Using Jello shots sounds like a good idea--I'll try that, although I really do NOT like jello it is the leasser of a few evils (applesauce, plain yougart). What kind ofcontainers do you use for each shot? I'mthinking of getting those little cups with lids and our restaurant supply store (I think they hold one ounce.) Thanks.

Who's Getting Banded in August???
Irish76 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the instructions that the glitter banner--I wouldn't have figured it out by myself! I am getting banded on August 20th in Davenport IA. I have to be on a low carb (read: no bad carb diet) for 2 weeks in advance so I went ahead and started it already. All bloodwork and other tests are all good so now just have to revisit each of the clinic's team members--nut, nurse, psych, pharmacy therapist, physical therapist, and the surgeon- one more time and get my preop instructions. I am excited and getting nervous at the same time.. -
I never thought it would happen to me.....
Irish76 replied to JennyLynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ohh, I am so sorry to hear this. We all know how hard it is to not eat when we're stressed and depressed. Please hang in there and try to not eat...it really doesn't help. If he's doing drugs and fooling around he has more serious problems than you do. Take your son under your wing and protect him everyway that you can. My prayers are with you. -
Hi, I have my date! August 20th, Davenport IA. Please add me to the list and thanks.

Prayers needed for a fellow bandster
Irish76 replied to hootiebelle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just read this thread...please tell Joan that I am thinking of her and keeping her in my prayers. I am glad to read that she is on the mend but I will continue to pray for her. Your are a good friend for all you have done for her. In my Prayers... -
Question About The Band
Irish76 replied to Ryanband07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is that the well chewed food sits in the stoma for a while and slowly seeps through the very small opening to the rest of your stomach. That is why you feel full longer because the hole is so small that it takes a while for the food to move through. Also, because of the small opening, liquid takes a while to seep through so that is why you shouldn't drink before a meal--you'll feel full faster with the liquid sitting there. If you drink during or right after a meal, the the liquid will take some of the well chewed food with it as if seeps through at a faster rate, then your hunger is not satisified as long. I know that I am rambling, I hope this helps. -
Who's Getting Banded in August???
Irish76 replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am shooting for the second week in Aug. I will know more on 8 Jul when I meet the surgeon. I am all for support (giving and getting!) so count me in. Anyone in Iowa or Illinois? -
Endoscopy concerns
Irish76 replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Frazzeld Mom, I agree with the others, getting the IV in my arm was the hardest part--it didn't necessarily hurt just had trouble finding a vein. I was rolled in, had a very nice nap while I had the colonsocopy and endoscopy done. Since I had them done at the same time it took a little longer. I don't remember anything, I didn't even have the scratchy throat or anything. I just awakend, laid in bed for a about 20 minutes while they monitored me and then the DR came in said all is well and my DH drove me home by way of a diner because I was very hungry! I believe that my surgeon requires it of all patients but I have an ulcer so I definately had to have it. -
I read your entry and could swear that I wrote it! My husband has an attitude of "ok, yet another diet". He went to the first seminar with me and that was it. I have gone through all the other appts alone. He keeps enticing me with cake and ice cream and wants to go out to dinner/breakfast/lunch more than usual. I was getting really annoyed and then realized that he is just as scared and nervous as I, he just doesn't know how to deal with it. I am the one in charge at our house, I make all the decisions so when I made this decision, I made it alone. He will be with me for the surgery but hopes to be able to go back to work that afternoon. He really doesn't get it. If you want to commiserate you can private message me. We WILL get through this together.

Isopure fruity drink thingies...
Irish76 replied to MicheleK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the Kashi Go Lean Protein Drink powder. I put it in the blender with ice, 1/2 banana and skim milk. Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks are not bad.I did not like the Unjury at all. I like Muscle Milk--the chocolate and the Cookies and cream are real good. I have a vanilla in the fridge now, I intend to add instant coffee (decafe of course) for a creamy coffee drink. Also, sometimes (especially in the later afternoon when dinner is still far away) I add a Special K Powder Protein (5 grams) to a Special K Protein Drink. It is yummy and 10 grams of protien. It'll keep me satisfied enough to get home and get dinner on the table. -
What's the deal with PROTIEN??
Irish76 replied to LB4Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut has me taking a chewable multi vitamin and a B complex daily. I have to be careful and not intake any Vitamin K (interfers with blood thinners I take for a cardio problem)so I take the Flintstones chewables. -
What about trying a slice of turkey deli meat for breakfast? I am not banded (yet) but I do that now for a quick breakfast in the car with a piece of fruit. I just roll it up and munch on it.

Need advice on drinking prior to eating
Irish76 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not banded yet--hoping for August 08. I was on a business trip last week (with a large group of people) that required a LOT of walking. By the time we got to a place to eat dinner I was very dehydrated (I sweat profusely if the temp is over about 60 F even if I'm standing still--that day it was in the 80's and very humid.) I needed several glasses of water to cool down and stop the headache & light headed feeling. I drank water all day but still needed some when we were seated. It accured to me that is going to happen again after surgery and I need to figure out now how to handle it. I have to do these trips several times a year. Any suggestions on how to handle physically NEEDING fluids prior to eating??? This has me quite concerned. -
Need advice on drinking prior to eating
Irish76 replied to Irish76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, everyone! I feel much better. I had wondered about the water going right through (at least fairly quickly anyway.) I love this site! Everyone is so helpful and encouraging.... -
I had my psych eval on 2 Jun. I talked to the counselor for about an hour--why do I want the surgery, what do I know about the surgery and it's ramificiations, what I expect it to do for me, etc. The I had to take about 4 tests. The main one is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)--567 true/false questions. I am not sure what the results were except they called and said that I got the go head to meet with the surgeon and get the ball rolling. So, c'mon 8 Jul! I'll know more after meeting with the Dr. :tongue2:

surgery cancelled so sad and mad right now
Irish76 replied to lilnora2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh how frustrating! I would be a basket case if that happened to me. I have atrib---heart suddenly beats fast for a little while then goes back to normal. Am on blood thinner for it, but Cardio has encouraged me to look into the surgery. So, hopefully, you will get a sound diagnosis and get right back in line for the surgery. Hand in there and let us know how things turn out. Take care. -
I have a CPAP and use just the nasal pillows--no mask. Maybe you could look into them. I just had anesthesia for some day surgery last week and the CPAP was not a problem at all. And, I agree with the rest, someone will pay he&& if they try to take my CPAP from me---I love it. Cannot sleep without it and don't want to either. I cannot imagine being without it ever again. I sleep sooo well now.

Question about Vitamins
Irish76 replied to LeslieR041906's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Flintstones and B Complex. I have to do the Flintstones because they do not have Vit K---which helps the blood clot and I am on blood thinners for a heart problem. -
Would Love Feedback, Thanks!
Irish76 replied to jomarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jomarie, I am shocked at the treatment...I would definately be looking for another Dr. I worry about your post-op treatment. How are they going to respond once they have your (or your ins) $$? Emergencies come up every day, but that does not mean that they have to be rude or uncaring about you. Let us know how it goes. -
Yippeee for you!!! I see the psych on 2 Jun and I am very nervous, not sure why but I am. My insurance is not supposed to be a problem and I have already talked to the Dr. So everything rides on the psych's decision.

Suggestions Please On Best Tasting Protein Shakes
Irish76 replied to slim2be's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the Kashi Go Lean chocolate shake powder blended with ice cubes, skim milk and a banana. Makes a lot and I drank some leftovers the next morning and it still tasted good. I just ate an entire bag of Oreo cookies...
Irish76 replied to Abby Normal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Abby, I am not banded and I am scared to death. (I just ate some biscuits while reading your entry--even though I have two fruit cups sitting right on my desk.:tongue2:) I'm looking at this procedure as something that will help me change those bad habits...not change them for me. I try to get on this site at least once a day and I read about people struggling to overcome "our" bad habits and struggling for the strength to get through the day without sabotaging themselves. I haven't read anyone say that this is easy or a piece of cake :scared2:. What I have read are mostly supportive comments from people who seem to really care that everyone succeeds. I think that you have come to the right place for most of your support, but I agree that you still need to find someone to help you figure out the "WHY?" I eat question. Hang in there and let us know how you're doing periodically.:smile2: -
Do you sometimes NOT like the changes you see in the mirror?
Irish76 replied to dancinglamb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh Folks, This has been the best laugh that I have had in weeks! Thanks so much! I am not banded yet but can really relate, especially with the "Girls" thinking that their BBF's are my kneecaps. I have been thinking about getting a full length mirror--hopefully I will be able to keep my sense of humor as I watch my body sag to my feet. -
Aquameliza My co-worker recommended a bra (not underwire) that clasps in front...not a lot of support but good for recovery. I already have one b/c I have to have a holter monitor test every 6 months. I got mine at a Cathrine's but JC Penney has them too.

Long2BFree If you don't like Unjury what others did satisfy your hunger? I am just starting to look into them and have already spent a small fortune just to find out they taste terrible.
