    Vitamins

Yeah, the nurse practitioner who works with the bariatric patients wasn’t too thrilled that I use them but she told me just to make sure they are completely macerated before I swallow. They are the only ones that don’t make me sick so I chew, chew and chew and then chew some more! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Vitamins

Are they chewable? If they aren’t you can crush them. The vitamins are totally fine but I’d still double check with dosing with your md. The problem would be with the size if they aren’t chewable. Crushing them and putting them in apple sauce or something wld be the solution if they aren’t chewable. Vitamins

I’m hypersensitive to nausea and the bariatric ones put me over the edge, bad. I take a women’s gummy that has biotin and calcium. My 4 month blood tests came back great so despite them having a small amount of sugar in them, they’re the only ones I can tolerate. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Pizza

The cauliflower crust one from Trader Joe’s is actually pretty good! My kids didn’t even notice when I gave them some. Satisfied that pizza goodness! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Roller Coaster Freak Show

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry you had such an awful dinner and then the coworker thing. First of all, cheers to you for getting up and leaving when the cake came out! That took strength! I have noticed that my choice to have surgery and the weight coming off triggers people and we are NOT responsible for other people’s triggers! Maybe come up with something to say at work, if anyone is ignorant enough to open their mouths, have something to say like, “since the surgery is a tool to help me, slow and steady wins the race.” And leave it at that. It’s not like a boob job where you’re an A cup Monday and Tuesday you are a DDD. I am so, so sorry you’re in a crap place today. Focus on how you made an amazingly difficult decision to improve your health. And, if u want to go out to dinner, go! When I was at your phase I ordered broth with soft tofu at a ramen place and it was amazing to feel a little normal and taste something I didn’t make! Know it all family members....

When I finally told my family, my dad said “I think you should’ve done it years ago!” That wasn’t what I was expecting, at all. He is an anesthesiologist and works with a bariatric surgeon so I am getting a lot of “we see so many people gain their weight back.” As far as in laws, I have not told them a thing bc my sister in law knows everything too. I am so hypersensitive about the weight and HATE talking about it and I overheard her telling a complete stranger, “my sister in law has been struggling with her weight...” and I wanted to dig a hole and hide. I see a wonderful therapist who has such amazing advice for how to deal with the comments. If you see one or have access to one, they can totally help! I’m so sorry your sister in law is like that. I will say, and tho we all know this and it took years for me before it really sank in, but it is all her sh*t and you’re just the lucky one she projects it on. 8. I had coffee right away too and used monk fruit sweetener while I was healing. They worry about letting us have it too soon bc of the acid as well as being a diarrhetic so just drink an extra glass of water!! 8 weeks out you shld be totally fine Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150
  9. I’ve also given away tons and tons and literally have 6-8 pieces of clothing I mix and match. Now that it is starting to warm up, I’m panicking bc all I have is winter stuff. It feels really, really good to have a really well cleaned out closet but I do look like I’m wearing a uniform with such a small wardrobe! 10. I’m down about 70 lbs and I’ve had several people ask me if I’ve changed my hair. I’m hoping they’re just being a bit awkward bc I’m hoping that 70lbs is much more noticeable than a hair cut. But at the same time when someone says I look like a whole new person, I feel weird. I never knew this part of the journey was going to be uncomfortable. I didn’t struggle with weight until after my kids and gained over 100lbs so when people tell me I look like a whole new person, I actually just look like me again. I’ve also been dealing with not grasping the fact that I’m not 256 lbs anymore and am afraid to embrace my new weight. I’m so used to failing over and over again in the weight loss department that I’m terrified to let this be real. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Weed smoking before surgery

I never had anyone say anything to me if it did show up. I use it regularly but didn’t have any starting a week before. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150
  12. I am with you guys too! As of today, 68 lbs down. I was sleeved on August 7. It’s been slow losing since Christmas time but I am 100% At fault for that, eating too much processed and refined sugar/carbs. Though my calories are low, especially compared to where I was, I’m not making the best choices. I’m dealing with my food addiction demons of popping stuff into my mouth even when not hungry, and I really need girls scout cookies to just GO AWAY. they don’t even taste that good to me now but that hasn’t stopped me. Ugh. I’m secretly hoping for a transfer addiction to home organization! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 188 on 3/7/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Struggling with pre-op diet

I totally agree that the pre op was the worst part! Ugh!! Surgery and everything has been easier than pre op! Honestly, I slept as much as my schedule would allow. If I was sleeping, I wasn’t eating or thinking about food. I also would drink lots of tea, I did use honey, and chicken broth. How long is your pre op? Mine I was two weeks and I had to use the shakes and soups they gave me and I didn’t think I’d make it but I did! Just keep reminding yourself it’s to prep your liver-that helped me! Way different mindset than diet mentality but it still sucked. Hang in there! I’ve got your back!! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150
  15. I’ve done it before too and it is so painful! I couldn’t sleep the other night because of it. So awful! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Hummus

Trader Joe’s has them. Be careful, they can cause painful gas if you eat too many; however, i binged on them last year before surgery. Probably would get too full on them, especially with hummus, before it would get to that point now since the sleeve. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150
  17. The insurance coordinator at my bariatric surgeon’s office had a list of phycologists they use for the evals. She did give me a sample letter to give my own therapist but I see an MFT, not an MD or PhD so I just went and did the session with one of the ones the bariatric people suggested. I did get extra letters from my therapist and OB supporting the surgery that I submitted to insurance as well. I was approved first time around. Don’t know if the extra letters helped or not but figured they couldn’t hurt! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150

    6 days post op

Same here-I got mine the next morning at the hospital. The nurses said it was totally normal. Hang in there! The bloating is probably the swelling from surgery. Mine took a while to go down but once it did, the odd lumps and bumps post surgery in my stomach went away as well. Try sipping bone broth. I bought all this protein power before surgery and I couldn’t stomach any of t post. Only thing that didn’t turn my stomach was chicken bone broth. It’ll get better! Hummus

I use those cheese “crackers” that are basically just baked cheese. They’re super filling tho! Yummy but filling. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Embarrassing question

Totally ketosis. I had the same thing and it’s totally common, especially the first 6 weeks after surgery. It was so bad at one point that when my husband and I were just talking, he stopped for a second and asked if the cat or dog had an accident. Nope, no animals pooped in the house, it was my breath. That was an awesome moment bc I was totally paranoid after that. Strong, sugar free mints were my constant companion. Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150
  21. Are they talking just for the pre op or healing stage? I lived on soups and protein drinks. You cannot gulp an intense smoothie bc it’ll hurt if you get too full but you can have some. Your stomach is so small and swollen at the beginning that you have to choose to put the most nutrient dense foods into your new tummy-u don’t want to get full on stuff that doesn’t give you protein. And yes, frozen precooked chicken is great! The pre op and healing stages can be hard but you will be a pro before you know it!! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150
  22. I do a Pilates reformer class two days a week to help my core and orange theory one to two days a week. I get one leisurely walk in a week too but it’s 3 miles. I’m trying to set realistic goals so I don’t feel like I’m failing if I can’t make it, like when I have a sick kid home Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150
  23. All of a sudden I am getting horrible stomach aches post acidic foods, even lemon in my water is upsetting my stomach. I had a half of banana and and was in such pain, that acidic stomach ache, and I didn’t even think they were that acidic. I’m now running around with Rolaids in my mouth like my grandmother used to when I was a kid. I never was prescribed an antacid like Pepcid other than when I had to take steroids for 5 days about 10 weeks out in October. I have several bottles of Rx strength Pepcid left over, maybe I should start taking it. Anyone else having similar issues? Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150

    Weight loss for far

Yay you! I’m also 60lbs down and 46 more to go! Yay us!!!!! Sleeved 8/7/17 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 197 on 1/3/18 5'7" GW: 150
  25. Anyone else struggling with missing the ability to eat?? Went to lunch the other day with a couple friends and was so excited for this super yummy place and literally can only eat a few bites, and slowly, before that absolute “have to stop” line is drawn. I kind of envied my, normal sized, friends’ ability to eat more than 3-4 bites. I noticed them looking at my plate as it wasn’t a large lunch to begin with, and tho no one said anything, I felt a little insecure. Tho I love my weight loss and understand this was the tool that I desperately needed, at the same time, I miss the ability to eat. Ugh...
