I'm on my 2nd week after being banded. I'll have my post op visit next Tuesday and will be able to start mushies after that. I'm trying to decide which diet plan I will follow when I start solid foods. I've done both low carb and weight watchers in the past with good results from both. I love cheese and sauces that are allowed in the atkins type diet, but wonder how well meat will be tolerated. And I wonder how much sucess people have had with a less strict plan that allows occasional Pasta and rice dishes. Not having bread won't really be a problem for me. But I'm worried that if I get off the plan after I loose a lot of weight, I might gain it back if I switch to another plan "for life". The weight watchers type plan seems more realistic in the long term "for life" eating. It allows fresh fruit, Soup, and yogurts which I love, and has easy ready to eat meals that i can fix quickly and will be able to take to work, but doesn't have great flavor with low fat cheeses, sauces, and dressing. Would you long term banders please share your success or not so successful stories with me?

Thanks jjsmiles! I'm soooo glad for this support forum! The mind game I've played with food so long has ruined me. I'm like a kindergartner starting all over again. I'm very grateful that you upperclassmen are here to guide us along!

woo hoo!!! we're all doing so great!

Thanks Sharon! It's weird how after a lifetime of dieting I still focus on what I can't have instead of the positive aspect of the band.

Nice to meet you Abby. I'm finally done with soreness and able to go about life as normal. I've done really well with weight loss, but I've heard that it's easier for super sizers to loose in the first month. My body was used to lots of calories, and now I'm doing good to force down 400-500 a day. I felt like it was a huge investment too. That's one of the reasons I put it off so long. I felt like I was taking away from the family. I'm sooo glad I got selfish and did this!!
Where are you from? I'm a Louisiana girl (fat southern chick!).

OK, not so hot thread. Lots of views but few replies...LOL! I'm still a band "baby" or newbie. I've had sucess with both diets, but it was preband. I guess my real question is which one is better tolerated post band? Atkins...lot's of meat...do you have a problem eating? WW....lot's of Pasta...do you have a problem eating?

After surgery check in for Avengers!
mamakatken replied to LynneB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My biggest problem was the CIB also. In the pharm section at walmart you can find Myoplex lite ready to drink shakes that are low carb and really smooth. The french vanilla has 20g protein and is really good. They also have strawberry, choc, too that have 17g protein. They seen to go down a whole lot easier for me. -
this isn't homemade, but it's what i'm having tonight: 1 can Cambell's Italian Wedding Soup 1 wedge laughing cow garlic and herb cheese 1 scoop unjury Protein powder puree all in blender then heat and serve....very flavorful and quick.

Winegoddesstx, Thanks! Good luck tomorrow. I bet you'll be suprised at how much you've lost in a week! I love to step on the scales in the morning. It gives me motivation to keep to my plan!

Hey guys...I'm 299 this morning!!!! It's sooooo great to look down and not see 3 something anymore! I weighed twice just to make sure!! I had a really good day yesterday. Most of the soreness is gone except when I sneeze or cough and my port site burns a little bit. How's it going with you guys?

since start of preop diet....15 lbs for me!!

Pudding, yogurt, and cream soup is on my doc's ok list for weeks 1-2. I've done really good until I ate too much. My diet instructions are no more than 1/2 cup every hour and I'm supposed to alternate clear liquid with full liquid. My big mistake was not stopping at 1/2 cup pudding!

Would It Kill Me....
mamakatken replied to wickman2617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Heather. I was also banded on the 1st. Remember that everyone's docs have their own set of instructions....My doc's diet is clear liquids alternating with full liquids the 1st 2 weeks. Yogurt, puddings, and cream soups are on my approved list and boy am I glad. I'm finding myself hungry and wanting something to chew on!! Just like Susan said, though, call the MD's office in the morning and check with them. It will probably be ok with them since your recovery has been uneventful. Good luck fellow April Fool Gal! -
After surgery check in for Avengers!
mamakatken replied to LynneB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Today is my first good day. Still having gas pains, but able to get up and move around the house. I am still 100% excited about having the surgery and can't wait for the results! -
day 4 post op feeling UGH!!
mamakatken replied to heidismiles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heidi, I'm having the same pressure sensations. I'm supposed to have 1/2 cup protein shake 3x day and I'm miserable full after 1/8 cup. So far the only thing that doesn't cause that sensation is warm liquids. I tried popsicles but they made it worse for me. I also gained 2 pounds coming home from the hospital, but I had some swelling from the fluids. Let's hang in there together and one day we'll wake up feeling great! -
One word is hard to describe all the things I want to be! But the one that comes to mind is what my daughter tells me when I wear a cute new outfit.....HOTMAMA!

1-Day Post Op-need encouragement
mamakatken replied to wickman2617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last night was the worst so far. The gas pains hit with a vengance! I do feel better this morning, though. Sipped on a CIB with added unjury protein powder. I really don't have a "full" reeling, but I'm not hungry either. Lost 3 lbs since surgery and 7 on 3 days of preop clear liquids, so I'm counting 10# loss since Saturday!!! -
1-Day Post Op-need encouragement
mamakatken replied to wickman2617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heather, I was banded yesterday and I feel very sleepy and tired too. I stayed overnight just for the rest and got home this moring. No gas pains either. Tolerating fluids fine. My port site is the most sore thing and it doesn't feel great getting up and down out of the recliner, but no real pain. I didn't have to use the spirometer, but had to do deep breathing when they checked my vital signs through the night. Let's all us April Fools keep each other going! -
April 1 & 2 Bandsters - Good luck
mamakatken replied to Jo Skinnie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey guys...everything went perfectly. I was taken into surgery at 11 am on the 1st and was inrecovery about an hour later. I was a bit more sore than I thought I would be, but I was told it was because of the gas they use to blow you up. I sipped on coffee, koolaid, and water and ate a popsicle all without problems. I did spend the night just for rest from my 5 precious children. And what a great sleep it was! Was discharged at 9 this morning and am now in my recliner on my laptop with my K2O at my side. The whole experience has been uncomplicated and so far I'm doing wonderful. -
I'm leaving for the hospital. Happy Band Day to me!!!! Good luck to all the "Not so April Fools Any More"!!

Hey everyone. After 9 months of aggravating calls to my insurance company and 2 denied appeals, we finally scrimped up enough money to pay for my lap band!!! I did my preops yesterday and will be banded on APRIL 1ST!!! I feel free already just knowing that it's really going to happen!!! I've followed a fat restricted diet for the last week, but am not officially on liquid restriction until the day before surgery. I feel for all of those who are on liquids already. I know how hard it must be. I am doing a self imposed liquid diet starting tomorrow, just to make sure I minimize my complications during and after surgery (yep I'm a hard headed nurse!). I am soooo proud to be a part of the April group!!!

I'm going to be banded this Tuesday, April 1st (no it's not an April Fool's joke!). Dealt with insurance for 9 months and lost 2 appeals because Aetna didn't think I was sick enough for surgery. So I finally saved enough money and payed for my surgery at preop yesterday!!!! I'm am sooo ready!!! Went shopping today for all the wonderful post-op foods I will be eating and have started "getting the house in order" so I won't have to clean or do laundry for a few days afterwards.
