Entering new phase in my life

Well, I got a little too cocky that this process would be 100% smooth-sailing. This past Tuesday I decided to go to McDonald's for breakfast and got scrambled eggs (I've had these at home with no problems). After about 6 small bites my stomach was telling me to quit. I didn't quite know if the stomach was confusing hunger pangs with something else so stupid me I took another 3 bites when I realized it was the latter. I felt this incredible fullness, more like a tightness, in the stomach, like something got stuck there. I figured OK I'm done and this sensation will pass. It took 8 hrs before I felt fine. I suspect the McDonald's eggs were very dry and the fact I didn't drink anything for 30 min before eating compounded this. What I've noticed since the surgery is how little appetite I have. Not only that but I don't feel thirsty at all. I am a physician and you'd think I know better than to teach medical students for two hrs that may be I should have water. Well no, I didn't think. I actually went through the cafeteria and it sill didn't occur to me to get bottle of water. It was such a nice day that I decided to take a walk in the park - it was 90 degree out. In any case, I get back to my office about an hr later to see patients. Still not drinking or eating anything since early that morning (one protein shake). All of a sudden I felt this incredible tightness in my jaw, throat and chest. Being a MD the first thing I though is OMG I'm having a heart attack! I finished my day early and drove home. En route I called my wife and told her OK I'm gonna die and she needs to take me to ER. I get home and she calmly but firmly told me in no uncertain terms that I am a freakin' idiot and that I was hypoglycemic and dehydrated. Being the great wife she is she told me to lie down on the couch. She gave me water and made eggs (I can't seem to avoid them). Within 30 min I felt back to my usual self. I saw my surgeon 2 days after the above debacle who, like my wife, told me in a nice way, I'm an idiot and I should know better. Well I do now,. Lesson learned.sson to myself. I need to drink water and have something to eat even if I have zero hunger and thirst. BTW, I will not ever never ever do puree diet. It looks gross. I'd rather stay with full liquids with occasional soft food than to eat that stuff. To date, since my surgery on August 14, I have lost 23 lbs. I can actually start to see my knees below my belly. I'm going to start exercising this week beginning with walking and moving up from there. -

ok...I'm 10 days out from RNY. No problems so far and have lost 12 lbs. Still in full liquid stage although to be honest I am cheating. Went to Japanese restaurant with family yesterday and got Miso soup (just sipped on the broth). Not bad. Waited 10 min and felt the ok. Then figured why not have piece of California role. mmmm. Wait another 5 min. so far so good. Getting a bit over-confident as I why not try the ginger chicken . Ok so I'm staring at this food and thinking to myself "I'm going to chew this real good. Pretend I can puree the food by chewing each small bite into liquid. Did this with a couple of small pieces. Hey I doing good. I must be one of those real fast healers. Downed another two pieces. Feel great! There I am thinking I can go back to regular food! And then it hits. Starts as a deep pressure where I think the pouch is. Turns into sharp pain into right lower back. Ok, I'm screwed. Feels like the Alien is going to rip out of me any second. OMG. I ripped open the stoma or so I thought. I'm bracing for the worst. We drove the mile or so back to the house. I go upstairs and sit down on the bed hoping I'm not going to vomit or have dumping. I sit there on the bed for 30 min and the sensation passes. I breathe a sigh of relief. I dodged a bullet. Sobering experience. So that's where I'm at. Gonna do a better job staying with the program. My first postop appt is tomorrow. Will ask the surgeon to refer me to eye doctor to make my eyes smaller or prescribe glasses that makes everything larger. So that's where I'm at... -

Hi everyone, just had RNY done on August 14 of this year. Im a male 57 yo old and am 90 lbs overweight. My wife had same procedure done 10 months ago and is down 60+ lbs and counting. My surgery was pretty much uneventful although I have to admit beforehand I had doubts not so much what I could eat but how much. We have so much food choices and eat way too much. To prepare myself mentally I allowed myself 4 "one last full " meals in the month before the surgery comprising spaghetti with meatballs; sushi sashimi deluxe; 12 in tuna sub and, of course; whopper with cheese and fries. After the surgery somewhat surprisingly I had no pain or significant discomfort. I went on the full liquid diet after going home 2 days postop. I haven't had any issues with the full liquid but I have this strong craving for tuna fish. So far have lost 7 lbs in 5 days! I'm keeping up with the protein and water requirements. So far so good.
