Don Congratulations on your surgery. Hang in there you will be feeling much better soon. Keep us informed of your progress. Sorry I have not posted for awhile. I am having some remodeling work done a home and working full time, and I have been trying to get the yard winterized. I have had to move all kinds of things arouund to keep the work done which is great exercise. It feels so good to be able to move easier now that I have lost some weight. Soon I should be able to celebrate 100 pounds lost. I just can't hardly believe it!!

How much so far - total?

I am sorry I have not posted in a while. I mostly post to an age specfic thread on this site, but I wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing that had surgery in August. I have lost a total of 90 pounds with my 6 month pre-op diet, and I lost 45 pounds of that since my surgery date of August 4. 2008. Only 10 pounds to go before I can celebrate a 100 pound weight lose. I feel very confident I can reach my goal. Congratulations to everyone!!!!!!

Hi Everyone Just got back from the doctor's office. I had my first fill today, so I am on clear liquids until this time tomorrow and then to full liquids, soft food, and back to normal food again. The fill was so easy. It was almost done before I knew what happened.

Doing it the Low Carb way

I started low carb April 1st and had my surgery August 4th. I lost 45 pounds prior to my surgery. I think I am a sugar addict, so when I stay away from the bread, cereal, rice, potatoes and sweets I seem to really lose the best. Like someone else said, the lapband diet recommends portien first. Usually I don't have much room for much of anything else.

Hi Everyone Just a quick to update you on my progress. I went for my surgeon's appointment yesterday, and to date I have lost 77 pounds. It almost feels like a miracle to me. I have given away all my old clothes, because I never intend to wear that size again. I still have a lot to lose. but I really feel like I can do this with the band, and support from all of you. I hope everyone else in experiencing this same success. I have been having a little pain at the site of one of my hernia repairs, but they thought it was healing pain. Well I am off to work.

Ma Rosie - Every doctor seems to have a little different diet. I was on a liquid only diet that required I drink three Low Carb Slimfast or Aktins shakes a day for the two weeks before the surgery.

    Newbie to the 60+ group

Hi docsly Good to have you with us here in the 60+ group. I was banded August 4th and I am doing very well. I really don't feel hungry eating such small amounts, and it sure feels great to have all my clothes getting way to big on me. Keep in touch, and let us know how you are doing. Take care.... Karen

    Second Thoughts

Doddie Thanks so much for sharing. I was ordering eggs fixed many ways while on the pre-op diet, because I am trying to do low carb. They also help me to get in enough good protein. I haven't tried a salad yet, since I have only been on regular food two days. I hope to have one this weekend, as I love salads.

    Second Thoughts

I have been doing pretty good on the supervised diet for lap band approval, and think maybe should I just stick with the diet and not the band. I know that having to be accountable when the doc weighs me on the supervised diet is part of that success. Then, I think about another time when I lost a great deal of weight only to gain it back and lots more. That seems to be my biggest problem, I loss and then I gain back. Did anyone else have second thoughts? I only have three more weeks until the supervised diet ends, and then I am told I should have no problem being approved for lap band. :frown:

    Newbie to the 60+ group

Ada Welcome!!! You have found a good place for support. I am 61 and was banded Aug. 4th. I had second thoughts before the surgery, but am vey glad that I did it. I lost about 45 pounds on the pre surgery diet (low carb) and the rest since. I think we grandma's generally do well sticking to the rules, as long as we take it slow.
