I am soooo upset. BCBS of IL denied me because of my therapist report. They said I have too many stressors. My therapist put some inaccurate information. His wording was all wrong. I have a copy of the report and I am not happy. Has anyone ever dealt with this and anyone have information in how or what I can do about appealing this? I'm not sure if I should just get a new psychological evaluation or if that would even work. I've been seeing my therapist and I feel like he is biased and I just should not have had him do it in the first place. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

Hi everyone! I am in the appeal process and extremely hopeful. 5'1", right now around 212lb, 5 spine surgeries, last back surgery failed and left me with extreme pain and nerve damage. My pain doctor told me that my weight is causing a good portion of the pain. Is there anyone out there that has had relief from pain after losing the weight? I can't lose weight because I cannot even tolerate long walks. I just had another RFA (nerve ablation) in the lower right side of my back and the pain that comes after is unreal. I have mine on November 14th and she told me I have to come the first time to talk and the 2nd time to take tests. Like answer questions. And if I want to know how she evaluated me then I have to Come for a 3rd visit, which I probably will do or I'll stress myself to death. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

Congratulations on your weight loss! The meds I take have no NSAID's in them. I take opana, which is oxymorphone in the generic form. I googled it and it's fine. I have no side effects and do not feel weird when I take my pain meds. I will not take OxyContin ever again. I can't remember anything l, plus oxymorphone is a lot stronger. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

It really is an easy process with an easy approval if you meet the requirements, 40 BMI or above, any chronic conditions, and a psych evaluation. They have you do the preop blood work and ekg, and then submit. When I went for my initial visit I saw the nutritionist and that was the only time I had to see her. If my therapist wouldn't have did the crazy job on the letter I would already have a surgery date. Just irritated because I already met my out of pocket so everything would be at 100% if I have it this year. But it's probably not going to be until next year at this rate. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

Hey Walter, I admire your strength. You have conquered so many battles. Have you considered therapy and the possibility you may need medication for depression? It all changed my life. I'm in the appeal process because my insurance denied my surgery because of my therapists psych evaluation. He screwed it all up but is in the process of talking to the insurance company. A blunt would have made me feel better. Honestly, but I didn't do it. Anyway, take a breath and please go to a meeting and maybe explore the options I talked about!!! You got this man! Best wishes! It normally has to go back to the surgeons desk, which took 2 1/2 weeks, then has to be submitted to your insurance company for pre-authorization. That can usually take anywhere from 15-30 days for approval depending on your insurance company. After that the office will schedule if you are approved. That's my doctors office process, but it could be different at yours. I would call and ask if you aren't sure. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

He is my regular therapist since 2013. Smh. I thought he would do a descent job. He conveyed I have no support, too many stressors and might be non compliant after surgery. Where he got that from idk. But he is correcting it. I am also getting a non biased new psych evaluation with a psychologist that my surgeons office uses just in case they don't approve after he talks to my ins company. I was so pissed at first. It was my psych evaluation. My therapist gave a lot of incorrect information. He's calling them to do peer to peer review to get it corrected. If he tells the truth there should not be a problem getting them to approve. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

I'm so sorry. Men act very strange when they don't know how to handle their emotions. Talk to him and ask him if he's ok. Then tell him how you feel without fussing at him. Tell him what you need. Ask him if he can give you what you need. He may have an issue with hospitals. Some people just cannot handle going to the hospital. Some people don't do well when loved ones are ill. But if you plan on having babies with this man one day he will have to get it together. Be sure not to Make assumptions and give him a chance to open up to you. Sometimes we have to handle our men with white gloves. Now if he doesn't see anything wrong with his behavior you need to get rid of him. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

It could be worse. Be glad it's just a 3 month wait. Time will fly by. My therapist did a terrible and inaccurate psych evaluation and my insurance company denied the surgery. Now I am starting the appeal process. I wish I just had to wait 3 months. Best wishes! Dotty Cole

My first visit I spent talking to the surgeon, then the nutritionist, and then the coordinator for lack of a better word. She gave me a folder with papers in it and told me everything I needed to do and answered the rest of my questions and has been my contact person every since. That was pretty much it. From that appointment I was sent to the hospital for upper gi, blood work, and ekg. My ekg wasn't right so I had to go to the cardiologist for clearance. I did all of that and then had to get the psych evaluation. My therapist messed up my evaluation and I got denied just 2 days ago. So we are working to get it approved. So after talking to my therapist, doctors office and insurance company the first thing is my therapist that did my evaluation is going to do a peer to peer and explain how he miscommunicated information. Tomorrow I am scheduling a new psych evaluation with a non biased doc that specializes in bariatric psych evaluations and my docs office will use it to appeal. My therapist just did terrible. He was very apologetic today and ever and told me he was so sorry for the miscommunication. So I am sensing no him an email in the morning so he can fix this. I only get 2 appeals so the peer to peer doesn't count as one. I was trying to get everything done quickly to get it submitted to insurance and my gut told me to just go to the psychologist my doctors office recommended. When will I start listening to my gut!!! You should definitely be fine. And you will feel better and sleep better too. I love in GA so it's not legal here yet, but I have to take pain meds for the rest of my life because of my spine and bad nerve damage and failed surgery. My pain management doctor told me I should get rid of the pills and smoke a blunt and it should be legal anyway. I would definitely do it but my husband is against it. My doc told me that it's so much better than the pills and better than my health and I would definitely feel better and not be in so much pain. A girl can dream ... Best wishes! Dotty Cole

I talked to my therapist today. He apologized and now he is going to call my insurance company and clarify. He was really bothered that he caused the denial.
