My partner had his gastric sleeve surgery in October and is now down to 14.5st from 19st. His ideal weight was 15st. He's finding that he is struggling with solids and is still having to eat puree foods or minced chicken. Although he can eat the odd crisp and low unsalted popcorn if chewed slowly. His taste has changed and he struggles with certain red meats. Has anyone else experienced this at the 3 month stage? He thought he would be further down the line with food by now. His surgeon has said that it is fine and some people just take longer than others. He was also concerned that his weight has still not stabilised. He is taking the high strength vitamins and his bp is now low and the type 2 diabetes is reversed. He is also having quite a few dumping issues when he tries to eat what he craves at the time. He wonders if it could be psychological that he feels sick after eating certain foods that have caused dumping in the early days. He has a degree in food and nutrition so knows what he needs to eat but his body seems to have other ideas.

Hi. My partner is having the gastric sleeve op in 5 weeks time because he is type 2 diabetic and needs to get off the medication. He is only slightly over weight. He used to be into his sport in a big way but has lost a lot of fitness due to the effects of the weight gain and medication side effects. So, my question is, what support did you feel you needed from your partner or family/friends after the op? Was it more about having someone to talk to openly about how you were feeling? Did you have mood swings? How did you feel in the first few days after the op with limited eating ability? How did you keep occupied in those first 2 weeks after the operation? Any tips and ideas greatly appreciated.

Supporting a partner after the operation
Hislassie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on how i can prepare myself to support my partner before and after his gastric sleeve op in 5 weeks time. He's having the op due to being diabetic. He is only slightly over weight. He's not able to do as much sport and training and is keen to get back to a similar level as he was a few years ago. So, what kind of support have people found they needed? Was it more about being able to talk openly to your partner about how you feel? Were there mood changes? How did you keep yourself motivated those first few days after the op? Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated. -
Sport and fitness hydration after gastric sleeve operation
Hislassie posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi. My partner is keen to get back to full fitness after his gastric sleeve operation in 5 weeks time. He is hoping to reverse his type 2 diabetese. My question is, due to the restriction on the amount of fluids you can take onboard, how do you keep hydrated and get sufficient nutrition if you want to take part in physically demanding sports like iron man competitions or cycling and running? Has anyone done this after recovering from surgery?
