    Hair loss

I feel your pain. I’ve always had thinner Swedish type hair. I had hair loss. Noticeable. It has stopped and is regrowing. It’s about 2-3 inches regrown and I have a fuzzy hair halo. It’s not pretty but it’s coming back. I had my surgery 11/27/17.

    Serving Sizes Post Surgery

I should say my surgery was 11/27/17. But I have consistently been working out from 1 month post op (Crossfit, spin, boxing, Pilates) and I have been eating more than the recommended portions at each phase. So far it has worked for me up until these last 15lbs :)

    Serving Sizes Post Surgery

I’m eating way more than that (grain bowls, rice bowls, etc etc about 1/2 portion sized for a typical restaurant). I also exercise heavily and run 10 mile obstacle races. I even eat carbs for energy for races and workouts. The doctor confirmed that my diet is working for me. Right now my weight loss has slowed to a crawl so I’m thinking about adjusting to paleo or smaller portions to get these last 15lbs. How often have you gotten sick?

I never threw up and I never got the foamies. I get dumping syndrome sometimes which manifests as hot flashes and a stomach ache if I eat too much or have too much sugar.

    Lifting weight after surgery

My doctor said I couldn’t lift anything more than 10lbs for the first few weeks and to only hold things close to my chest. I had help with groceries and the like my first few weeks. I was cleared to go back to full on weight lifting (I’m a crossfitter) after 4 weeks. I hit a PR of a 280lb deadlift shortly after 4 weeks.

    Pre-Op Concerns

I’m not sure if the larger stomach still produces stomach acid but my GERD was cured so if it does it doesn’t seem to be effecting me. I use the take care of vitamin subscription. https://takecareof.com/

    Pre-Op Concerns

I had a gastric bypass and it cured my acid reflux. My poop smells better than before. What’s weird is it doesn’t really smell like poop. Perhaps it’s more like stomach acid? I use a vitamin subscription service and my levels are normal. I take my vitamins everyday and rarely miss a dose. For me it’s been the best decision of my life. I’m healthier and happier. I think it does make a difference that I researched my doctor and hospital and went with a center of excellence and a doctor with no serious complications and very few non serious complications. Good luck with your surgery! HW 227 SW 221 11/27/18 GW1 184 GW2 154 CW 154 GW3 135

Older Patient: will my skin sag?

45 years old. 227lbs to 153lbs currently. My arms are fine. My inner thigh skin is just a bit loose but not noticeable. My tummy on the other hand has loose skin. My goal weight is 135lbs and I’ll consider surgery to correct the skin when I get there. But totally worth it! I’m so much happier now. :)

    Something weird started happening ....

Being flushed/hot is a symptom of dumping syndrome. Drink slower and it should go away. I get flushed/hot if I eat or drink too fast or eat the wrong things.

    No Longer Overweight!

I’m so excited to share that I’m no longer overweight. This surgery has been the best decision of my life. I have had a few stalls so for those of you in a stall hang in there! I pretty much eat what I want except high sugar foods, rice and bread. I work out 3-5 times a week at Equinox. I do spin, Pilates and boxing. I’m 20 lbs away from my goal weight and fitting into size 8 and medium clothes. One thing I’m trying to do is avoid designers and stores that don’t have plus size clothing. They didn’t want my business when I was a size 18 so they don’t get it now. Good luck to everyone going through this process! HW 227 SW 221 - 11/27/17 GW1 185 - bye bye obese! Preop

I really liked the protein fruit juice and soup options available through the BariatricPal store. I had a very hard time getting protein shakes down and found these alternatives to be much better. I particularly liked the creamed chicken and cream or mushroom soups and the orange, pineapple and grapefruit juices.

    Almost under 200lbs!

Congratulations! New clothes for the new figure!

    No Longer Overweight!

Pink Nova - There are some foods that will trigger my food coma. The way dumping syndrome manifests for me is that I get hot and flushed, a tummy ache and then I lie down and pass out for 1-4 hours depending on how bad the offense was. Most bread does that except potato bread for some reason. I can always eat 4 bites of anything and risk a very mild reaction.

Good stuff is starting to happen!

    Congratulations! That’s great news Matt!
  22. I’m so happy with this surgery. I’ve given up coffee, fizzy drinks and sugary foods (except for small bites here and there). I feel a lot healthier and happier. It’s been 6 months and I’ve lost just over 70 lbs. I have no regrets except I wish I did it sooner. This guy is amazing!!

I like what my doctor had to say. People think that it’s an issue of self control. It’s not. After yo-yo dieting (encouraged by the media) you eventually break your system. This last time I dieted and exercised but the scale didn’t move. It was so discouraging. My hormones had changed. My metabolism had changed. This surgery helps reverse that. We have positive hormonal effects that doctors can’t explain. Almost all patients report feeling happier and healthier. I talk about the surgery all the time and let people ask questions. No one has dared tell me I took the easy way out. This surgery should be publicized more (oh wait - that would be detrimental to the huge diet industry). Just my two cents. No one has dared to tell me I took the easier way out. But if they do I’m ready to explain to them why that view is wrong.

    Feeling Hungry & Freaked out

I was hungry right after surgery and had 10 ounces of liquids. My nurse freaked out by the surgeon was happy. Any liquids I could tolerate was just fine for her. I stalked on week two of my weight loss for a whole week. Ate the end of the mushy phase I was sick and tired of mush and a bit like “WILL IT BE LIKE THIS FOREVER?” Fast forward 4 1/2 months and I’m down 60lbs and counting with several stalls. I basically eat what I can tolerate but just very small amounts. I’m happy and think this is the best decision of my life! Don’t worry! The weight will come off. The process will work. You’ve got this. HW 227 SW 221 - 11/27/17 GW1 185 - bye bye obese CW 167 GW2 154 - bye bye overweight GW3 135

    stall in weight loss

I’m in a stall right now. I’ve had 3 of them and my first was just after week two of surgery. Just think logically. You are eating way fewer calories. The weight will eventually come off.
