  1. Hello All, My procedure is next Monday 9/25 and I am packing now (as I am having my procedure done out of sate). What are some of the things you were really glad you took with you to the hospital, or things you wish you had taken? Some of the things I have gathered while reading other posts are: Gas-X Dry mouth spray A small pillow for the drive home A binder (something to wrap around your tummy?) A warm robe Slippers with traction for walking ...What else is important?
  2. Sounds like we experienced the same sleep issues. I was woken up every 10 minutes by the oxygen alarm going off! Apparently, I am a "mouth breather". The nurse was really sweet, but pretty new. She kept telling me that she would rather come down every time it went off to make sure I was still breathing (instead of taking me off the oxygen, which I highly suggested). I finally just stayed awake and played with my phone. I thought about Netflix, but decided I was a little too stoned to follow a program (I am also apparently very sensitive to the anesthesia). Luckily, my hospital bed was very comfortable. Northern Nevada Medical is an amazing hospital!
  3. Less is definitely better for some people - and I am really glad it worked well for you. I'm just following up to let people know what worked for me. Something else I took that I forgot to mention was neutrogena face wipes and moisturizer. It felt really good to clean my face and sooth it with moisturizer the morning after. Also took a small tube of good lotion that felt great on my arms. It is really dry weather here.

    Belching

I am 2 days post op and I feel I have accomplished something magnificent if I can get a good burp out! The gas has been no fun at all ... and it isn't coming out the other way! [emoji15]
  5. Hey everybody. Thanks again for all is the input! I had my surgery on Monday and I can tell you what I was glad that I took and what was provided for me. 1. My phone and charger. This was important because several people wanted to know how I was doing. Also because it was a good distraction for when I couldn't sleep. 2 My own nightie, soft robe, sweats, and undies. I wasn't able to change until the next morning, but that was okay because I was so out of it the day of due to the anesthesia that I didn't care what I was wearing. I wasn't discharged the next day until 5pm, so it was nice wearing my own comfy clothes. I did use the robe the night I was there. Of course you can only put one arm through and drape it over the other shoulder where you have the IV. 3 Chapstick. They provided some, but I liked my Burt's Bees vanilla flavor better. 4 Small brush Things they provided: No slip socks. They were nice and comfy. When in bed, I was always hooked up to the leg massagers (not sure what to call them). I liked them though. I didn't have to wear the long compression socks. Toothbrush and toothpaste Alcohol pads - very helpful to sniff when feeling nauseas (just ask for some, you don't need to bring your own) Lots of ice. It helped so much chewing on ice! I had a plastic breathing device to help with getting in deep breaths, but it really dried out my mouth so the ice really helped! Also, I took gas x chewable tablets, but they wouldn't let me take it in the hospital. That is all I can think of. I was blessed with amazing nurses and exceptional care when I was in the hospital. I hope that go all who undergo this.

Headachy and irritable at the end of the day yesterday.  Need to drink more water.

  13. I would love to keep in contact with you. How are you doing with your pre op diet? Yesterday was tough for me. Not enough calories!! Had a hard time focusing at work and was headachy and irritable towards the end of the day. My BMI was over 35 when I started the preop diet before last week, but now is has dipped below 35 as I am losing weight. So, using that excuse, I called the nurse today to see if I could get them to add a few more calories to this liquid veggie diet....no dice haha! I was told to drink more water for the headaches...ugh :). Anyway, I hope your mind is more at ease today. Do you have a project you can focus on for the next week and 5 days?

    Liver Shrinking Diet

This is interesting. I started mine three weeks out (so a week ago since my surgery is 9/25). First week was: Protein shakes for Breakfast and Lunch Small amount of fruit, cheese, or nuts for 2 snacks Protein (300 cal or less) and veggies for dinner The two weeks before surgery (started yesterday): Protein shakes for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (full shake) Protein shakes for 2 snacks (half a shake) 1 to 2 cups of veggies with lunch and dinner Also includes clear sugar free liquids. woohoo...
  15. Hey, My first post to this site WooHoo :). Just wanted to let you know I am scheduled for 9/25 also. I was nervous last week, but the nerves have calmed down (yes, due to a lot of prayer!) Just started my 2 week pre op diet....protein shakes and some veggies...I think it is going to be a long 2 weeks! I live in AK, but am traveling to Nevada for my procedure (due to about $35,000 difference in price because I am self pay!). Hopefully the traveling will take my mind off of it some. Hope you are doing well. Hang in there - less than two weeks now. God is with you no matter what.
