    Slightly freaking iut

I lost 15 lbs then right before surgery I gained back 9lbs (it was my last thanksgiving with old stomach!). It was no problem. My surgeon said that some people don’t lose anything and that wasn’t a problem either. In fact, it’s a reason we get this surgery. Other methods (diet and exercise) haven’t worked for us.

Did you go home with a drain?

    I didn’t have one. Just 5 small incisions. HW - 227 SW - 221 (11/27/17) GW1 - 185 - bye bye obese CW - 170 GW2 - 154 - bye bye overweight GW3 - 135

    Constipation

A bidet was life changing for me
  4. I have had the same issue but have still lost weight. I was able to take in 10 ounces of liquid my first day out of surgery. It scared the nurse and she called the surgical resident who said as long as I can tolerate it I’m fine. At each phase I could eat more than expected (but still a hell of a lot less than I used to eat). I’ve always exercised though I’m not sure if this has made a difference. Crossfit for 9 years and now I’m into spin, Pilates, yoga and the like and use Equinox gym. HW: 227 SW: 221 - 11/27/17 GW1: 185 - goodbye obese CW: 174 GW2: 154 - goodbye overweight GW3: 135 5’6”

    Hiatle hernia

I had a hiatal hernia. The doctor said he would fix it if it was big enough. Apparently it was big enough and he fixed it. My recovery has been normal and pretty easy. I was on pain meds for 5 days. I felt fine after that just lower energy for the first 3 weeks after surgery. I started exercising full on 4 weeks after surgery (Crossfit/equinox). This has been the best decision of my life even though towards the end of the mushy phase I was hating life a bit. My god......what have I done?

I had the same thoughts towards the end of the liquid mushy phase. I just had had enough and thought, “will this be my life? This sucks!” But I pushed through and slowly it gets better and better and now I’m so happy I did this. The pounds keep coming off without much effort and I’m enjoying food again (albeit in smaller amounts). HW 227 SW 221 - 11/27/17 GW1 185 CW 181 GW2 154 GW3 135 5’6”

    Protein

I had a very hard time with protein shakes. I much preferred protein soup, protein fruit drinks and protein hot chocolate. I got them all on BariatricPal.

Constipation to the max - two a&e visits

I’m a big fan of my bidet. The water works wonders. I got mine for 45$ and they are easy to install.

6lbs away from knowing I made it...

Congratulations on your weight loss! You’re doing great! I can totally relate to wanting to see a certain number. For me it was hitting 185 which brought me out of obese and into overweight. It felt great to hit that number but it definitely took a bunch of stalls to get there. It helps to have a mindset of “if I don’t gain, I’m winning”. So if the scale doesn’t move up but it also doesn’t move down I’m not disappointed. Good luck to you and I hope you hit your magic number soon!

    Obese to Overweight

I’m super excited to share that I just crossed over from obese to overweight this morning. Weight loss goal 1 achieved. On to the next goal which is to hit normal range. I’m buying jeans in size 14 and tops in XL and I couldn’t be more pleased! I’m so happy, I just wanted to share. Also, for those of you in a stall, don’t worry. It eventually comes off. I stalled 2 1/2 weeks after surgery for almost 2 weeks (it was a real bummer). HW 227 SW 221 - 11/27/17 CW 185 G1 185 G2 154 G3 135 5’6”

    Sleep Requirements have Changed!

I’m wondering if you had sleep apnea that cleared up after you lost weight. Did you ever get tested?
  15. I had many last supper moments before surgery (it was thanksgiving!!) I gained 7lbs. So far it’s three months out from surgery and my tastes have changed and I’m down 42lbs. So don’t worry!! You got this.

    Lite yellow stool

Yes! I have had the yellow foamy stool for the first 2 1/2 months. It’s just started to go back to normal unless I eat something that doesn’t agree with me.

    Dumping syndrome

Bread, too much food of any kind, rice and pasta. My dumping syndrome manifest by me getting too hot, getting a bad tummy ache and then lying down and falling asleep for 1-3 hours.

    Obese to Overweight

My doctor told me that at my starting weight 75% will achieve 170lbs. 50% will achieve 150lbs and 25% will achieve 130lbs. Since I’ve maintained just under 135lbs in the past, I’m using this as my final goal but believe me when I say I’ll be extremely happy anywhere in the 150lbs - 135lbs range.

Dumping - did you take any tests?

No but I’ve figured out pretty quick to introduce foods on the weekend when I’m at home. The way my dumping syndrome manifests is that I get hot, I get a tummy ache and I lay down and fall asleep for 1-3 hours. HW 227 SW 221 CW 187 GW 135 5’6” Surgery 11/27/17
  20. I was never sleeved but only had bypass. My hunger has decreased and am not thinking about food all the time. I eat 3 meals and 1 or 2 snacks. Also, my tastes have changed from liking creamy fat filled foods and starches to liking more acidic or juicy type foods (think tomato soup, salad, fruit). So it was a definite win in my mind. Tofu and pesto all good until...

Lol! I used to love White Castle burgers until I tried them again post surgery. I can’t eat them now.

Time off work and telling co-workers?

I took two weeks off and the third week I worked 7 hours instead of 8. The third week I was tired. I told my coworkers and boss I was having a gastric bypass. Everyone was very supportive.

    No-No Foods

Bread (sometimes rice, sometimes pasta). If I eat bread, I get a stomach ache then lay down and pass out. If I eat too much, same thing.
  24. heatherjudson

    Late dumping syndrome

I get the hot flashes and sleepiness when I eat too many carbs or too much at once. I am particularly sensitive to bread. If I eliminate certain foods or eat in smaller batches it helps stave off dumping syndrome.

    Post op Vitamins (Toronto Western)

I bought the vitamin patches through the BariatricPal store. They worked well. Now that I can tolerate pills I use take care of which is a vitamin subscription. I pay about $35 a month and they are delivered to me.
