I feel like I can eat too much
Bhageerah replied to PepperCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ABSOLUTELY!!! Cream of wheat is still soft, just wait until you eat something that has some density to it, just do yourself a favor and do like the NUT or Dr tells you and take small bites and take your time eating. You will be amazed at how little you are able to eat. I am almost two months out and I still can not believe how little fills me up. Eating to fast hurts WAY too much and one "normal" forkful can mean the difference between being full and being absolutely miserable. Yes I have made that mistake as well! Small bites and take your time eating, it will save you a lot of pain. -
As has already been said, walk and sip, you will be ok, I was only in the hospital for 9 hours and then I was on my way home. And I understand the pain that you are in, it will get better! If it gets too out of hand call your Dr office and see what they say. It will be painful for a few days but you can do it! Sorry to hear about the lack of support but you have quite a bit of support here! You are now officially part of the "family" and we take care of our own!!!

Sleeve VS RNY (Any advice welcome!)
Bhageerah replied to Road2Newme3's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I chose to get the sleeve, for several reasons one of which is that with the RNY since you are rerouting things inside and are relying on more staples and sutures you are opening yourself for more issues as well as a issue named intususpeption which is something I have seen first hand and do not want! The sleeve keeps everything "original" except for the size of the stomach, that was my choice. I think that you need to sit down and look at the positives and negatives of both as well as the procedure itself and make the choice that is good and right for you. I am not going to advocate either since it is a personal choice. When I had my surgery I went in thinking that I wanted the band, but the Dr highly advised against it, I heeded their warning and chose the sleeve. Your Dr may have an aversion to a particular surgery for various reasons. If you are unsure schedule some time to sit down and talk to them to help you make the correct choice. Good luck!!! PS we live in the same area, and my SIL is in management for Bon Secours and says that you are in great hands! She was trying to get me to go have my surgery there vs where I had mine done. -
I feel like I can eat too much
Bhageerah replied to PepperCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way post surgery, I NEVER had a problem keeping any food down, what is being said is the absolute truth. The liquids slide through even if it is a protein shake. The yogurt may stay with you for awhile but not long as it will slide right through as well. I had the same problem and thought that my sleeve was too large until I started doing some research and discovered what many here have told you. Once you start eating solid food you will QUICKLY discover how small your stomach is. Once you eat some real food you will see! I can only eat about 4oz over 30 minutes. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Bhageerah replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So its been a little over 6 weeks since surgery, and I officially know that I have made the right decision. I am down almost 60 pounds. My blood pressure is normal, endurance is way up, joints feel better, and I am much happier! I am back to eating normal foods and am working on eating slowly and paying close attention to what my body is telling me so I do not end up overeating and know when to stop. I know that one "normal" fork full of food is too much especially when you are close to being full. Overeating does not control me I am currently in control of it and it feels good. It feels great to fit in clothes that I have not been able to put on my behind in YEARS! What even feels more amazing is donating all of the largest size clothes and knowing that I will not need them anymore. -
Food help please!
Bhageerah replied to willowwaters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you do some searches you can find a few other recipes that you should be able to tolerate in addition to the above mentioned foods. Here is a website that helped me out quite a bit, http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html Good luck! -
I will tell you that refried beans were a meal that I was COMPLETELY looking forward to, I put some cheese and a little bit of taco sauce on them and was one happy man! After being able to do nothing but drink those shakes for two weeks it almost brought tears to my eyes the first spoonful of "real" food that hit my tastebuds! Its allowed so enjoy it, no apology needed!

Everyone: What was your turning point in your life that made you decide the wls route?
Bhageerah replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The moment that I started down this road was after I started having several health issues some of which my doctors could not even explain. I currently work as a Medic/Firefighter and was struggling with maintaining my weight as well as having to get new uniforms and was outgrowing those way to fast. I needed to get this under control, I lost my father due to problems that were related to his weight as well as issues acquired in Vietnam. I had to do better and had already tried quite a few diets and I actually was OVER the yo-yo weight loss/gain and trying the newest diet fads. I was sick and tired of being ashamed of my weight, or taking pictures with my shirt off, I was tired of barely fitting in a airplane seat, I was tired of not being able to get on amusement park rides due to my size. I was tired of sitting out on life and missing out on fun things with the family because I am ashamed of my weight. At one time I was down over 100 pounds and running a 5k in less than 27 minutes so I knew what it was like to be fit, I desired to go back to that point and get healthier. After trying another diet and gaining the weight back I decided to try this route and even though I am only a little over one month out from my surgery date I know that I have made the right decision and know that I am on the right track. I know I have this and am giving it everything that I have so I can live a longer happier life without the health issues that the excess weight brings with it! -
What are you treating yourself to once you hit your goal weight???
Bhageerah replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree, I plan on rewarding myself all along the way, and as you said being able to buy smaller and new clothes is a DEFINITE plus, it also feels wonderful to be able to throw the larger clothes away knowing that you will never need them again! Oh and CONGRATULATIONS on hitting your target! Give me about 8-12 more months and I will be there as well! -
What are you treating yourself to once you hit your goal weight???
Bhageerah replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a cruise junkie, so once I hit my goal weight I plan on going on a cruise and doing a zip line excursion as well as entering myself into several 5k's in my local area. I plan on living life to the fullest and not letting myself get back to the dark place that I was ever again! -
Stomach is hard above main incision
Bhageerah replied to Mytimenow17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was hard and slightly painful for about 4 weeks, it stopped hurting right about 5 weeks out for me, not sure why it was hard I think that it was maybe the sutures. But my pain was about a 3 or 4 and tolerable with some occasional Tylenol. I was about to say something about it and a few days after I decided I would say something the pain disappeared. -
It was a little over two weeks for me, I had a fatty liver that the Dr took a biopsy of so it was HARD sleeping. I was taking a dose and a half of percocet as well as my normal nightly dose of Ambien CR and was still waking up about every hour to rotate sides. I quickly found that sleeping in my recliner was better than sleeping in bed.

What was your mental state after surgery?
Bhageerah replied to cassislame's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was not depressed but I did feel like garbage for about a week after surgery. After about a week I started feeling better and have been getting better week by week. I will be returning to work in a few days and can not wait to get back to my routine! -
Ummmmmm please don't take this the wrong way but if I was your husband we would have broken the sound barrier getting home!!!! You DEFINITELY would not have had to tell me twice, I think that the cartwheels down the center aisle would have made people suspicious......

Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?
Bhageerah replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You should be fine, my Dr sends all of his patients home within a few hours after surgery. I was scheduled for surgery at 12pm, had to be at the hospital at 10am, by 11 I was in the back and getting ready for surgery. Not sure when I came out but I was in PACU for a bit and not long after I woke up I was going down for my swallow test. By 530pm on the same day I was being taken to the car in a wheelchair. My surgeon says that he sends everyone home the first day because he says that patients do better at home than they do in the hospital. In the hospital you have to wait for a nurse to walk around due to you being a high fall risk from anesthesia. They want you up and walking as much as possible as soon as possible after surgery. They also say that you are much more comfortable at home and can rest more and better vs being in a hospital. I had heard horror stories about people not being able to drink until the next day post surgery, I was eating ice chips within 2 hours post surgery. I am honestly glad for a variety of reasons that I got to come home sooner than later! To be able to sleep in you're own bed or recliner if you are a side sleeper like I am is wonderful! To use your own shower and bathroom! Trust me you will be fine! There is no need to be nervous!! -
Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the question Why?
Bhageerah replied to StephersSweet's topic in Rants & Raves
I am SO glad that you posted this, if we were neighbors I would give you one heck of a bear hug! I am one that did not tell everyone that I know, I told all of my family that was extremely supportive and a few people at work but not too many! There are three forms of communication, telephone, tell a friend and tell a firefighter! Not being one to have everyone in my business I kept it to down to a couple of people that I can trust at work. A few asked why, and did the same thing about working out and changing your eating habits (we all know the drill). Best friend told me about his sister in law in Brazil that recently had WLS surgery and was regretting it. Tried selling me on a diet that he was on where they limit themselves to minimal calories for two days out of the week and can gorge themselves the other five days. I have no desire to go that way because we all know the road that we go down when we do such things. Rather than be supportive he was actually offensive, we have known each other for over 30 years and I was not happy. I did not say a word but I have a feeling that his wife gave him a ear full because the next day he had changed his tone and was very supportive. I have heard the"Why" question too many times already and it has only been a month to the day. I am past tired of hearing it and know that it is a question that will continue if I continue to inform people of my choice. I am already sick of telling folks about my genetics (most in my family from uncles and cousins on up are WELL above 450lbs) , both of my parents had health issues related to their weight and so do I. I have tried QUITE a few diets and realize that they do not work and it is a matter of lifestyle change. This surgery was a tool for me to use to get healthier and know that what I am doing is adding years, and not just years but quality years onto my life! I am proud of my decision but I do not plan on saying much to many more people as to "why" because I am over answering it especially when those that usually ask it do not have the issues that we have. -
What is a non-food activity your REALLY looking forward to?
Bhageerah replied to celticNgel's topic in The Gals' Room
I agree completely bro! I am sick of having to pay extra for "Big and Tall" and not having a whole lot of selection! I also want to be able to fit in the rides at Busch Gardens again and be able to ride roller coasters with the kids!! Wife and I also have a cruise scheduled for June 2018 that we have to fly to Seattle for. I am looking forward to being able to get into a seat and have a little bit of room to move around, rather than just barely being able to fasten the seat belt! I am looking forward to being healthier and living longer without knee pain, back pain, hypertension, or a fatty liver!!! Sorry @celticNgel I just can't see myself going to Victorias Secret and getting a nice bra and panty set unless it was for the wife, she would get downright medieval for any other reason! -
Congratulations! I know that mine did not last long but it was still a pain in the posterior! But it was something that I would gladly go through again if me meant that I would get the same results that I have had! About the only thing that I absolutely hated and have no desire to ever do again is the clear liquids for two weeks!

Halfway to goal
Bhageerah replied to MyBariatricLife's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations! I know it wasn't easy at times but all of you're hard work has paid off! I am an eternal optimist and enjoy seeing posts of people here that knock it out of the park! -
Hit a milestone today!
Bhageerah replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations! You have worked darned hard and are reaping the benefits! You look absolutely amazing! You ROCK!!! Job well done, I am looking forward to see what I look like in another 11 months after seeing your pictures! -
I brush my tongue and I can tell you that I have the same issue! I brushed my teeth constantly and I also have made Listerine stock go up a few points because I am constantly using it! I have found that is about the only thing that helped me. I am using it about 4-6 times a day. I am brushing my teeth more and using it constantly!

Should I be concerned? Incisions...
Bhageerah replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations on finding out what was going on and good luck!!!! -
Itching is a good thing, that lets you know that the wounds are healing rather nicely! When mine started itching I rubbed them but did not use my nails to scratch them, you do not want to open up the incisions or where the trocar went in. I know it is hard to ignore but try to leave them alone as much as possible

I do the same thing, I am just happy to see the weight going down on a scale vs going up, its harmless and I am also prepared to see it stay in the same spot for awhile while I work through a stall. Hopefully by the time that hits I will be able to increase the amount that I am working out. One of my personal goals is to be able to do a 5k without having to stop, or slow down, before my weight gain I was doing a 5k in less than 27 minutes, and once I get to that point again this big boy will be doing cartwheels down the street!!!!
