    Second Thoughts

I think sometime soon after my last appointment for the six months supervised diet, I will be able to get a surgery date. It seems strange to go thought all of these steps, and not have a date for the surgery. Thanks for all your kind words. :welldoneclap:

    Celebrating

I'm on a low carb diet waiting to get banded, and today I marked 20 pounds lost, and in the TWO's!!!! Having to be accountable during the supervised diet really helps. I was very pleased with myself yesterday. I had a terrible day at work, but stuck to the diet. Normallly, I would treat myself to something very bad for me, because I was so upset, tired and frustrated. On the drive home I just keep telling myself, I needed to do what was best for my health, and eating poorly would not fix the problem.
  6. Hi! Just thought I would pass along my celebration. I passed the 20 pounds lost point on my pre-op diet today. Ive been doing low card. I still have a long way to go, but I am just so pleased to see the scale going down. I am in the Two's for the first time in a very long time. I had a terrible day at work yesteday, and was able to stay motivated and on the diet. How are you doing?

    Any Foodies out there?

I sure am glad to hear from other foodies. I have such a large cookbook collection, love the foodnetwork, and love learning about new food and trying new places to eat. I am waiting to be banded, and decided to use my same interested to try to find healthy, fresh, and quality alternatives. It;s not how much you it, but how WELL you eat.

    Newbie to the 60+ group

Hi Sharon. I sure am glad I found this tread, as we all have a lot in common. Wow! eleven grandkids, that must keep you real busy! I am trying to get use to not drinking with meals, and chewing better. I know I ate way too fast before. I am very sure that was a big part of my problem. Also, I have given up soft drinks. It's been about two weeks, so now it is getting easier to do with out the diet pop. Like I mentioned before, I am also trying to reduce the carbs, especially the refined sugar. Good Luck to you! I've been a widow for 18 years, and live alone, so I don't have to worry about the temptation of brownies baking.

    Newbie to the 60+ group

JoAnn It sounds like we all have a lot in common. My kids were older when they had my grandchildren, so my grandchild are very young. Wish they lived a lot closer. The 4 year old is the closest, and that is a 21/2 hour drive. The 2 , and they help alot! However, I will still need a knee replacement someday. I hope I can take my meds after the lapband, or I will really be in pain. Good luck in your search for a lapband that accepts Medicare!!! Keep in touch.

    Newbie to the 60+ group

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am a grandmother of three wonderful boys who are 2 months old, 3 years old, and 4 years old. I am looking forward to retiring, and have more time to see them. I love to quilt, and I love to cook. I have been busy buying low carb cookbooks, as they tell me they want me on a high protein low carb diet. Sweets are my downfall for sure!!! I welcome any suggestion for a good tested low carb cookbook. I was heavy all my adult life, but I had a bad fall a few years ago and fractured my back. I really gained the weight after that, as it was difficult to do much of anything. I have problems with my knees, and ankles and my back. So I really need to loss 150 pounds so I can keep mobile. I am counting on everyone here for support. It's great to know I am not alone.

    Surgery Tomorrow!!!!

Good Luck! Take it a day at a time, and you will suceed.
  14. Thanks JWGR Yes, I am fine. Of course, I am concerned about the liquid diet and mushes stage. It's short term so I know I can do it, one day at a time. The doctor also says he wants me off all sweets - that will be harder. Honestly that is my big downfall. I welcome any suggestions on how anyone else handled the no sweets. When did you have your surgery?
  15. I meet the surgeon for the first time today, and he said I would be on a liquid diet for one week prior to surgery.
  16. Renee I hope you are feeling well. I imagine you are on the liquid diet now. Keep me posted on how you progress. Hey, maybe I will see you at a support group meeting one day. Sounds like Dr. Stanish is very well liked. I have been very impressed with all of the staff, and the program.

    Newbie in Indiana

I plan to attend to the local support group. Thanks for the advise.
  21. Hi ! I just found this site, and the timing is great. I see my surgeon on Tuesday, and he is the final approval I need for lap band. I am eager, and a little nervous. I think that the liquid diet will be the hardest part. Sounds like this group can answer lots of questions and give lots of support. Is there any one else here from Northwest Indiana?:biggrin2:
