August Sleevers-How are you doing??
BigAussieGirl replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm terrified as well, I'm going to try and stay away from alcohol, I know if I have one or two - I'll lose control of my calorie in take. I usually love Christmas but I'm starting to feel anxious about it. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
BigAussieGirl replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is anyone else worried about their calorie/food intake over Christmas? We tend to have a massive Christmas Eve dinner and then a massive Christmas day lunch and then more food on Boxing day. I'm going to do my best to have tiny portions to try and stay on track, but I'm worried as I've got my follow up appointment in mid Jan and I still need to drop 3 kg to meet my goal. -
Meds for chronic conditions
BigAussieGirl replied to Maggie1955's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on medication for seizures and bipolar. My Doc's didn't want me to miss any of my medication. I took them the morning off my surgery with a tiny sip or water and then the following morning the medication was cut in half for me. No problems taking them. Good luck! -
When did you go back to work after weight loss surgery?
BigAussieGirl replied to TexasMommy80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work in an office, I was given 2 weeks off, and to be honest I could have gone back after a few days. Everyone is different and the type of work you do would make a huge difference. -
I'd love to have snow for Christmas. It's 40 degree C (105 F) today and its still only December, it usually gets hotter in Feb / March ... urgggh. Take care my Northern Hemisphere friends.

Anxiety meds before weight loss surgery?
BigAussieGirl replied to VSGnewguy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I struggle with anxiety and took a couple of zanax the night before and morning of my surgery. The anesthetist supported my decision. I had discussed it prior to my surgery with my surgeon and psychiatrist. Just have a chat to your surgeon about it, you'll be fine. -

My weight loss had slowed a few months ago and I was having a long stall, I spoke to my dietitian who recommended I increase my calories to 800 - 1000 per day. I was apprehensive to do so, but thought I'd give it a go, since then my weight loss has increased and been quiet steady. Since increasing my calories I also find I have more energy and feel generally better. -
About 5 weeks from the first appointment until surgery. Its pretty straight forward in Australia, no insurance hoops to jump through. It could have been sooner but I wanted to wait a couple more weeks to thing it all through.

etc. etc etc - congrat's on the 100 pound loss. That's a terrific result. I can't wait until I get there as well. I'm currently down 42 kg (93 pounds), hopefully I get there before my next appointment with my Dr in mid January. I'm a bit worried though as there has been to many xmas parties and xmas treats which aren't helping me get towards my goals. It's starting to warm up here, Monday is the first hot day for the summer and forecast to hit 40 degrees (about 105 F). As a bigger person the heat has always bothered me, hopefully I can continue to drop weight this summer before it really warms up come Feb/March. Have a great weekend August sleevers.. -

Stick at it, it sounds like your doing everything right, I'm sure the stall will break soon. 60 lb weight loss is excellent. Good luck! -

December is a tough month, so many Christmas parties, and with the weather being warmer, more social occasions going on in general. I'm still hoping to drop 5 kg's this month but its looking unlikely at this stage. I've done a disc in my back so I can't go to the gym or walk at the moment so that's not helping. I'm trying to keep the long term goal in mind and not get too disheartened, over these short term set backs. Overall life is good. Keep up the great work August sleevers! -
You know you lost weight when

For the first time in years you buy a top from the 'normal' section not the plus size section in Target. -

Its great to see everyone's progress. Mine is slow and steady, but I'm ok with that. I'm a big girl, so I have a lot to lose, so slow a steady is the way to go. Keep up the great work! -

Thanks for posting the weight loss table. Interesting to read. Everyone is having some great results keep up the good work August sleevers! -
Hi I was sleeved 21st August by Dr Teague at Ashford Hospital. He was awesome and the pre-op and post care was fantastic. My costs were $3000. I cant happily say I've lost nearly 40 kg. My first appointment was at the end of June and we booked in the surgery on my second appointment. Getting sleeved was the best decision I've made in my life. Good luck with your surgery.

My weigh in day is Sunday and this week I lost another 0.5 kg (1.1 pound). It seems to be the norm for me now. Now that the days are getting longer, there is enough sunlight in the morning to go for a walk before work. So that's the plan moving forward, hopefully the extra exercise will increase the weight loss. I'd really like to loose 1 kg a week. But hey, I'm not complaining I'll take what ever loss I get. I had a meeting with my NUT yesterday and it was good to get the main points reiterated to me again. I need to focus on my protein to make sure that is on track, which can only help. Enjoy the rest of your weekend August sleevers -
PHI + Out of Pocket expenses? Which fund is best?
BigAussieGirl replied to Sass555's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It will all depend on how much your surgeon charges, each surgeon if different. My costs were $3000 out of pocket plus my $250 excess. The surgeon fee's are separate from the hospital cover which your health insurance pays for. Good luck -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
BigAussieGirl replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The last time I went on a plane flight was very embarrassing, I was exploding out of the seat and needed a seat belt extender. That was a few years ago and I haven't flown since. I've set my goals on going to Hawaii the middle of next year, so now I just need to drop the weight to make flying comfortable. I'm hoping if I can drop 1 kg a week between now and then, the flight should be ok. I've had a bit of a stall the last couple of weeks, so starting today I'm going to go back on the protein shakes and focus on exercise... hopefully this will start the weight loss again. -

Today I jumped on the scales and I've hit 35 kg lost (77 pounds). I did a little happy dance, I've gone down 1-2 sizes on my tops, but none on my pants (although my pants are getting baggy!) And I've gone down 1 size in my shoes - which I didn't expect at all. I'm convinced this surgery was the right decision. -

I love reading about everyone's success and its great to have a place to vent our struggles with those who understand. What I find interesting is how different everyone's diet/meal plan restrictions are. My Dr was pretty easy going and a 7 weeks I could eat anything I wanted, I've had no problems with salad, raw veggies or meat. its interesting to read that other have been told to wait months before having steak, veggies etc. Follow your plan and the weight will come off. Keep up the great work team August! -

I had my surgery on 21st August and today I had my first salad. I've really missed being able to eat salad's and I'm so over soft and mushy food. With the weather getting warmer I'm really glad to be able to eat salad's again. I had no problems at all with the raw veggies. Hopefully the low calorie count in salads with increase the weight loss as well. Have a great weekend August sleevers! -
