12 days post op & STARVING!!!
Nessy76 replied to dfhtuy89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember being completely ravenous the first couple weeks post op. I still get hungry now (real hunger) but it is much more mild and manageable. The first few weeks are a wild ride, hang in there, it will get better. -
Hey all, i am 7 weeks out and just started exercising (30 min on elliptical once a day). Where I had been feeling great, good energy etc. I now find myself exhausted and falling asleep early evening. I want to exercise but I wonder if its too much with such limited caloric intake (appx 800-900 cal/day) or maybe this is just a hump I will get over when my body adjusts. I work full time and go to school full time so I need to be functional, any input appreciated. Thanks!

As others have said, it could be one of many things...but I would def be concerned for dehydration, headache is always my first sign that i'm dehydrated.
-
I returned to work after 2 weeks and was still a bit sore and drained as my work has me on my feet most of the day. Ideally I would have taken 3 wks as that was really when I started to feel “normal” again. It gets appreciably better each day post op. Congrats and happy healing!

September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
Nessy76 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 months out and 30lb down, feel great. Still trying to ease into exercise, difficult because I find myself falling asleep at 5 pm on days I exercise, but it definitely feels good to be moving again. Still taking in around 900 cal/ day. -
September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
Nessy76 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you are losing again by now but it is completely normal to sit at a weight for a number of days then start dropping again. It doesn't seem to make sense when you think about the calories you are taking in but that's how our bodies work. -
What do you think of these pre-op shake brands?
Nessy76 replied to 823freckles's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I really like the Orgain products, I used them pre op and still do post op. I like them bc they don't have the artificial sweeteners etc. that some of the others have. That being said, they are not as sweet as some of the other products out there. Sometimes you can find single serve packets or individual ready made shakes of various products at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe etc. so you can try them out. Also, be aware that your tastes or tolerance for shakes may change between pre and post op. My surgeon wanted me on whey protein, which I had no problem with pre-op, post op it made me nauseous...I just gave that $90 jug of Naked Whey to a friend. -

Post-op: How long until you ate real food?
Nessy76 replied to Rose400491's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
No pre-op diet. 1 week full liquids, 4 weeks pureed, 4 week soft ..then normal. A lot of variety in the diff plans for sure. -
People come in all shapes and sizes..at 5'3" and 230 I wore a size 22 Levi's...At 201 I can still wear them, they are baggy but not falling off me. Today I am wearing size 18 levis, they are a little snug. I am def of the apple shape variety, as most of my weight is right in the middle.

Never Ending Comments About my Body
Nessy76 replied to Kat410's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
CowgirlJane, congrats on maintaining your loss! Soo much great insight in these comments. It feels like i'm in a mini social experiment sometimes and people do say the strangest things. -
I took 2 weeks and wish I had taken 3. If I had a desk job I think 2 weeks would have been ok, but I am on my feet and bending a lot at work so it was uncomfortable and exhausting.

I think you are right Jess, I was thinking of famotidine and ranitidine, but those are not PPI's.
-
Just a note on omeprazole (prilosec). Unlike other PPIs, omeprazole does not work immediately, it can take up to 4 days to kick in.

Never Ending Comments About my Body
Nessy76 replied to Kat410's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Strivingforbetter.. I looked at her dead faced and told her I lost 50 lbs. I work in veterinary medicine so sometimes the human to human social skills here are lacking. Funny, it's only women who have commented, all the men I work with haven't said a peep. -
I just looked back through the last month, I averaged between 60-70g. I do not eat refined carbs or anything with added sugar. I do eat beans, peas and usual 1 serving of fruit / veg a day.

Never Ending Comments About my Body
Nessy76 replied to Kat410's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow, thanks for starting this thread. I was just thinking about this today and whether I was also being too sensitive to the constant comments/ inquiries. I told people at work because its not something i'm ashamed of and I was not interested in lying to people (even if its not their business). Last week my boss asked me if I lost any weight yet, others ask "how i'm doing?' which I take as "how much weight have you lost?".. I love my co-workers, they have been very supportive, and I know it's almost all coming from a sincere concern or curiosity but it's starting wear on me. Like Apple, I usually say "great, thanks!" and change the subject. -
I'm 7 weeks out, unfortunately I wasn't one of those that lost their hunger. It was a very dramatic hunger the first 2 weeks, like my stomach was physically turning inside out, uncomfortable really. I just made sure I had something with me so I could eat every 2-3 hrs. I still get hungry every 2-3 hrs but its much more manageable now and I can ignore it if I chose. I have never been on a PPI, it's not part of my surgeon's protocol and I have had no issue with reflux.

Sounds about right, my surgery weight was 230 and i lost 20 the first month.

Hmm, maybe you can post a picture of what you have and someone might recognize them.

Started Exercising..now exhausted
Nessy76 replied to Nessy76's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you everyone for your responses. As the veteran’s have stressed, i’m just trying to take advantage of this window of opportunity to take off as much weight as possible. Also trying to maintain muscle mass as I have read that with rapid wt loss you are also sacrificing muscle. 30 min of elliptical didn’t seem like very much activity to me but maybe my body is telling me otherwise. -
Are u counting calories yet???
Nessy76 replied to admrn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have logged everything I have eaten on my fitness pal since about day 3. I started logging mostly to keep track of protein intake but also calories. I have generally taken in 700-900 cal since 1 wk post op., I know others that are taking in fewer calories but this is what works for me. It takes a bit to figure it all out and to see what works for you, good luck on your journey. -
Starbucks skinny Mocha. OMG!
Nessy76 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 7 weeks out, have had an iced latte unsweetened or starbucks skinny cinnamon dolce w/ skim milk almost every day since about week 2. 110 calories and 10g of protein..14g of sugar (milk sugar)...plus its 24oz of fluid. I consider it my mid morning meal. Asked my nutritionist about it and she was fine with it, its' just milk and coffee when you think about it. The problem comes when they are sweetened. Enjoy. -
At this point my only plan is to get my protein/ fluids in, however long it takes.
