August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Jill4329 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was the same date as yours. I've lost 14 since the surgery but 53 overall since the first doctor visit. I am not figuring out how to get calories up to even 800 as my doctor would like but he seems satisfied with where I'm at on everything. I usually don't get near 400 calories a day. On soft food for one more week. -

Wow. You get snacks?! One more way doctors differ. Mine says no snacks. I saw him on Tuesday for my first post op appointment and it went fine. I had lost down to 246 so he was very pleased. That is a total of 52 pounds overall. I also got into a pair of capris that day that I haven't been able to get into for years. Other than a couple of mishaps with food, I have been feeling very well. With some things I'm getting out of the way this week, I expect to be able to exercise a lot more starting next week. -

I'm doing much better on that too. I don't think it has happened since my 8/21 surgery. -

I don't know. Maybe 9 is good. I started out at 299 pounds. On the three-month diet, I lost 28, and on the liquid diet, I lost 14. Surgery weight 257. Now 248. So is 9 good? -

Well, as far as sleeping position, my back is so messed up that I can't sleep for long in a bed without waking up hurting so badly that I have to get up anyway so I sleep in a recliner. Before the surgery, I drank lots of water but it tastes awful to me now. I am trying some drinks that have protein but are not the usual chocolate or vanilla. They are just protein waters with flavoring. I tried some I got at Sam's that I think were Premier Protein tropical punch flavor but I couldn't stand those. Husband said that they tasted like moose piss. Their chocolate drinks are good though. If my old scales are to be believed, then I have only lost 9 pounds since the surgery. I have ordered some digital scales that I am hoping will be more accurate. Also, on Tuesday I have my post-op appointment so I'll be finding out what they think I weigh on their scales. I haven't gotten more than 300 cal a day since the surgery so it seems to me it should be more than 9 pounds. I walk as much as I can. I usually go walk around the track once. I have a long driveway and walk up and down it sometimes. I've lost more than 50 pounds though from the day I began the three-month doctor-supervised diet that I had to do so I am happy with that as my overall number of pounds lost. -

I have apnea too and have the same thing happening with my full face mask. And the bad breath is awful. -

I have been amazed at how differently we are all told to manage things by our various surgeons and dietitians. Compared to so many, I feel very fortunate to have had so little difficulty myself. I was sleeved on 8/21 and had a hiatal hernia repaired that I have lived with for 20+ years. The only physical trouble I had while in the hospital was being unable to sleep whatsoever and running a fever for a few hours. Then feeling like I had been hit by a truck on day 3 at home and getting all weepy for two days. I never had any nausea or vomiting but they did plenty in the hospital to head off nausea and it clearly worked for me. Crushing pills was so frustrating for me that when I saw several of you who don't have to do that, I stopped it a few days ago and am doing just fine. I am due to start stage 3 Monday but I feel ready to do it now. Puréed sounds awful but my dietitian told me as long as it's small and I chew it to death I don't have to purée everything. My worst issues have been dragon breath and constipation along with major arthritis pain because I'm supposed to stay off Mobic and have not had it in a month. I have not felt overfull or any effects from the hernia repair. I saw someone who has been allowed to drink G2 but I was told no on that. I haven't posted weights yet so here goes and I'm not sure about abbreviations so it's: highest weight right before 3-month diet-299; after that diet- 271; surgery weight after liquid diet - 257; Currently 248 if my home scale is accurate; and I am only 5'2" so I often thought of myself as Short Round from Indiana Jones movie. Goal weight - not sure. They tell me ideal is 110, which I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams. I have the attitude that I will know it when I get there. I feel sure that 130 or 140 will feel just fine. I had the surgery because I was diagnosed with NAFLD. -

I do love your attitude! I rebelled today and began taking my pills whole and feel fine. Was crushing them, stirring them into sugar free syrup and still hating the whole process. -

Oh! Not a problem at all. I don't mind you recommending it. It must work wonders for some people. -

We are also together on the gabapentin. None for two days while in the hospital. Could not sleep at all in the hospital and not exaggerating a bit. I did not get oxy after this surgery either. I did after a surgery a few years back but not this time. No, medical marijuana is not legal here but people recommend it to me constantly. -

Sleeved 8/21. Have you tried sugar-free syrup to put your crushed meds into? I do that followed by a drink of Crystal light. It's manageable but I still don't like it. But what really bothers me is that I can't take my Mobic. Without it, my spine hurts constantly and all I want to do is sit with the heating pad on my back. I don't need pain medication for the surgical part but I do for my back. My surgeon wants me not to take Mobic for as long as possible, 6 to 9 months. I don't think I can wait that long. -

I have noticed that myself. Surgery 8/21. I think I'm just favoring my stomach and incisions a bit. That's all I can think it could be. -

Responding to Kennalb above (not sure if I should do this another way- still learning my way around here and trying to figure out how to crop my picture), my surgery was also 8/21 and if I do like my book seems to say to do, I don't see how I can get in all the liquids and protein. It says only about 3-4 ounces at meals and an ounce every 15 minutes otherwise. I know I can drink more than an ounce every 15 minutes and feel fine. And when I do the protein drink, I don't drink it as slowly as I'm supposed to, and I have felt fine. I have even gone up to 5 ounces and I'm fine. I guess we are just all different. I have quite a headache today but have not had any pain medicine because I was constipated from it. Now that's under control. A concern I have is that I'm on a bunch of medication for other health conditions unrelated to the surgery so I have to crush pills, etc. I have a lot of pain unrelated to it. Figuring out how to deal with all that. -

Having a little trouble with constipation myself. Some hot decaf tea is helping. -

Surgery was 8/21. Feeling well but cannot figure out how to get in all the protein and liquids I'm supposed to have. Maybe I misunderstood the instructions.
