Where did you have your surgery? My doctor uses a 32. D.R. Potential Sleever

I'm feeling better emotionally after my freak-out this morning. I'm feeling like I can do this and not as scared about it. I'm looking forward to the new lifestyle again. Thanks everyone for all your advice and input. It is appreciated. D.R. Potential Sleever

For those who are more than 6 months out how much can you eat? I'm scared that I will only be able to eat a couple bites of food the rest of my life. I know the size of my stomach will be drastically reduced and eating less is the point, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life only eating a couple bites of food. I have my first meeting with the surgeon in a few hours and I'm so scared. I HAVE to lose weight, I'm tired of feeling this way but I don't want to do something so drastic that I never eat normally again. I'm not looking for a way to eat large portions as I've already stopped doing that, I just want to enjoy a meal and eat more than a couple of bites. DR Potential Sleever

I re-read your post and realized what you were trying to say. My bad. I haven't put my weight in here yet as I haven't had surgery and don't have any other details besides my starting weight. Plus I don't really want to out my weight out there yet, I will one day when I'm at a weight that is less embarrassing and I feel like I've made some progress. DR Potential Sleever

I apologize if I'm driving all of you nuts with my questions, I know many of you here have been through it and may know how I'm feeling. DR Potential Sleever

Will I ever be able to have fresh vegetables and fruits again? I know not right away as our new stomachs are healing but during maintenance? These things have become staples in my diet and I enjoy them. I see a lot of posts and it seems that people only eat lean meat and veggies. I just want to be able (eventually) to sit down and have an orange or enjoy an apple when I want to. D.R. Potential Sleever

Drs. Pleatman (MI), Gonzalez (Dallas) and Nicholson (Dallas)
DRoseman replied to ElseeG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had any experience with them yet. I am going to have Dr. Pleatman do my surgery though. I've researched him and read all of the reviews about him and haven't found a bad one yet. A lot of people say that he has a very dry sense of humor. That's the most negative thing anyone has said about him. As for his surgical competence, I haven't read of anyone that had any complications or infections or any type of bad surgical experience with him. His office manager had surgery with him 3 yrs ago and hasn't had a single problem. I chose Dr Pleatman because of the reviews and he's the most affordable ($11,200) cash pay and I only live about 2 hours from him so he's relatively close. I hope that I have been somewhat helpful, and I wish you nothing but the best no matter who you choose. D.R. Potential Sleever -
Beginning of my journey

Good luck! DR Potential Sleever -
I'm glad to report that my husband has had a change of heart and I am back on the road to surgery! We discussed at length our finances and why I need to do this. I explained that I'm not doing this to look better (although it's a huge plus) but to be healthier and be out of daily pain and say goodbye to my CPAP. His reply when I said that: "then let's do this." D.R. Potential Sleever

For those who self-paid how much was your surgery?
DRoseman posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately, I cannot find a secondary insurance that will cover surgery and my primary insurance lists it as an exclusion, so I have no choice but pay out-of-pocket. The best physicians closest to me (Bowling Green and Toledo, Ohio) want $25k and $22k respectively. I am willing to travel outside of my immediate area even to surrounding states if necessary. For those of you that took the self-pay route, how much was and where did you have surgery? What was your experience like? Thank you all in advance for your input. D.R. Potential Sleever -

Family member not being supportive...
DRoseman replied to Fluffie2006's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm devastated, I finally chose my surgeon and thought that my life (and health) was going to change soon and for the better only to find out its going to take me another year to start from scratch to save up the money. DR Potential Sleever -
Family member not being supportive...
DRoseman replied to Fluffie2006's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought my husband was supportive too, but turns out, he's not. I've been discussing with him our finances and could we use all the money we have saved towards this urge and he got mad and started talking about we need that money fix the roof. Later, he went so far as to say that I need to stop thinking about myself all the time and think of others too. DR Potential Sleever -
