Scared out of my mind
LaLaDee replied to dfletcher1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're not scared then you're not taking this seriously. I was terrified. It's very normal. It helped that my surgeon has had zero fatalities. This made me feel so much better. The risks are also higher the more you weigh, the older you are and also depending on your other health issues. It's ok to be scared, but don't let that stop you. WLS patients are incredibly brave. In a way, I think it's good to be scared. You can't do this on a whim. It's a big deal. Now, chances are your surgery will go without a hitch, but that bravery is what you need in the months and years after your surgery as you change your life and confront your food demons. -

Wow - your doctors are so ambitious! Mine is very much of the view that it's up to our bodies and we can't predict where we will end up. He says that if I want I might get to a "dream" weight, but I have to balance that against how hard it will be to maintain. So if life is easier at a slightly higher weight and I don't have to obsess over every calorie then I might chose that path. I think these doctors are just trying to push you. You may not hit their goal, but you'll have to work very hard to try so you'll end up doing better than you would have. Anyone else feel like the "honeymoon" stage of weight loss is over? I really, really want to lose another 5kg (11pounds wish) but it doesn't seem to be happening. -

I’ve got an autoimmune disease too. Taking prednisone and methotrexate. It’s really, really difficult. We have to persevere though. I’m going to try focus on some of the tips from @allwet -
Maybe - but I was definitely sweatier prior to the surgery!

Congratulations!!!! I am hoping to be overweight soon too! Long journey from super morbid obesity. My BMI was over 50. I can’t wait to join you! -
I just travelled and got patted down after the body scanner on multiple occasions. This hadn’t happened to me prior to my surgery. I’m pretty sure it’s the loose skin. On one of the incidents, there were two men, and they were talking about calling over a female agent to pat me down, then they looked at the screen again and then looked me up and down (I was wearing pretty slim fitting clothing) and the one guy was like, no let her through, it’s fine. On the scanner screen, I could see two circles, one on my armpit and the other on the left side of my belly. Really freaky. I promise it’s loose skin not bags of heroin!

You have done so well! Is your ticker correct? 1.2 pounds to goal? That is so exciting! I agree about the forum giving you somewhere to brag a little. We go through all these changes and I think we need a way to process them. And normal people don't understand! -

I'm back from my vacation. My delicious carb fuelled vacation. Ugh. Got on the scale this morning and I'm up about 2kg (5 lb). I need to go back to healthy eating. Everything just feels like an uphill battle now! I woke up this morning and thought vacation is over. I had two weeks of Philly cheese steak, pizza, pasta (more delicious than I remembered after 9 months), burgers, fries, Cinnabon, pies, donuts (have mercy). It's hard. I feel like I'm breaking up with food again. This week is going to be sooooo hard. -
NSAIDS/Steroids post Gastric Bypass
LaLaDee replied to txtchr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleeve - not the bypass - but have been forced to take steroids. Haven’t seen any damage from them. I do think it makes it harder to lose weight. Plus my stomach is swollen. It’s horrible but I have no choice. -

My cycle has been very different since my surgery - like the timing and heaviness has all been different. It's returning to usual now, but is still 26 days instead of 28. There are lots of hormonal changes with weight loss so I've just accepted it. -

I'm hanging out on the east coast, NY, Washington, Philly. I have been eating bread while on holiday and dealing with major guilt! I've walked so much every day so far- 23,000 steps so hopefully that will balance it all out! -

Hey! I’m on holiday! Just took some long haul flights from Australia to USA. Losing weight is like giving yourself a free flight upgrade! No seat belt extender, extra room, not having your butt wedged against the arm rest. So much more comfortable! I could have wept with happiness! -

Hey everyone! So good to see people active on this thread again! I'm doing OK. Still losing. I've lost 60kg now (132lbs) in total. Would love to lose another 10kg (22lbs) but we'll see how we go. I've also been spending big on clothes. I just have these endless piles of clothes around the house. I feel weird about throwing them I'm heading to New York for two weeks, and although I've been avoiding bread, rice, potato, processed carbs etc, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to end up indulging a little. Hoping not to gain more than a few kgs! I don't want to track food while I'm on vacation though! I still have to be sensible most of the time though. -
After surgery safe for vacation?
LaLaDee replied to angjade2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could not have done that. I felt seriously unwell the first month. Acid reflux, no sleeping, no energy, nausea etc. Other people can bounce out of hospital and return to work the next day! -
What have you done for yourself lately?

To celebrate getting under 100kg (220lbs), I bought myself a shiny new laptop. I've wanted a new one and it seemed cool to "reward" myself. -
I do think it's good to tell your emergency contact person in case something goes wrong. I'm in the closet too. My Mum and half of my siblings know. And my hairdresser. Lol.

Yes, I was having fevers and chills the first 3 days or so. It's pretty normal. Your body is in shock. Keep an eye on it and see your surgeon if it doesn't stop after a few days.

I think those super fast weight gains have to be mostly water retention. Particularly where you usually have a strict diet and then you're having salt and highly processed food. A week back on track should take care of it! You can do it!
