About Me

  • Biography
I have been battling with my weight, since my 30's. No diet has worked long term and every year added a few pounds. I do not eat a large amount and overall eat a healthy diet, but did have a weakness for pizza and beer.

    IBS Before Sleeve Surgery?

I had IBS-d prior to my surgery on 8/9, I did have problems with constipation after and took miralax daily for about 6 weeks. I have had no further issues and do not miss the awful cramping and bloating, feel great now.

    Salad!! OMG

I had a steak salad at 8 weeks. I tried them separately, to see how I tolerated it and had no issues. I was sleeved on 8/9. Lots of chewing, but was a joyful experience. I've also found that Greek dressing is very low in sugar and is now my favorite with all my salads. It also helps me reach my calorie goal of 1000.

    12 weeks post-op: Pain Meds

I have been battling synovitis of my knee since one week post op. Normal course of treatment is oral steroids and NSAIDS. My surgeon said no to every anti inflammatory med. I waited until week 6, when he was finally ok with a cortisone injection. He felt very strongly about the increased risk of a GI bleed with the new sleeve. I'm now 10 weeks out and still have swelling, just doing PT now. I've really missed my Motrin!

How many calories do you eat per day?

I still get full after 2 ounces of protein. I am trying to eat every 2-3 hours, but I'm a nurse, at times, I don't have time to pee, let alone eat....it's much easier to reach my protein goal with food on my days off, but I still do one protein shake a day.

How many calories do you eat per day?

I just had my 6 week follow up, and was told by my surgeon to be between 800-1000 per day, any lower and weight loss will be slower, due to the body being thrown into starvation mode. My nutritionist said not to be to obsessed by calories, but to try and get in 80 gms of protein a day. I've been logging everything I eat and I have found it's hard to get 80 gms of protein a day with just food. I've had to go back to adding a second premier protein drink in to reach it.

    Air Fryer Goodbye Fried Foods

I still can't eat, as my surgery was 8/9 and I'm on purées still, but I've used my air fryer a ton for feeding my kids. I love it and they do too. I've cooked everything in it vegetables, chicken, fish and they said it made an amazing grilled cheese. It's so much quicker, not having to wait for the oven to pre heat and clean up is a breeze.
  10. My surgery was 8/9, First weight was at my 2 week post op. My Dr recommended to check my weight weekly.

    Post Bariatric Barium Test

I did not have the barium test and was released the next afternoon. I was told, they thoroughly check for any leak prior to closing.

    Need a pal...or several!

My surgery was 8/9, and I'm still on liquids until 8/30, then on to puree....I am down 21 lbs so far but, have had a setback with a knee injury. Damn squats... strained my MCL. Worse part is I can't take any anti inflammatory medication. I'm using my left over pain meds to help, but worried this inactivity will slow down progress. Is everyone one else exercising daily yet?

    Last Minute Tips?

I wish I had ear plugs, I was right next to the nurses station and it was pretty loud...

    Help please!

My nurses gave me IV pain meds around the clock the first day. Second day I was put on liquid pain medication. This managed the pain well, but the key was walking. I had to walk once every hour when I was awake. Pain was completely gone by day #5. Surgery was also 8/9....Good luck!
