  1. Pre op diet has been a struggle for me at times too. Especially like when the other people in my house can have the food I know I shouldn't eat, but love anyway. I'm grateful it's not a terribly long time til my surgery and I just won't be interested in that kind of food. I just have to keep reminding myself why I chose this in the first place (which honestly isn't that hard). I got into a lot of bad behaviors with food, so I'm having to re-learn healthy eating habits. It's a little hard to imagine life without some foods, but I know it will be better for me in the long run. You'll learn to adjust, it's just hard to do after a lifetime of living a certain way.

    Anyone here?

Good luck! In my experience, calling to follow up helps to make sure you're not forgotten about. I'm now 5 days until my VSG surgery and I'm sure I'd still be stuck in pre op work if I hadn't advocated for myself.
  3. I'm working towards my doctorate in psychology and found the psych eval to be the most interesting part of my pre-op appointments. In general, I would suggest just coming in open and being willing to talk about your history. I have yet to meet a colleague who judged someone for their history. Mostly they're just concerned that you're emotionally healthy and prepared to take on the challenge of WLS, and if for any reason there's a reason they think you aren't ready they should be talking to you about why. If they don't you have a right as the patient to ask for that information. BUT! You all will be totally fine and pass without any issues. Good luck on your eval Dmano!
  4. I think it's always helpful to have other people going through it too. It's so much worse when you think you're the only one experiencing it. But you're not alone, and you will get through this and get the healthy body you want!
  5. You and I are really close in surgery dates! I just got the news yesterday that mine is scheduled for the afternoon of the 15th. I've been having anxiety on and off since I started doing pre-op appointments, and I had a dream last night about surgery. The scariest thing to me is the possible complications, but it helps knowing that most occur in 1 in 300 to 1 in 500 patients (which is what my surgeon told me). I think it's the initial phases I'm most worried about, but I'm excited because in the long term I know this is what i need to do to get healthy. As long as you follow your post op instructions you should be okay, but never hesitate to call the surgeon or someone in their office if you think something is off. Also, I've been cranky being on my pre-op diet as well. Sometimes I handle it well, but around certain people I don't hold it in as well as I'd like. I think it's because your body is already experiencing change, and not at a rate it's easy to adjust to.
  6. I had a lot of resistance to sharing my decision to have VSG early on. I started researching the procedure in January, when only my mom knew. Then as things got more serious I filled in Dad, Sister, and brother in law. Thankfully they've all been incredibly supportive. Most of the negative reactions, or at least the ones I interpret as negative, have been people's own reaction to the news. I kind of assume I don't "look like" the kind of person who would get this kind of procedure because of my age (25) and body type (tall with weight around the hips, but evenly distributed). I agree with the other commenters that you have to decide what you're comfortable doing, but especially now that I have a surgery date I'm excited about this change and couldn't care less what anyone else feels about it.
