August Sleevers-How are you doing??
trying4me replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Contact your Dr. Also are you close to menstruation? Most of us gain water weight during this time. I too am weighing daily but I am really looking at weekly gain/loss. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Anyone dealing with some pre-surgery depression?
trying4me replied to celticNgel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Do you have a history of depression? I struggled with some regret/worry. (Wish I did this sooner. Wish I was genetically thin like others. Worried about failure.) If you are truly depressed talk to your doctor ASAP. You will heal better if you are controlled first. Also are you on the milk diet yet? I struggled with that and fought with my hubs in a major way. Lots of "feelings" during that. Take your vitamins, B and D can cause symptoms. I am 2 weeks out and doing well and feeling good. Totally worth it. weed smoker about to get bypass

The nicotine in your Vape will impair healing too. Ask for help from your doc if needed. Chantix worked for me, but can be hard to tolerate. Be strong. You can do this! Good luck. It's life changing. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
weed smoker about to get bypass
trying4me replied to jchilion2589's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Smokers of any kind. The smoke damages your lungs, lung capacity and oxygen exchange putting you at risk for impaired wound healing, pneumonia, infection and sepsis. Yes this applies to nicotine AND marijuana AND vaping. Do yourself a favor and quit. Yes I know it's hard, yes I used to smoke. Edibles? Ehhhh dealers choice. Just make sure you can stay on program. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Has anyone's surgeon given them a calorie goal? I can hit 500-600. Is that too much? I am still on a full liquid diet and really enjoy the tomato soup. I usually have 2 cups throughout the day and 1 premier protein shake. I get to 45 carbs a day. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am at about 600 calories still on full liquid at 9 days out. I am down 13lbs. Your loss is amazing. How many calories are you at now? I too am interested in this question. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Stick to your guns and advocate for yourself. I also use liquid Tylenol, just don't use more than 4000mg in 24hrs. And I found ice was better than heat, heat made me ache more. Good luck and let us know how it went. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

What Pain Meds did you get while in hospital/surgery center
trying4me replied to Aginn10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It expensive long term but in the grand scheme of things it's not bad. 12$ a dose is what it was a few years ago. I checked into it when I worked ICU. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
What are you drinking? For me the tomato soup increases my calories and carbs but it is on my list. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you so much for this. I follow the diet and get my target protein, but the bariatric app I use to log also counts calories and I was afraid I was taking in too many. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Nausea and vitamins

Thank you guys for the tips. Do either of you use an official bariatric brand? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am 7 days post op and still have pretty significant pain in my shoulders from the gas they use to inflate the abdomen. I had a sleeve, hiatal hernia repair and adhesion lysis from gallbladder removal. Anyone else still suffering? HW: 317 SW:295.4 CW:282.2 GW:150 Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

What Pain Meds did you get while in hospital/surgery center
trying4me replied to Aginn10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for mentioning this! IV Tylenol was amazing!! Everyone should ask for this as part of their pain management. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Should I be concerned? Incisions...
trying4me replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Gauze is ok. Moisture is controversial and I would stick to your surgeon's recommendation, keeping things moist and covered with things like tagederm are not recommended, this is the perfect environment for infection as no air is moving through. Clean and dry using gauze (which allows airflow) secured with tape is ideal. If it doesn't improve in 2 weeks make an appointment. And as previously stated get your protein and water goals met to improve healing. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
What Pain Meds did you get while in hospital/surgery center
trying4me replied to Aginn10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Usually it's liquid oxycodone but I tend to vomit that up so they gave me Dilaudid, I did call on day 4 and ask for Hydrocodone as it was too strong and made me loopy. I am just surprised it's an outpatient surgery. I stayed 2 nights in the hospital. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am so sorry this is your experience. Keep taking someone with you to your appts. Write out your concerns and questions before you go in, if he isn't listening, hand him the paper. Also ask if you can see a PA next time instead. I am 7 days out and still hurt pretty bad, I just had my appt and was told to keep taking my pain meds and expect relief in the next 1-2 weeks. I also use large gel ice packs to my abdomen every 20 mins. I brace the site when I move and prop a small pillow under it if I sleep on my side. You might call and ask if you could get/wear an abdominal binder. If the pain is too unbearable, go to ER. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

If you have emotional ties to eating you should consider counseling to help support you on this journey. That being said, I had mine 8/31 and have felt deprived at all yet, probably because I battled more pain than expected. I don't know if you started on clear liquid or full liquids but I started on full liquids and tomato soup made with milk has been awesome when I feel hungry. I try and sip protein shakes throughout the morning and evening, drinking 1/2 a premiere shake at a time. Also smooth light yogurt is helpful, but I can eat more than I think I should (1/2 a container). Hang in there, things will normalize for us and the weight loss and health will be worth it. Definitely valid points. I'm not sure why my facility isn't concerned about any of that. The R Ts don't need special training to run them because most function the same way. They did stress the cpap must be clean and in good working order. I bet they send it home if not. I don't get the mask thing, unless they provide a similar mask. I would hate to wear a full face mask especially after surgery with increased risk of air in the gut. Anyway, I would just follow the hospital policy. At least it's one less thing to haul in at your facility. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey lovedrotten! So glad things are going well at home. Last night I chased pain but today I feel better. I think I tried to tapper off narcs too soon. I am hitting my water and protein goals. What is your caloric goal? I don't have one set. But I am under 500kcal. I did some like housework and laundry too! Felt good to move more. I am in Washington state about 30 miles from the Eagle Creek fires and our air quality is awful, so all my walking has been inside. Bummer! Do you have a divette in one of your incisions that hurts the most? Keep working on that water. I am cheering for you. Oh and if you like tomato soup, a half cup is very satisfying right now. @janet610 have you guys tried flavoring your water with lemon or even the kool-aid squeeze bottles? This might help. I know I love water but only drink distilled so I took my own gallon to the hospilal and put it over cups of ice in a coffee cup with a lid so I could pour it into my medicine cups. This all helped. It can be a cost measure, and RT and my facility comes and checks them out on the first night only. Also patients are more compliant with their own equipment. I know I would be. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
