    Newbie to the 60+ group

I went to the doctor yesterday because I felt like I had a sinus infection. Unfortunately, I was right. Now I am on strong antiboctics, and hope to get this cleared up quick so I don't have to postpone my August 4th banding date. I feel pretty confident the meds will clear this up in time. I would really feel bad if I had to postpone the surgery. I start the liquid diet Monday. plevy How did everything go for you?
  2. I get banned on August 4th. Count be in!

I got the date for my surgery today!!!! It's schedule for August 4th. This will be a early birthday present for me, as my birthday is the 7th. No cake for me this year. But, I would really rather have a healthier rest of my life, than a piece of cake.

Hi Buttcha Yes, I meet your friend Karen K and she is very nice and really seems to know her stuff. She like the rest of the staff, have been very helpful. I have Blue Cross Blue Sheild and they required a six month surpervised diet, pysh exam, and many test. That's why it took so long. I wa approved by BCBSa few weeks ago, but the required class was full. I see Dr. Stanish Thursday, and get the date for my surgery You will learn alot at the seminar. Let me know how you are doing. It really helps to have this website for support. It's always good to know you are not alone.

    New 60+ Thread

Hi Everyone I'm still here. Had a four day weekend for the holiday. What a pleasure!!! I worked around the house all day today, trying to get stuff done. I get my surgery date on Thursday, July 10th, so I thought I better get what I can done before surgery, so I can take it a bit easier after surgery. Hope everyone one had a good holiday. It sure got warm here in NW Indiana (about 87 today) and very dry.

Hi Buttcha I live in Lake County - Schererville. We are only a few miles apart. I am having my lapband done at Methodist Hopsital in Merrillville, by Dr. Paul Stanish. I get my date when I see him on Thursday, July 10th To answer your questions about pre-diets. Some insurance plans require a doctor supervised diet for six months prior to approving the surgery. Then there is 12 day full liquid diet two weeks before the surgery, with the 2 days before surgery only allowing Clear Liquids. After the surgery, it's back to the full liquids for then pureed food for a while. Methodist has seminars on a frequent basis. The date are on their internet site. The program is called ReStart. I have been doing a low carb diet during my six month supervised diet, and lost over 40 pounds so far. They say it's best to lose what you can before the surgery, because it makes in easier. I feel better already!!! Good luck to you, and keep it touch.

    Just Approved

plevy ... Congratulations! I'm sure it seemed like it took forever to get approval- I know it did for me. I still don't have a date for my surgery. I should have my date on July 10th, when I see the surgeon, again. Had all my lab work done the other day. Good luck to you, and hope to keep hearing from you.

    New 60+ Thread

Carol Hang-in there! I started out in Oct. 07, and finally see the doctor for a surgery date on July 10th. I still think that it is worth the wait. In the meantime, diet the best that you can as the surgery will be easier if you lose some weight before hand. Good Luck!
  14. Good to hear from you, and CONGRATULATIONS on your success losing 20 pounds!!! I recently got into the "two's" also, and it felt WONDERFUL. I just got approved for my surgery on June 9th and took my class on June 11th. I see the surgeon on July 15th to get a surgery date. It should be late July or Early August. Maybe it will be near my birthday, which is Aug. 7th. The start of a new slimmer life would be a wonderful birhthday gift. I have lost 32 pounds now on the pre-op diet, I am also doing low carb. I just got back from the store, I was stocking up on the things I will need for the liquid diet pre-op. My surgeon requires two weeks of liquid diet pre-op. At times, I get a litte scared, but I meet a woman I used to work with at a support group my surgeon set-up, and both she and her daughter had the surgery. Both said they are thrilled they went the lap band route. My former co-worker lost 65 pounds since Dec. 13, 2007. Keep in touch.

    New 60+ Thread

I was gone out of town to see my grandson play T- ball for a little while, and just wanted to say hello. I am still waiting for insurance approval, and hope to hear soon. The weight clinic sent my records for insurance approval late last week, and I hope to hear this week. I went to my first support group meeting, and found that somewhat helpful. Many people there had bypass - not lap band. I meet a friend there I have not seen in a while, and she lost 67 pounds since December. Wow!

Damienne I think this might help you... I just got back for a gastric surgery support group, and not one person there regrets having surgery. Some just had the surgery, and some had the surgery years ago. Good luck with your decision. In the end you must do want you feel is best for you.

    Colonoscopy: Help!

Sorry, I don't have any advise for you. However, I wanted to wish you good luck with the test. Take care.....
  22. Today I had my last doctor's visit for the six-month supervised diet my health insurance required. I was excited to get my class scheduled and get a surgery date for June. Well, the May class is filled and I can't take a class until June. So, I probaly won't have the surgery until July, or possibly August. Ugh! Also, now they tell me that it's a two week liquid diet before the surgery. I thought they said one week on the liquid diet previously. I am hanging in there, but this had been a long road. GOOD NEWS is I lost 10 pounds this month!!! Looks like I will have sometime to lose some more prior to the surgery.

    Not loosing

Sounds, like you are doing great! Hang it there, and log everything you eat. I use sparkpeople.com (it's free), and it helps be track everything for my low carb 6 month supervised diet pre-surgery. Low carb gets easier after a week or so, as you loss your desire for sweets. I find that I lose weight well when on a low carb, not NO carb, diet. There is a lot of information on the net, just type low carb in any search engine. Fruit really heps me avoid sweets. GOOD LUCK! Please tell me all about the surgery, pre-op and post op diets. I go for my last visit with my family doctor Thursday, and then I should be getting a surgery date soon, so I am very interested.

I think every doctor does something different. My family doctor just said to "eat less and excerise more", than the dietican and surgeon both told me to do low carb. I have now lost almost 30 pounds cutting out sweets, white bread, white rice and potatoes. I wish you well on your journey. Keep in touch.
