I was sleeved 11/8 and I won't be cleared (hopefully) until 11/29 for puree foods. Then I am on that 3-4 weeks before soft foods. Then 3-4 weeks before slowly introducing regular foods. So about 3 months or so out, I will be able to start regular foods. Seems all surgeons and programs are different.

Good luck!! I took a thin snap front housecoat/bathrobe type item to wear over hospital gown when you are walking so your back side doesn't show Undies, toothbrush/paste, mouthwash, CHAPSTICK! you are sooo dry after surgery, handcream, comb or brush. My hospital gave us these slipper socks with rubber for walking but I had packed socks and slip on soft sneakers for walking. Didn't need them. I brought a book, my Ipad. Didn't open either one. When I wasn't walking, I really was resting. I didn't even watch TV. My sis and my hubby came up a couple times to visit. Then you are getting visits from nurses and drs. I was in hospital 2 days and it really went by very fast. You'll do great!

OH GOOD FOR YOU! congrats and congrats on the puree foods! I envy you that egg!!! I need to go till 29th. I cannot wait. This is not HEAD hunger I feel, it's REAL hunger. Good luck with the puree foods!

You know I had that...really really bad pain in between my breasts. THAT'S where your new stomache is. We always think it's like below our ribs. I figured out that mine will what I call seize up if I am super hungry. Terrible awful pain. So that's why sometimes I make a yogurt with protein powder in it (like PB protein powder) and thin it with a little water. Just to put something THICKER than LIQUID in it. That seems to do the trick. Like I wake up every morning with that pain cuz I'm starving. I can't wait for puree foods!!! Good luck but just be careful in case it's not your new tummy.

OK I had a bit of a setback. I am lactose intolerant. Been for years. I tried many products before surgery and they sat ok with me. Typically Whey Isolate is ok VS the other whey. Greek yogurt typically doesn't bother me but non-greek does. Well....I had pure diarrhea early this morning for at least 3 hours non stop. I KNOW I cannot afford to lose liquid like that. I'll get dehydrated. I have not yet managed to get to 64 oz or more a day. I thought I would be able to no problem but I cannot yet. SO....I decided to go back to liquids for today and kinda reset my gut. I asked my nurse if I could become MORE lactose intolerant and she said absolutely. So no dairy, whey, yogurt or even lactose free milk for me today. I'm FREAKIN STARVING. At least I'm getting my liquids in! I am BEYOND ready to move to puree stage. I can't until after Nov 29th meeting with surgeon. At least then I can get in chicken and fish for protein and not rely so much on dairy products. This NOTHING but some form of dairy for almost a week was my downfall today. I will try at least ONE meal with protein drink tomorrow see how I feel. I'm terrified of losing what little hair I have left so I need that protein. As far as incisions, nothing has ever pained or hurt me. I walked my dogs daily. Yesterday I did 3 miles. Slower than normal but 3. Today I did a shorter one because (a) I'm back working and (b) I almost felt like I had low blood sugar from not eating. Nov 29th...HURRY!!

I work from home as well. Today was my first day back, sleeved on 11/8, I did ok but I'm glad I have just tomorrow before some days off. I think when I start working a 5 day stretch, it's going to be very trying & I'll be wishing I could nap!!

Best wishes Lady83!!! you got this!

I don't have any of this at all. BUT...I just asked my husband if he could help me with the stuff left over from the taping on the bandages. I think I may be allergic to it. I have a pretty good rash going on and one started. All in the area where the tape glue is. It's my biggest incision..the one they took the stomach out from and put the drain in. So it had a bigger bandage on it. The other ones just had glue. I just can't see it good enough to get on my own. I want to try to get that excess glue off before I'm a big huge rash!!! Only an itching now an again on a healing smaller incision. No pain, no burning. Keep track of that burning esp if it changes color or oozes.

oh no that is NOT good. You should tell your team. I have liquid tylenol but have not needed it. My surgeon has me on Prilosec for months. I have to open the pull and put the beads in sugar free applesauce or yogurt & have that each day. He told me we have the same acid being produced with a smaller stomache so this is to keep the acid at bay so that the staple line etc heals. I would def tell my team about that. Also, start sipping constantly. You need to hydrate. My nurse told me it was more important at this stage than trying to get in the protein. That a whole host of things can happen if we get dehydrated. Good luck...I iwouldn't take anymore of that.

I think it's a good thinkgto be on the liquid diet. I was sleeved 2 days before you and don't think my gut would handle digesting anything but. I think our poor stomachs just need to heal. Even though I WANT to eat so bad! People told me that my taste would change....and yup it has. I normally, in a course of former tummy, drank 80-100 ozs of water a day. Now my new stomach doesn't even LIKE plain water. I get cramps. But I can have vitamin water. Go figure. I just dilute it half and half. This is what I'm doing to get around not being able to tolerate stuff in order to get in protein and liquids. For my meals, I sometimes have hot tea with unflavored protein. I bought Genpro from AMazon. Not cheap but gives 30 grams per scoop. I mix it with a little bit of water to thin paste consistancy then I add it to my hot tea. I will also do this with bone broth. Just make sure you mix it FIRST. I have Unjury unflavored but have not tried it yet. MOST people rave about the Unjury chicken soup flavored one. When I feel I need to "eat" vs drink, I will mix 1/4 cup 0 or 2% plain fage yogurt with a scoop of Inspire peanutbutter cup. I will add a tablespoon or so to thin it a bit. That gives me at least 26 grams protein. Hope some of these ideas help you.

Good for you! get those ounces in!! I keep a water right next to my bed and I don't necessarily sip all night but I sip quite a few times. yeah ....I think our guts are hungry!!! LOL!

YES! Right inbetween my breasts. It's like my stomach is seizing up. We all think our stomach is the middle of our body but it's actually up higher. It does that when I've gone a long time without drinking protein (what I call eating LOL) or liquids. Like middle of the night when you've been sleeping 5 hours. A few nights I actually got up and took some sips of protein drink or had some yogurt. My nurse told me not to do that. But jeez...there have been times in my life before surgery where I have been STARVING during the night and couldn't sleep till I had a yogurt or oatmeal or toast or something. I feel it's no different.

It's so funny you say that about your bladder. I have always drank alot of water (and funny that my new tummy hates plain water STILL). Always peeing. But not volumes of pee, just pee and yes rushing to go. Now....I go alot but NOT AS MUCH. Don't have to rush and MORE comes out in a good stream. I was thinking to myself....I should have been catheratized a long time ago if this is the outcome! It's good news. WHO KNEW???? LOL As far as coffee black...ick. I just put in a bit of Fairlife 2% milk. It's lactose free. And the 2% is as creamy as creamer. you only need a bit. On a side note....we can have SF popsicles. Can we also have SF fudgicles? I think yes.

You know Tink, you can try the soft foods. I would start with something you like that you have had before and just a tiny bit of it and chew chew chew chew before you swallow. Just eat a bit and see how things go. If you have nausea or cramping or anything, got back to clear liquids for the next meal or two and try again. Just because they say you can doesn't mean you HAVE to or that you're new belly will get on with it.. Eventually we all want to get to the point where we are "normal". Very small portions but pretty much normal. It's not a race for sure. Even on just full liquids, sometimes the protein shakes get to me and I do simple clears for a meal to settle myself. I was already lactose intolerant and I fear I've become MORESO. My nurse told me the other that it's extremely possible. So baby steps. You know your body better than anyone else. Just start small especially if you are fighting nausea still. good luck and keep us posted!! it's a journey we are all on!

I was sleeved 11/8 and I am on only full liquids until 11/29. I cannot wait to get on puree foods. Other than broths, teas, waters, protein shakes, Vitamin water, jello, popsicles, about the only thing I can have right now with any substance is yogurt and I take full advantage of that. I'm not sure if they took enough of the grehlin part of my stomache out. Cuz I get mighty hungry and it's not head hunger (have that alot too) but true my gut flipping around hunger. So I will take a scoop of protein mix and swirl it into 1/4 cup of yogurt with some water to thin and eat that to feel like I'm eating something! My next step is puree foods then soft foods. Soft foods are scrambled eggs n cheese, soft fishes, tender chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese, RICOTTA BAKE I can't wait to eat that! LOL! good luck

I weighed NINE POUNDS more when I got home than when I got in. I'm now 3 lbs below my going in weight. So down 3 lbs overall. They told me not to weigh myself for 2 weeks. But...weighers gotta weigh weigh weigh LOL
-
I was going to say the same thing. Make sure you can take in water, broth, tea, jello. That type of thing. Then if you can, try protein with one meal. you can even get the unflavored protein (Genpro or Unjury) and add it to broth or tea. This is what I do when I cannot stand to drink another shake. I also will take 1/4 cup plain 0% Fage greek yogurt and add a scoop of unflavored protein and a tablespoon of sugar free pudding (vanilla or chocolate). I add some water and then I take my time eating that. Just go slow. We'll all get there. good luck

My surgeon would have cancelled. I know that stinks...but...it's major surgery. So you DO want to feel your best. Sometimes you feel like you've been run over by a truck, others do fine. There is no telling. I had to report to my surgeon the minute I got sick. It's worth a call to him to know your options. Good luck to you.

OK...one premier protein drink is 11 oz and 30 grams protein. I think that I can fit about half that in at a time. So drinking two of these a day (4 meals) will give me 60 grams protein. The bare minimum. I don't think we are supposed to be drinking protein drinks ALL the time. Like more than MEALS. Right? So I shouldn't be sipping on protein drinks during the day but more of water type items? Broth? I'm really confused because I just can't get it all in.

GOOD LUCK!

I wonder if the gout is from the amount of protein we need to take in? Though the protein isn't from like steak it's whey. Hmmm. Feel better!!!
-
HAHA! I love that you named your new sleeve Beatrice. I need to think of a name and talk nicer to her. Cuz she is giving me fits today! I think my protein drink this morning was just too much lactose. I waited and waited and now that the rest of me is bloated with the lactose gas, I took a lactose pill. I'm struggling with protein AND water today. I usually only drink water, but my new stomach HATES water! So I'm going to try to do a vitamin water. I need the vitamins anyways. I've only gotten in 28 ozs of fluids. The struggle is real

I'm struggling with my gut having fits, like seizing up. VERY painful. Takes my breath away. In the hospital it did that and gave me nausea pretty bad. I was sleeved 11/8 and released 11/10 but they almost were not going to release me cuz of that. Once I got home, I figured that I was just DAMNED HUNGRY!!!! At that point I had been 5 days with just liquids! So since I could have protein drinks, I made myself a nice smoothie and spent some time drinking that down. That helped so much. So I think my gut seizes up when I'm hungry ....that's my new hunger pain! Problem....it will do it about midnight, 2am or so. So I am literally getting up and putting something into me, shake or yogurt or jello or something to get it to stop. I am not struggling with the protein because I will double up on my scoops for a shake or use some Greek yogurt or add a scoop of medical grade whey isolete to my tea (30 grams right there with the tea!!). However, I am struggling with my fluids. My new gut HATES water. Which is weird because other than 2 coffees in morning before all I drank was water and not flavored or anything just a gallon of water every day. But now that same water makes my gut hurt a bit. So....what counts as "fluids"? I know if I make a cup of decaf tea or coffee that I can count that. Same with any flavored waters. I'm assuming that broth can be counted. Popsicles were mentioned. How about Jello? What about milk to make protein smoothies? I usually add water to them as well, and count that. I feel like I may be getting in my "fluids" just not counting them correctly. My husband and I had a good system yesterday. He was making himself a sandwich and wanted soup with it. I said what if we open 2 cans and I take the broth from one can and you can have the noodles etc. He said open one can, I hate the broth. Which I agree with but now I have to love the broth LOL So he had a pile of soup noodles and veggies and I had that broth. It was delish. I'm not on any pain meds. In hospital I didn't want narcotics and was able to manage any pain with super doses of tylenol and motrin. I've never had surgery or any reason to take pain meds so I was able to get away with that. My whole belly is very bloated. And seems "heavy". So much so that I find myself holding it when I walk down stairs and sometimes just walking. I have not been good about walking at home. I got released Friday night at 6pm and it was like -15 out with windchill factor. Same with all day yesterday (Saturday), insane wind and wicked wicked cold. Today is supposed to be cold but not as bad and sun out...so I will be taking advantage and going on multiple walks. My little dogs are going nuts without there walks. Oh and my hubby is driving me insane. Every time I move, are you ok. I get out of bed in the night to potty, are you ok. I get that he's concerned, but I really am doing ok with the exception of my damned new stomach seizing up. He goes back to work tomorrow and I will go back to work on Thursday. Hopefully he'll stop a bit once he's busier. LOL So any suggestions on the fluids. I'm open. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to heal and get to living again. Oh and PS....my husband was eating potato chips and I wanted one soooo bad. I wanted his grilled cheese sandwich too!!! I didn't feel hungry, so there's my head hunger just a day out of hospital!! ugh!

I had 8th too. Home as well a couple hours now. I am getting the worse cramps in my gut. It's like my stomache is siezing up. I've had a few sips of tea, some jello. My dr has us take a prolisec each day. You open the pill and mix the beads with a bit of applesauce or yogurt and swallow. Well since I did that, my sleeve is cramping up even more.Does this ever go away? I'm prett miserable.

I was sleeved yesterday. I was great walked no pain. I felt nauseous 1x & they gave me meds for that. Today had the barium test so they could see if any leaks. Since then feeling kinda blah. I'm supposed to be sipping 1 oz of water each hr my stomach cramps up with it something terrible. I had dry heaves earlier today. I'm starting to swell up & they changed the fluid bag to something without sugar because my sugar went up to 177 & it's normally low 90's. The cramping in my stomach feels like it's seizing up. I keep walking walking walking hoping that goes away. I'm also freezing most of the time & I'm rarely cold
