I am 53 years old. My Sleeve surgery date was Aug. 24, 2017 with Blue Valley Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. My surgeon was Dr. Pruitt.
It took a little over 3 weeks to be approved with MissouriHealth Net. The process took a little over 2 months, start to finish. It went fast.
I had been seen by my primary caregiver for a year, before I decided on the sleeve surgery. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and daily insulin shot were putting weight on me fast. I had trouble with everyday duties and they became harder and harder for me to accomplish.
I do not have a weight goal. My goal is to feel better, get off all or some of my medications, have more energy, and be able to do daily activities without struggling. I am currently off of 2 of my medications and I'm 1 week post-op.
As for the surgery, I stressed my concerns to my surgeon and anesthesiologists. I did well and walked from the recovery room, to my room. I didn't have much gas pain at all, but I did have nausea and vomiting the first day. They put more fluids in me and I kept down Gatorade and never got sick again, so I was discharged, after one night stay. Everyone at the hospital was very nice and thorough. A special Thank You to Toshia my nurse. She was awesome. I have some complaints with my night nurse, but I'll leave it at that, for now.
BVSA gave me the choice of a motel stay or a ride to the hospital...I chose a one night motel stay at Drury/Double Tree and my daughter drove me. They provide breakfast and dinner, plus drinks and popcorn for your travel partner. We swam and used the hot tub. Everyone was very nice there.
Today is my one week post-op appointment with BVSA in Springfield, Missouri and I am doing very well. Very little pain, and I drove myself to the appointment. Really, the only pain is when bending, so I'm taking it slow on that.
I'm drinking, drinking, drinking. I find it hard to get in 64oz. by just sipping. I am now taking bigger drinks and doing well with that and getting my limit in. I am eating creamed soups, sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicle, sugar-free hard candy, and drinking 3 Slim-Fast protein Shakes a day. I feel hungry in the evenings-nights, so I'm going to add more protein. I eat 4 oz at a time and don't feel full. In one week, I start soft foods.
I already feel so much better and healthier. The struggle is real, but I'm not regretting it for a second.
