February Rny Surgeries??
resipsaloquitur replied to deflatingslowly's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I felt the same about soups but also got tired of all my protein being sweet shakes! Hang in there, eggs and refried beans will be on your plan soon! yes, my tastebuds have also changed. I bought seafood salad two days ago and couldn’t eat more than three bites. Used to love the stuff and now I don’t like it. If only I felt that way about cookies! I still want foods that I can’t make fit into my plan (desserts, dumplings), but at least I don’t feel hungry. That makes saying no easier. I have three months of vitamins that I don’t like at all! I’m looking for the time to run by my surgeons office and buy the brand they sell that tastes slightly better. Today was my first full day back to work/kid routine. I missed my caffeine in the morning and felt tired by lunch time, but aside from that, I felt normal and fine all day. Little steps. -
February Rny Surgeries??

@k.tallent - the evening went really well. Took egg drop soup. Really wanted what everyone else had, but the feeling went away as soon as they finished eating and the food was no longer in front of me. Got moved to soft foods with permission to work my way into real foods if all continued to go well. I am sticking with fish and well-ground up chicken/ham at this point, but it's nice to have semi-normal stuff again! Some days I struggle with water, but more than that I struggle with getting all of the protein from food sources and generally have to add a shake in to get the last of the protein requirement met. How is your progression going? -
I have Severe IBS and GERD. I assume eventually I will have to have a endoscopy as part of my pr-op requirements.

I had severe GeRD prior to surgery. To the point that I was up multiple nights per week vomiting between 1-3am (naturally, I’m the freak that could vomit multiple nights and still manage to gain weight). When my surgeon learned how bad my reflux was, he ordered additional testing done (I was originally planning for VSG). Turns out the reflux was NOT from being fat (as I and my pcp has always assumed). I have gastroparesis- I don’t digest foods nearly as quickly as most people. Based on that, my surgeon recommended against the VSG but let me know that the RNY would literally bypass the issue of gastroparesis! I was hesitant but ended up taking his advice and got the RNY on 2/21/18. Couldn’t be happier! No more reflux at all! -

Kimmie- you might consider asking your surgeon to do some tests to determine the cause of reflux while you’re going through all this. I’m in Louisville and one of the major reasons I was trying for wls was to end the waking multiple nights per week from 1-3 am puking from reflux. I assumed it was weight related (as did my pcp). Fortunately, my surgeon (Dr Ben Tanner at Nortons) decided to check into it a little more and determined it was due to gastroparesis (I don’t digest food at the same rate of a normal body). It influenced his choice of surgery. I’m very very happy with the extra care he took to check on that and with the RNY I subsequently had (no more reflux for me)! I know that’s a little off topic, but seeing as how you’re in KY I thought I’d share. Also, the 6 mo goes by quicker than you’d think! -

I got RNY on 2/21/18. I am still open to hosting meetings. Anyone interested still? Let me know which nights of the week you would be available and how often you want to meet. -
Travel 3-weeks Post Op revision surgery Lap Band to RNY
resipsaloquitur replied to GA_Terri's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'll update again after travel. However, as of yesterday, I was given clearance for travel by my surgeon for 3/8. I am restricted to lifting no more than 10lbs until the day I travel - at which point I am fine to lift what I am able to lift. I was also progressed to puree and soft/mushy foods as of yesterday!!! This will make that dinner out a little easier I hope. I will still pack protein drinks and my stick blender as I doubt that the lunches will be very food-stage compliant, but I am grateful for having options! -

I am very slowly starting to feel like myself also (except that real food sure sounds good!). Tonight I am venturing out for the first time post-op to attend my youngest son’s swim banquet. I will not be able to eat the dinner and figure I’ll take crystal light and maybe egg drop soup so that I’m not completely slobbering over everyone else’s bbq. Funny enough, I don’t feel hungry and have to remind myself to take in enough fluids, but the thoughts of foods are killing me! -

I had RNY on 2/21/18 and also have travel on 3/8/18. I always pack light (and I usually check my bag). By checking my bag and only carrying a purse on board, I won’t have to lift anything (I will pull the suitcase off the carousel and use the wheels). My hotel room will have a mini fridge so my plan is to pack protein powder and a stick blender and just purchase milk at the hotel. I am a little nervous about one big dinner out that we will have as a group. I’ve asked to be given notice of the restaurant selection when it’s made so that I can determine whether anything on the menu is on my menu at that time (maybe soup?). If not, I plan to attend anyways and enjoy Water because I get a lot out of the conversation at these dinners (it’s a learning thing). I know that will feel awkward, but I also plan to tell anyone who asks that I had a recent stomach surgery and just can’t eat what’s on the menu yet. I know not everyone would be comfortable with my plan, but that’s what I plan to do. -

Ok. So then let's get it going now. I just attended a seminar at Nortons yesterday and anticipate getting a sleeve early next year. What nights work best for meeting? I have an office on Outer Loop near Jefferson Mall that we can use for meetings. Tues- fri nights are best for me. Give some feedback and we'll get the first meeting scheduled! -

I am looking into having the sleeve and would love to meet with locals who have also had it. I have an office near Jefferson mall in Louisville that could be used for meetings.
