you were banded too! And welcome to the club! There will be lots of weight loss this next month!
-
Congrats Sherry! It's awesome you three girls got to do this together....so sorry to hear about the computer screen - my son says probably $7-800 to replace it.........shoot that monster!
-
Congratulations! Amazing - your before/after pics on the link - the ones of just your face - you truly look like two different people -- how awesome to be at goal weight!!! Thank you for sharing and allowing us 'strangers' to watch you succeed!
-
Texas Princess -- wow - a movie?! it should be interesting --- but I wonder if it is going to be too much like "Ghost"....we shall see - thanks for the head up
-
After much side-aching laughter---you are all as crazy as ever!!! I will post -- and yes Telly - drink your water and NO FILL yet! You work out like an animal! C 263, Total -15.5, this week 0 (the same once again) Can someone explain the yo-yo syndrome? I am not banded LOL -- so what is up with this? I think it is called SUMMER - we sweat, we eat, we drink, we don't eat, then we are hungry, then we sweat again.....
-
Interesting - so hogging out on chocolate (or other favorite foods) is just that? --- to put it in a nutshell - that's what I understood -- so glad to know I don't have to blame my past behavior for it lol -- and if I don't blame past behavior then I can be reasonably sure it won't happen again - or at least it has nothing to do with my own self-esteem or self-worth (grin)
-
LOL P'nut! I see you hiding under that table..............
-
Hooray! Congrats to BOTH of you on getting banded - so thrilled to hear all went well and you are up and walking!!! Photonut LIVES!!!
-
Texas Princess -- OMG The Time Traveler's Wife is my FAVORITE of all time -- I read it a year or so ago....the only thing that upsets me is that this author hasn't written anything else!!! (yet)
-
P'Nut - stop drinking alcohol - it has EMPTY CALORIES!!!!!!! lol and get back on here please -- you are missed terribly - silence is NOT golden :cry
-
I'm reading "Secret Lives" by Diane Chamberlain -- I read her most recent book - and fell in love with her writing style and unique storyline....so she's my 'author for the summer' til school starts up again. I love to read and can't read anything for enjoyment when I have to read for classes -- check her out. She has a LOT of books so if you like her there are plenty to read!
-
Lianna - it IS good to vent - lol - then change our ways tee hee.....I sometimes suffer from the 'I'm bored syndrome' too - at night - so I tend to keep busy and stay out of the kitchen - it works best that way for me - hang in there - as you said - you know what you need to do -- the good thing is we get to start each day fresh!
-
Welcome to the club Jan! We have tons of support here -- and laughs and encouragement - you are at the right place! Some months we do a challenge - we took this month off - but we do Wednesday weigh-ins, FunnyDuddies is running the thread this month but she is off getting banded on the 10th and will return soon.........
-
Jodi - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is obviously the culprit of all of your symptoms....my daughter has it (diagnosed when she was 17) and I have fibromyalgia which is a lot like CFS.....you'll learn that it flares up at times and at other times you forget you have it -- like now -- best of luck and keep in touch with a doctor on a regular basis for your CFS.
