  1. HI, I was banded in June of 08. I did really great and lost 100 lbs. In Nov of 11 I had a fill but a few days later I was hit with a bug and had to go to the hospital due to being dehydrated. I was seen by 2 interns who insisted I had to have my fill taken out. I kept saying it didn't have to be done, if they felt they had to take some out, just take what the fill amount I just had. but they didn't listen and emptied my band. Since then I have gained 30 lbs I'm stuck at the weight I am now, haven't lost or gained anything. Has this happened to anyone else? Help what can I do to get back to my goal weight... Kim
  2. I have had fills, I go every 6 weeks. I am at the point I can't have anymore fills, I can't keep anything down if I'm filled more then 7. I never expected to not loose anything once I was at max.
  3. wow, my dr has me on clear liquids for a week, 1 week of full liquids, 2 weeks of pureed 2 weeks of soft foods then start reg food. How often are you being able to eat regular food like that?

    ?s in first week

congrats on being banded. I was banded on 6/17, I'm not hungry all the time, but I can't wait til I can start chewing food again. I know everyone has a diffrent menu to follow, mine is a week of clear liquids, a week of full liquids, 2 weeks of puree'd food ( or as the dietician said just buy baby food). then 2 weeks of soft foods then on the 7th week I can start reg food. So I wouldn't beable to skip to soft foods. If I were to do anything it would be pureed.

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

Hi everyone, I went to the surgeon on 5/12 he wouldn't set a date because my thyroid levels were too high. It was very disappointing. Went back to see him on 5/30 after increasing my dose my levels came down which he was amazed they came down so fast so I'm having surgery 6/17. For those of you who have had it done already, which protein drinks did you get? I don't have to pre diet so I have to go shopping this week.

    Lap band surgery in RI

Karategirl. When I went to my appt the other day I asked if medicare covered the surgery. They said you would have to call and speak to the person who handles ins. It would have to be approved first.

    Hi I'm New!

Nikko, Hi, I am being banded by Dr Roye on June 17th. You will love him. You won't meet him on the first appt. You will meet with his np Kathleen. She goes over everything with you. They won't do anything, and I mean anything, no appt will be set with specialists until they have authorization from your insurance, so you might want to call your ins to make sure they cover it. Then they will send you info on which appts you will need a few will be set for you. when all the pre testing is done, then you set up an appt and meet Dr Roye. What I found very helpful, was I went to the seminar put on by Dr Pohle at Roger Williams Hosp. it is held 1x a month but he goes over everything, at the end you can ask any questions you want. there were very little questions because he covered everyything. Orginally I was going to go with Dr Phole, but I don't like Roger Williams. Sorry this is long. If you have any questions please feel free to email me or pm me.
  8. kerryconner, my surgery is being done by Dr Roye at RI Hospital in providence. How long of a process is it when you go to mexico to have the surgery? I am excited but scared at the same time. I waited so long so to actually have the date is scarey.
  9. I finally got a date. June 17th.

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

Thank you bandfan1 for the encourament. I go to the surgeon today and hopefully get a date. Glad to hear you have minimal discomfort. I am hoping I don't have to go back to work so soon. So far the surgeon said 6-8 wks out. I don't want to go back until I have a fill and see how I handle it. If I get sick, my employer wouldn't be too understanding.
  11. I think that image is burned into my memory. Thank you.

    sad

I am so sorry your going thru this. I can understand tho, my parents both told me the same thing when I told them about the surgery. My dh is behind me, I thought all my sisters were, but recently found out only 1 is. I can understand my parents, theres is fear. do you think your support person is feeling the same way? They are in fear of what will happen during surgery, or after you loose weight?

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

After reading your posts about the surgery getting moved up, I had a slight panic attack. As much as I want the surgery, and all the reading, preping and waiting, now that I am close to getting a date, I'm nervous. Look forward to reading about your surgery and how well your doing. Kim

    Lap band surgery in RI

I am so glad I found you guys. The Dr Phol in Johnston is the same one in Prov. I attended his seminar last aug. I found it very informative, even if you don't use him, the 3 hrs I was there I learned alot. He does go over both gastric and lap band surgerys so you can choose which is right for you. I decided to go with Dr. Roye also. I wanted to use Dr David Harrington who is in the same group but he only does gastric. I was not to happy with Dr Royes np I found her a little rude, and she didn't put through my paperwork as quickly as she could have. ( she forgot). But I have heard nothing but great things about Dr Roye. I do have 2 friends that have had gastric by him and they loved him. I had my intital appt with her in Nov. I asked what appts I needed to have and if I could schedule any of them myself, she said no, they needed to schedule them. I had to call a few times before they sent me the info for appts in Jan. and they only scheduled 2 appts, I had to schedule the rest. I was not happy, I could of had everything done sooner. I do have my appt with Dr. Roye scheduled for May 12th. I'm nervous now that I am so close. How long after your appt with Dr Roye did you have your surgery? Did he put you on a pre op diet? How long were you out of work? Kim

    Carbonation and gum....

When I went for my consultation with my Dr. he forbid gum chewing, he said if I swallowed it, it would have to be surgically removed. As far as soda, they said caffeine free. but not for months after surgery and by then they hope our "addiction" to soda is gone.
  17. Thank you. My sister in laws sister had gastric bypass and she always said she had nasty burps and can't stop them, but she wouldn't explain. How do you avoid this?
  18. I was reading your post and thought oh god I don't want to ever go thru that. I am waiting to be scheduled for my surgery and had never heard the expressions wrote. Sorry if I sound a little off, but what exactly is stuck/pb/slime?
  19. Hi, My husband found this site for me and I have been reading like crazy. Thank you all for posting your progress so those of us waiting can know what to epect. I'm 42 and have had it with losing and then gaining what I lost plus some. My family is split on me having the surgery. My parents forbid me...lol (I'm a married mother of 4 and my parents forbid me gotta love it) But when it comes down to it they will support my decision. Weight has been such a huge part of my life and my whole family. A few weeks ago I was with all my sisters and we talking about the surgery, then they started talking about how much they lost, what they do to loose weight, then it dawned on me, everytime we are all together, it eventually gets around to our weights. We have all lost only to regain. I'm tired of it. I"m tire of loosing weight only to gain it back. Dr. cannot get my thyroid under control so thats just another thing against me. So I started my process last aug. I researched the best surgeons in my area. I went to ones seminar and had a consult with the other. They were both highly recommended but I went with the one who is affliated with RI hosp. the other hospital just skeeves me out, it is so old. I have had all my testing. My pshyc didn't go as I had hoped but he will be signing off on surgery 4/3. How long after you had all your testing were you scheduled for surgery? Sorry for the long post, thank you for all your information I"ve enjoyed reading everything so I know what to expect. Kim
  20. Thank you for the replies. I am hoping my surgery will be at least by the end of the month or very beginning of may. I passed my sleep study which everyone thought for sure I was going to fail. My nutrition appointment was the very first appt I had, so I think I'm going to make another appt just for a review before luckily my ins will pay for as many visits to the nutritionist as I want so I can take advantage of that. Dr Roye who is also with RI hospital is doing mine. I wanted Dr. Harrington but he only does gastric bypass. I'm not to thrilled with Dr Royes staff, they can be a little rude but he is great. It was a hard choice between him and Dr Phoul (sp ?) he is out of roger williams and I don't like it there. Good luck to both of you. Keep me informed of your progress.
