I'm 6 months out, had the sleeve, lost 47 lbs. Just had a new round of blood draw and i'm high on cholesterol. I'm not eating ANYTHING with cholesterol in it and it's 270. I know my PCP will want to put me back on meds for it and i'm dreading it. I'm sooooo sick of taking pills. I exercise almost every day. working with a personal trainer. what else can I do? I eat mostly chicken and turkey, and veggies. Feeling really down about this. All other lab #'s are good or really close to good.

I'm 5 months out and lost a little bit of hair. it's already showing signs of growing back. It's a bit thin, but it always was anyways. I have found that it was getting very dry, straw-like. So I gave it a baby oil treatment and wow, what a difference. really let it soak in right to my scalp. then washed it out. I guess in the big scheme of things, it's not that big of a deal - my goal was weight loss. and i'm making it.

On the Subject of New Clothes....
laurileet replied to bettie.blue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I enjoy shopping in-store now. At first it was weird, because my brain was trained to go to the 2XL section and i'd go there and find out.. oh.. these are too big. Then the 1XL section, then the Large section.. wohoo!!! almost to the Medium section!!!!! I still hold something up and think: I will NEVER Get into this.. Then it try it on and I think... You GO girlfriend! Try to enjoy the journey! -
Your go to soft food phase recipe
laurileet replied to CKWindsor's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I made myself a lot of home made soup and tossed soft stuff in there. Chicken broth + some egg, some tiny chicken bits, ham bits, potato, etc. Also some cooked pumpkin.. that was a nice change of pace. -
My most 'dramatic' moment was 2 days after surgery, when I was headed home. It was so exciting to know that I DID IT!!! My new journey was beginning. There I was sitting curbside in front of the hospital waiting for my car to come around and pick me up... and bang. I get a glimpse of myself in the glass windows right next to me. I had THE WORST bed-head, greasy, stringy, looking hair on planet earth. I had NO idea. I thought I looked like some kind of alien from an Arnold movie. LOL First thing when I got home was take a shower, brush my teeth, and then slept for 3 hours. Then showered again!

Which phone apps do you use to remind you to take your vitamins??
laurileet replied to cdriver422's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried MyFitnessPal, but the darn thing just wont work. i'd love to find an app (that works on my kindle fire) that would help me track my diet AND exercise. maybe I need to make my own because what's out there stinks. -

Restriction - Do you still feel it? Will it always be there?
laurileet replied to Letgo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
once in a while I feel like I've over eaten. so I am eating smaller amounts. I can always eat more if I need to , but if I've over done it, I cant undo it. thankfully I haven't had any dumping issues, but at times pain. -
Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?
laurileet replied to AllyJonesVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i'm not losing as fast as i'd like, so I think i'm going to pull back on my diet a bit. other than that I feel good. -
Afraid that I'm going to let fear of pain prevent me from going through with surgery
laurileet replied to Oct517's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve in may - had NO pain. small discomfort when I got home and I bumped my stomach into the sink/vanity, but not enough to even make me want a Tylenol. I expected pain too .. but nothing. laying down in bed after I got home.. no big deal. was taking walks outside the 2nd day home. felt great. -
I'm actually getting tired of shakes. Going to use up the few I have now and then stop them for a while.

I too enjoy some diet coke now n than, BUT, when I order it at a restaurant, or where someone else is getting it for me, I impress upon them that IT'S DIET. RIGHT ?????? if they hesitate, I send it back. I'm a diabetic and have had experiences of dangerously high blood sugar because the server didn't think it important to give me diet.

first I use a smaller plate. It is a learning curve to eat not only less, but to stop when you need to stop. it takes practice. I also set aside food just for me, in portions that work for me. it makes it easier. If the portion is too small and you need more, that's an easy fix. Easier than finding out you ate too much, too late. Take your time and you'll learn what works.

Any shorties out there under 200lbs
laurileet replied to Marilync1266's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i'm 5'0" my highest weight before sleeve was 200lbs. since May 29th I've lost 20 lbs. so i'm down a total of 40. hoping to lose at least another 40 over the next 8-12 months. At first I was loosing a lb a week, now down to 1 lb every 2 weeks. The slow down is a bummer, but i'm still pleased to be losing and not gaining. AND exercising gets easier with each lb lost. I love that! -

How long did someone help you at home after surgery?
laurileet replied to MK686's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
after a few days I was able to cook again for my family. but other things like house cleaning, laundry etc, I took it easy. Especially laundry - leaning into the washing machine was a no no. lifting the vaccum, nope. took around amonth for that stuff. -
Gym post-surgery - how long did you wait?
laurileet replied to AEdoesRnY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your bariatric team. I was allowed to take walks for the first 6 weeks.. had to wait until they gave me the OK to go back to the gym. -
Are the Flintstones vitamins what your doctor recommended?

I feel scared and ashamed...
laurileet replied to sariejack's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I sincerely hope you can change to being proud of yourself for doing something that will change your life for the better, for the rest of your life. I can share with you that during my surgery, they had me hooked up to absolutely everything to keep me monitored for safety. Talk to your surgeon about this, i'm sure he/she can put your mind at ease. Once it's done, you'll be so happy you'll wonder what all of the fuss was about -
Wondering about calories
laurileet replied to NewLife125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you're following the post op guidelines, then you'll be fine. I had to read mine several times to remember it all. Careful with work outs - don't do too much too soon. make sure you're cleared for vigorous activity. -
Drinking liquids= fulltime job
laurileet replied to EsoKev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the same boat in the beginning but it does get easier. now I don't even think about it and i'm able to get it in. I KNOW when I have slipped because I get light headed fast. learn your body's way of telling you what's going on. you can do it! -
First - my phone doesn't do 'apps'. That said, how do you all keep track of your daily protein intake? I've tried an excel spreadsheet, note pad, etc.

I had the sleeve and am still amazed at how non-painful it was. people keep asking me how I feel and my reply is "I feel great!" a 10 all the way.
