How long were you off work post-op?

I had my surgery 11/27 and was back to work 12/11. The first week back at work I was very tired by the end of the day. I left around 4pm each day.

What to Bring to the Hospital

I brought comfy pants which I didn’t use because my hospital provided pants. I was in a two person room and roomie got there first and controlled the tv the whole time. I just used my phone instead to watch what I wanted. I didn’t shower the next day cause hospital shower didn’t look appealing. I showered when I got home. I was glad I didn’t pack heavy because I didn’t need any of it.
  5. I showered the following morning after I got home from the hospital.

    Question on Feelings of hunger

I am almost 2 months post op and I’m not very hungry at all. There are days where I down right don’t want to eat (have a sort of slight nausea). When I do want to eat it is very little. The though of sweets makes me gag. Even my pre op favorite popcorn and butter is only sometimes appealing. My taste has changed too. I crave lighter, juicier and more acidic foods. Think salad, watermelon, tomato soup. Before I loved cream sauces, heavy starches and ice cream. Surgery 11/27/17 height 5’6” HW: 227 SW: 221 CW: 192 GW: 130

    Going back to work

I returned to work after 2 weeks. The third week I was very tired and left work around 4pm. Week four I was back to normal energy. After 5 weeks I was back to full on exercising at Crossfit.

You’re almost through the worst of it! You’re energy level returns (for me about 1 month out). You got this! Surgery 11/27/17 HW: 227 SW: 221 CW: 193 GW: 130

    Struggling with aversion

I couldn’t do the protein shakes so I bought protein soup and protein fruit drinks which went down much easier. I bought them in the BariatricPal store. Have you tried those?

    Recovery Time

I was back to work after 2 weeks but tired at the end of the day. At three weeks I felt I had energy back. I was full on exercising 4 weeks out (Crossfit).
  15. Surgical glue is meant to stay on 5-10 days. You should be ok.

    Afraid to eat

I suggest trying new foods when you know you will be at home for a few hours. Then take one or two small bites. Give it 15-20 minutes. If you don’t feel wonky, enjoy the new food! For me dumping syndrome is an upset stomach and then I lie down and fall asleep for 1-3 hours. I don’t throw up or have diarrhea (thankfully). So far the foods that has really upset my stomach is bread (something we are not suppose to eat anyway) and anything with too much sugar (again, something we are not suppose to eat).

    1 month post op! [emoji76]

Congratulations! Seems like we both had our surgeries around the same time. I just completed my 5 week checkup as well. HW 227 SW 221 CW 195 I’ve also experienced dumping syndrome but I experience it differently. I get a tummy ache then I lay down and fall asleep anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on how bad it is. Bread did me in the worst. I’ve been able to tolerate most other foods in small doses though; wings, ice cream, pop corn with butter, pizza, pasta dishes etc etc. I’ve started exercising again doing cardio in the mornings and Crossfit in the afternoons although exercise was never my problem...

    Salads?

I had a salad of greens, beets and feta with green goddess dressing 1 month out with no ill effects. My advice is the try new things on the weekend if you work just in case. Also take a small bite or two and see if you feel wonky. If not, enjoy!

7 days post op and i am kicked while down

I bought the variety pack to keep it interesting. I liked all of them; cream of chicken, tomato, chicken, beef and cream of mushroom. The “cream” of soups were not really “cream” and fine during the liquid phase.

    Puree stage question

Yes. I “cheated” all the way through the stages by starting the next stage earlier than recommended. My doctor even told me that some people do this and that as long as I tested the food with a small bite or two and I was fine I could eat what I tolerated. I even cheated the first night after surgery lol. Dinner came (tea, soup and jello) and I ate it all over the next few hours (10oz). The nurse freaked out but the surgical resident said it was fine as long as my stomach tolerated it. So my advice is to take a small bite or two and see what you can tolerate.

I would recommend the protein fruit drinks like grapefruit or orange. I also recommend protein soups which were quite good. You can get them from the store on this site. Also the protein hot chocolate was yum. I also had a hard time with the protein shakes. Good luck!
