  1. Hi all- My weight the day of surgery was 226.2lbs Week 1 post-op- I lost 12 lbs Weeks 2 & 3 I lost and regained the same 1 pound. I am: Tracking in MyFitnessPal and getting in 60-65 grams of protein/day BM’s are regular and has been very early on Fluid intake is consistently 64 fl oz. & more and has been very early on Portion sizes are from 1 oz. - 1.5 oz. I am eating 3 meals/day and drinking 1/2 protein shake between breakfast & lunch and the other 1/2 between lunch & dinner, drinking Fairlife milk 2% a couple of hours after dinner (supposed to be 1% but it was not available that day in grocery) Calories were previously in the 400s and I have increased this week to the mid 500s I am getting concerned that it has been 14-15 days with no loss and I will be 4 weeks post-op next week and I am stuck. I am looking for some suggestions. Thank you!

Weight loss stall 3 weeks post- OP

Wow, how interesting! Thanks so much for sharing this information! I am definitely going to do some additional research and bring this up at my next appointment. Are you actually able to eat the specified amounts on your plan? I ask because, me personally, I am not able to get up to 600 calories right now as I am always full from meals, water, shakes and am constantly drinking something to meet fluid and protein requirements. My portion sizes have slightly increased from 1ounces to 1.5 ounces, but I cannot tolerate any more than that currently.
  3. To measure your fluid intake. That's what they start you at in the hospital.

3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.

28lbs in 2 months is fantastic! That's (3) 10lb bags of potatoes! Getting under 200lbs is my first goal as well! I totally understand the struggle of getting additional cals in between meeting fluid requirements, protein shake requirements and making sure it's spaced out with meals. I feel like all I do is drink all day. My meal plan progressed through the stages rather quickly and I was eating pureed ground turkey at day 3 post-op. I've tried chicken recently---chicken thighs and legs and as long as it is moist, I'm good. I know I cannot due chicken breasts for awhile unless it's been in the slow cooker in some sort of sauce. What I've been doing to make my ground turkey more moist (I do not blend/puree it anymore), is adding a chicken bone broth supplement to it (I guess it's like chicken stock) and it's additional an 15 grams of protein and tastes really good!
  5. Congratulations! I personally didn't use much of what I packed including gas-x strips, chapstick, etc. I didn't even use my cellphone since I was knocked out from the IV Phenergan. Before you are discharged don't forget to ask your nurse about bringing home extra 1 oz medicine cups! Those little things are pretty helpful! I found having things like a fleece blanket and fleece sweater helpful in the comfort aspect of things. Also, I completely forgot about popsicles my 1st week post-op---don't do this. When I did remember about them, they of course were AMAZING. Good luck!

3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.

I did not expect to stall this early out and it makes me question if whether or not I will lose the 1-2 lbs/week my team expects us to lose. I am having a hard time getting to 600 cals/day, but will definitely try increasing my protein intake, thank you! Is this your first stall? How far out are you?

Wow! Thank you for sharing your stats and Congratulations on such a big loss! Can you please give us an idea of what a typical day of eating looks like for you to get to 1000-1200 cals/day at 5 weeks post-op? I am 3 weeks post-op and just recently upped my calories to mid 500s (previously 400s) and am having a heck of a time getting up to 600 cals/day due to meeting the fluid requirements and appropriately spacing out my 1-1.5 oz meals 3 times a day.

I also had surgery on 12-18 and also posted today about not losing anything these past 2 weeks! My weight the day of surgery was 226.2 lbs and I lost 12lbs the first week. I have lost and gained 1 lb the last 14-15 days. I am: Tracking in MyFitnessPal and getting in 60-65 grams of protein/day BM’s are regular and has been very early on Fluid intake is consistently 64 fl oz. & more and has been very early on Portion sizes are from 1 oz. - 1.5 oz. I am eating 3 meals/day and drinking 1/2 Protein Shake between Breakfast & lunch and the other 1/2 between lunch & dinner, drinking Fairlife milk 2% a couple of hours after dinner (supposed to be 1% but it was not available that day in grocery) Calories were previously in the 400s and I have increased this week to the mid 500s I just don't know what I can do differently. I have been told by my team the expectation is to lose 1-2lbs/week and am nervous it won't happen since I am this early out and have not lost a lot. I guess we'll see.....

3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.

Man oh man, are you right---totally frustrating. I have PCOS, so I haven't gotten a regular period in > 6 months. And had a heck of an experience with post-op blood thinners and vaginal bleeding OR menstruating last week (I say "or" because the minute I stopped blood thinners, I stopped bleeding). Thank you for replying and sharing your experience! Fingers crossed my drop comes soon! Thanks again

3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.

Thank you for replying! I have also read about the infamous "3-week stall". The only thing is, I haven't lost anything at 2 weeks post-op in addition to week 3 : / Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!!!

for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

I was self-pay, so I didn't have to meet insurance requirements. I didn't do much of a pre-op diet either. Two days before surgery, my "last meal" was divine--- it was Thai food. Red chicken curry with mixed vegetables, a taste of drunken noodles and to finish things off the right way, one scoop of carvel ice cream in the flavor, "Cookie Butter"! I was a little paranoid to eat my "last meal" the day before surgery as I felt it was too close and kept things pretty mild the day and night before.

    Weight loss first week.

I was also sleeved on 12/18. When I got home from the hospital and weighed myself, I gained 4.8lbs. My second day home and after peeing A TON, ended up dropping 7lbs ---- of course, mostly water. I also struggle with weighing myself too much and will be attempting to just pick one day to weigh myself and keeping the scale completely out-of- sight until the next time, for temptation-sake. Happy Holidays!
  14. Hi all- My surgeon's post-op plan allows 1-2oz pureed/mushy soft, high protein meals at days 3-14. For example: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna, ground chicken and ground turkey. The "pureed/mushy" phase is combined and there is no separation regarding pureed vs mushy foods. I am almost 5 days post-op from VSG and so far, so good. I've had soup that's been pureed, greek yogurt with 1/2 slice of canned peach (in fruit juice, not syrup) pureed, canned chicken salad. There have been ZERO issues in terms of nausea/vomiting/discomfort and my serving size is 1oz at a time. I am close to meeting fluids goals and am hovering around 55 fl. oz/day. Still working on meeting 40mg protein/day requirement and am drinking one supplement shake/day and using GENEPRO too. Overall I just feel hesitant about my eating. My concern is that I see there is quite a variation of post-op diet plans and most people are on liquids/full liquids for some time immediately post-op and my plan allows me to sorta bypass that stage. I will be sure to bring-up my concerns at my 1st follow-up appt. next week, but for the time being should I just continue doing what I am doing since I've had no issues.....yet?

Almost 5 days post-op and on mushy/pureed stage

I tried protein oatmeal yesterday and it was fantastic! And you're absolutely right, thank you!

Almost 5 days post-op and on mushy/pureed stage

Thank you so much! I've been concerned that I am progressing too fast. After hearing about you and your wife's similar plan, it certainly helps. What did you eat during your soft/mushy/puree stage? Did you have vegetables? Any recommendations other Genepro? One thing I really like about Genepro is that there is no after-taste and that the protein scoop is not HUGE.

    Protein oatmeal

Since I'm still pretty early out I use a mini food-processor for a more fine consistency of oatmeal. But anyways, I add a dash of cinnamon to dry oatmeal, 1 scoop of unflavored Genepro protein powder, 1/2 pack Truvia, stir thoroughly so everything gets incorporated. I then add 1% milk and cook in microwave. As soon as it comes out, I add a small amount of vanilla extract and stir. It is SO good. No aftertaste at all, and it is creamy.
  18. I've tried looking for some immediate post-op food ideas and have come across a lot of information for people further post-op (for example 7 weeks) but not for much immediately post-op. I understand everyone's post-op diet varies and am trying to figure out what I can prepare/meal prep before surgery for post-op. My surgeon's post-op plan : Day 1- no food Day 2-no food. Water, ice chips, SF fluids, broth, decaf coffee/tea, SF ice pops. Days 3-14 1-2oz pureed (mushy) soft, high Protein meals. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna, ground chicken and ground turkey. From what I've read, not very many people start mushy or pureed foods at 3 days post-op.... Just looking for some ideas.
  19. Thank you all so much! I got these 2 things from GNC today: 1. GENEPRO Medical Grade Unflavored 30g Protein Powder 2. (2) bottles of Isopure Zero Carb Protein Ready-To-Drink And I have one 12-pack of MuscleMilk. I think that's going to be it for now, as far as supplements. What are your thoughts on vitamins immediately post-op as well?
  20. Hi all! I am self-pay and am scheduled to be sleeved soon by Dr.Wizman and wanted to hear other's experiences in regards to the hospital stay. 1. Which hospital did you have surgery at? Coral Springs or Aventura. 2. Private-room or shared? 3. Is there a specific Bariatric floor/wing of the hospital? 4. How long were you in the hospital for? A family member will be staying with me and is not wanting to stay at a near-by hotel as they are concerned with this being my first surgical procedure ever and I am trying to figure out the logistics of everything. Thanks!
  21. I have a sleeve gastrectomy consult scheduled with Dr.Shillingford in 2 weeks. Google reviews and Facebook has him close to 5 stars, which makes makes me a little suspicious, but otherwise his staff has been extremely pleasant to communicate with. He is a member of the American Board of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and according to his website has performed > 4000 surgeries, but I worry about it being a "conveyor belt" type of experience, if that makes sense. Also, the only other doctor I have considered going to is Dr.Wizman in Margate because he offers BLIS Complication Protection. I am a local and do not have to travel far for either surgeon, but wanted to post on this forum to see if anyone consulted both surgeons and what was your deciding factor regarding choosing your surgeon. Also, I am self-pay.
  22. Thank you for sharing your experience and the video! How long were you in the hospital for? Was a leak test performed post-operatively before discharge from the hospital?
  23. Thank you again! Good luck to you!
