Hey Kylie, we you might have read the fill didn't go to plan and I now have to have it done with the assistance of X-ray! Although other than hunger I'm not sure the fill will make a huge ammount of difference, because NOTHING more solid than baked Beans and tuna is making it through this baby at the moment ... but I'll email you from work re coffee, maybe next week? Friday? I'll call or email you.

Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!
batkitty replied to batkitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lita, congrats on the op, good times ahead. walking walking walking ... hot tea is nice, I drank black tea either normal or green most if the first week, provided some relief. a bit of bending and stretching worked well, gentley gently. and read through the pages here, helped me immensly -
well today I was to have my first fill and well ... I too walked out dissapointed and disgusted!!!! we had some dificulty finding the port, didn't bother me, we agreed on me getting my first fill in consultation with an x-ray, but what concerned me was the full syringe of gunk that he extracted from a haematoma between my port and abdomen wall. Rest for 10 days, x-ray, fill, then catch up with him in a few weeks. hungry too ... going to intoroduce something a bit more than mush, but I could do without eating any more potato if anyone has any ideas!

WOW I am definitley going to get some pictures together .. you LOOK awesome do not feel down girl, I can't wait to see you in another month :tt2: -
I'm finally due to have my first fill tomorrow, and it can't come soon enough!!! The past 2 days I have been able to eat more than I have in weeks since the surgery. Whilst not as much as I would have before banding, but more than I feel comfortable with. I'm interested in hearing anything else on slippage and how it happens, and maybe what we can do to stop it from happening.

I think we could be triplets! Starting weight 132, current 126 post op 10 days. been trying to have kids for over 18 months, think the weight is the main obstacle (although I too don't really have a stong maternal gene). and I also have a great guy who loves me fat or thin, just wants me happy (because as you know if we are not happy they are not happy) Cazz good luck with the surgery! just take it slow. keep us posted of your progress

Luscious, I had cup a soup, chicken noodle and strained out the noodles, I couldn't keep the Optifast down so this really helped. Any yoghurt was great .. hot tea remember, take it all slow.

Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!
batkitty replied to batkitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
CONGRATULATIONS on the banding!!!!!! woohoo!! the bloating reduces ... walk until you drop and hot tea, if you can bear it, bending over to relax any cramps is good. I must admit I had very bad wind, but I am now 12 days post op and other than the wounds that I can still, feel I'm 100%!! I have my first dieticians appointment Friday and with my surgeon on the 24th, can't wait for my first fill as this is starting to feel a little normal. my next hurdle will be excercise, looking forward to getting on my treadmill!. keep us posted Luscious, these are the first days of the rest of our lives!! -
Emma, tell me more about the MUSHIES .... every gory detail :huh2: food porn
-
Fanny, thanks for this, this is exactly what I was looking for, some real life advise from banders as to what they have been able to substitiute and re introduce into their diets. good luck on your weight loss. god what I'd give to chew something!!! day 6 of liquids is killing me, 8 days to MUSHIES! My teeth and jaw will wonder whats hit them.

Newbie from Melbourne - Introduction
batkitty replied to MelbMama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcome Jonanne!, And good luck for next week, who is your surgeon just out of interest, I was banded at the Avenue last friday and to date all is 110% if you need anything just holla! -
Congrats Mojo! I'm 5 days post and it get's better. just rest up, take your meds when you need them. as horrible as it is, try taking the panadine in 2-3 mouthfuls so as not to initiaite nausea. and as for the wind, I found HOT tea and walking the best. If the pillow is too much for you to lay on your side, you can progress to s filed hotwater bottle (just use tap water) but I found it is just big enough to rest a belly on  How do you go with the porridge? do you make it really runny/thin? where are you located? if you need anything I'll be off for the rest of the week, if you need anything don't hesitate to msg me.

Hey Jess, I was banded last Friday, I'm day 6 post op. now while I can't say that the past few days have been a holiday, because they haven't, but you find yourself sleeping alot, learning more about your body and what drives your hunger and digestion, it's all learning. when are you getting banded?
-
like many others I'm still not 100% clear on what dumping is, also what does RNY mean? but what I can say is that over the past two days ANYTHING that hits my stomach within mins turns to an excrutiaiting abdominal pain, closely followed by a vistit to the loo. This can be triggered by anything from broth, tomato Soup (homemade), even my soluable meds have this effect. I'm heading off to the surgeon in the morning for something else, so I'm going to ask him what his thoughts are (from my perspective)

The same message is resounding through this entire thread, some people just can't bare to see others succeeding. And because of that we feel we can't tell people what we have done or what we are thinking of doing. I have told my partner and 4 really close girlfriends. NO one at work, NO family. The fact that we can't trust is really dissapointing. Easy way out my ass! this is one of the most dificult, painful and permemnantly restrictive (pardon the pun) thing I have ever done! this is so not easy.

Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!
batkitty replied to batkitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'd say it's wind girl, I know what you mean about dying for a burp! Sometimes it just sits there, stuck. I have walked and walked and walked .. or bent over my bed .. anything to get respite, the peppermint tea works well also, hot teas in general have helped me. good work on the 13kg though!!! hopefully I won't be far behind you. -
Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!
batkitty replied to batkitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
so you were on 100% liquids for the enitre 14 days post op? it's just that I'm day 4 post op and could really kill a bowl of scrambled eggs -
thanks for the advice, I'll check out the recipies section. I'm personally reluctant to eat prepackaged processed foods such as turkey sausages and rissoles, so maybe the recipe site will give me some good ideas. I'm hoping not to have to always have to prepapre a separate dish for me, but also not looking to prepare easily digesatble food for my friends coinsistantly. cheers!

Some initial statistics; age 42 been overweight for 30 years on and off weight pre op 132.7 goal weight 80 or less Reasons for op - health and opportunity to have a successful IVF program Operated on at The Avenue, Melbourne It's officially day 4 post op, and it's a good idea that I start writing now, as the first few days now have some perspective. Day of the op was pretty standard I think, into the hospital, chatted with anaesthesiologist and the surgery assistants, the only thing I would like to say is that the length of time without fluid did kick in a headache prior to op, so going under was a little more stressful, although I was having a laugh with the theatre nurses about a wedding I had been to a week or so before, next thing you knew I was being woken up in post. They ask you how much it is hurting, and to be honest, I couldn't really tell, I just made up 3 numbers between 1-10. I can remember it vividly, I said 4 first, 7 next then 3 once I hit 3 they shipped me off to my room. All plumbing in place, drips and saline etc I dozed on and off for a good 12 hours, slowly eating crushed ice which was great for my thirst. The night was relatively pain free given the Panadine and Morphine, if they give you a choice always go for the IV or injection pain relief, trying to keep dissolved pain relief down is impossible. So Tip #1 always go for the IV or injected pain relief. Ok well the next morning wasn’t as pain free and the internal wind was uncomfortable Anyway I mentioned to the surgeon that I felt ok and within 2 hours was being shipped off home, a little too early for me, post the x-ray to check the band was in the right place and doing the right thing, that stuff was just like nasty cough elixir I was on my way home!! Arrived home and went straight to bed ... Let the games begin! Tips #2 - #7 #2 - Lots of pillows #3 - A eager helper to assist with lifting #4 - Hot tea #5 - Clear broth #6 – Walk #7 – use this website, if for no other reason than companionship and distraction The above tips worked for me, other banders will have more, take what you need and add what you have found. I can’t distinguish between hunger pain and post op pain at the moment, the thicker soups we prepared in advance taste great but I’m having a hard time keeping them down, so I’m on the cup-a-soup and hot tea. I read in an old post that people said hot tea relieved tightness in the band, and I would have to agree 100% here, the relief from hot tea is wonderful. I'm looking forward to posting some progress pictures and some weight loss numbers. So on with day 4, more walking and some hot tea, maybe even a photo or two! looking forward to reading more and sharing even more with you all.

Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!
batkitty replied to batkitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
luscious, getting some tea stocked up will be a good idea. The Protein shake sounds good too, but for me personally I can't stomach anything thicker than tea or broth, a protein shake wouldn't make it past first base. good luck next week, where are you having it done? -
Day 2 post op - and oh the bloating!
batkitty replied to batkitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks for the advise, tea is certainly helping as is moving, I can see you were recently banded, how are you coping now, have you gone back to work yet? and what are you eating ... these vegi Soups are not very successful, so I'm on the not so nutritious cup-a-soup at the moment. -
great post!! after having spent years being overwirght, diets, pills and MONEY!!! money on special diets, money for special travel arrangements, tears, missing out on having a social life, so MANY missed opportunities. I finally decided on Lapbanding, I'm 2 days post op and I'm telling you this pain is not the easy way out, I haven't taken a short cut, this is going to be more difficult than any fad diet. I'd like to know what magazine this was and write them a letter.

Hey CCW, I am day 2 post op and would desparately like to talk to other banders in Melbourne. I live in the inner west, about 7k from the city, not sure if anyone else is around the Yarraville/Footscray area. I had Dr Crosthwaite at The Avenue. And as you can see by the time of this post, I am not coping with the pain and discomfort as well as I would like to. I'm just concerned none of it is normal .. looking forward to talking to some locals. regards Batkitty
