    Weight loss stall

    1. hydrate 2. protein 3. no added sugar 4. no simple carbs 5. complex carbs from veggies 6. No snacking 12 hours at least from last meal to first of the day - most of that is asleep should be easy. take a cooking class or get new cookbook and try out new ways to make old favorites. I also fight the carb monster and i know the effect of that carb rush - hunger 1-2 hours later like you havent eaten in days. Will anyone be perfect - No- but the closer to this you can push the small and shorter you stalls will be. In my opinion - stalls are the result of low hydration low protein high carb diet with snaks added in. this results in constant elevated insulin level and the body will not burn fat in the presence of elevated insulin. Take it or leave it but if you are stalled what do you have to lose except the weight.

  3. have watched some of his YouTube and found him funny and real. Bit of a self promoter but i guess that is normal these days. Having been around here for a bit now i have seen the wide range of plans different surgeons use and his is one option. His strong Emphasis on the mental game i agree with. watch a few video and enjoy. take from them what you will. he is very entertaining if nothing else and who knows one of his suggestion might pull you thru a tough spot in the future.
  4. oh you will. 2+ years out - sooner for some - you can eat enough to get all protein from diet easy as long as you make the protein priority. those carbs however - well i dont want to scare you off so enough said

Butt and gut and other probs

hang in there Lex. Results vary and the timing varies greatly. You are under a huge amount of stress right now and since this a mostly mental game post op the stress can really do you in. You cant target the weight loss. Your body decides and that is that. You can tone the muscles under the fat but the fat does as it wants. my gut was my most hated and it was the dead last thing to start shrinking. You just have to keep on keeping on. The plan will work. The timing might not fit our mental wishes but there is little you can do. Follow your doctors plan and review it from time to time to make sure you havent started to slip up my personal list - as seen in many many of my posts (lol) 1. hydrate 2. protein 3. no added suagr 4. no simple carbs - thats just sugar misspelled 5. complex carbs from your veggies 6. no snacking 7. Does your workout routine still leave you in a puddle of sweat? change it up if your answer is no and lastly fight the good fight no surrender. It really is a mental game from here on out. all of the above is just my opinion and that and 2 cents will get you tossed out of a Starbucks.
  6. simple enough to test. Just switch to fiber every other day for 2 weeks and see what changes occur. you might find that the fiber is only need a couple times a week to keep everything moving smoothly.
  7. I have to say we dislike many of the same foods. i enjoy salsa - mild to medium- so that helps me a bit. I have never minded eating the same foods and now that i am this far out from surgery i find i can eat anything i used to eat but just in very small amounts. I dont eat certain things because of the issues i have with them-bread - but the meats i liked before i still like now and eat them now. The protein drink is just a part of life now. The real difference and this is huge - The food is not important - I know this is difficult to grasp. Post op food is just not the center of my life anymore. I eat to to stay healthy - not to self medicate. Please dont worry about food pre op. You will look and feel different about food after surgery. Post surgery is 95% mental. From Head hunger to emotional reactions to certain foods and smells it is all a head game after surgery. The surgery will do the work for your body. You have to do the work in your head and that is the actual hard part long term. good luck
  8. sorry your worried about looking 60. you will have saggy skin. cant say i have any on face so not sure what to say about that. i was more worried about living to 60 not looking 60 looking old and living to be old are a fair trade off for me sorry you do not seem to agree.
  9. The above posts have it right. nobody needs to know that the drink in your hand is water. Mio bottles are real tiny you could carry that around easy or just keep lemon or lime piece in glass. If your with date/spouse go with DD bit otherwise you might have drive some drunk home (lol)

    What am I doing wrong?

Charismatic, since it looks like weight issues have been very long term i would guess that you have a very trashed metabolic system. You may have a persistent elevated Insulin level. If you do your body will not access its fat stores even when you cut calories it just shuts down and makes you drag ass instead. Ask your doctor for an Insulin test - not a blood sugar test- a fasting insulin test. also no eating after dinner and no late dinners. zero snacking -bring on the hate don't care - use your evening and sleep time as a fast period to drive down blood sugar and with time to lower insulin levels. you cannot burn fat if you have elevated insulin levels. you need 3-4 hours between meals to allow blood sugar to return to normal before spiking again. snacks will just keep the level elevated and block fat burning. get your hydration cut all added sugar no simple carbs - limits on complex hit your protein target as per your plan get all your calories in 3 regular scheduled meals with nice gap between them. see your doctor about that test good luck i hope this stall passes quickly and you continue to do well
  11. Insurance coverage has huge variability. Hell some just flat out dont cover WLS. Only your Surgeon can answer this question clearly cause they most likely have worked with your Insurance company in the past. From a general perspective you have a high enough bmi and have at least 1 comorbidity. but Insurance is anything except rational so you will have to wait and see
  12. As long as you dont mind looking like your just picking at your food you will be fine. eating out feels more like a waste of money than before but as i said in another post i tend toward just the appetizers and skip the dinner plates. Just order your drink in a to go cup cause you cant drink for a bit (30 minutes) watch out for things with sauces they tend to be high in sugar and will make you feel like S H I T other than that you can find something ok in most every place you want to eat. you just wont eat much of it so make sure it makes a good second meal for the next day. I guess i kinda skipped over the first part of your question. i still like and enjoy food. I eat a lot less of it but i still enjoy what i do eat and i dont like to waste that meal time with things i dont enjoy and that do not taste good. i try to make each meal count - meaning something i enjoyed and not just mindless eating. My breakfast tends to be the same ole same ole but i like the food so that doesnt bother me. i haven't ran into anything that flat out wont agree with me except high sugar foods and i am glad of that but lots of folks don't even have problems eating sugar other than its bad for you that is (lol). The first months can be very different as you transition back to solids and get used to eating with your new pouch. 6 plus months out you can do pretty much what you want That is why you need to learn good eating habits right out the gate cause you will not always have the same negative feedback as from the early months.
  13. Hey Rocket, i had GS on my 50th birthday and can say without a doubt it was the best decision i ever made. it was my first ever surgery of any type so it was nerve wrecking as hell. Every post op experience is different but mine went very very well. slept 12 hrs after surgery. woke up started walking. went home next morning walked like crazy till i was cleared for gym then hit the treadmill and started to learn about the machines. energy levels were crazy scary during early months - have returned to a more normal now. off all meds and cpap machine. cant say enough good things about the second chance i have been given. hope this helps - cant promise the same experience but you will get the same second chance so go get it and dont look back

What The? I Stopped Losing Weight!

you can plateau at pretty much any time as its your body chemistry (hormones) doing the play calling here. just keep following the surgeons plan given to you and it will start again. 1. track your food - use app 2. cardio plus resistance training to power up the metabolism 3. watch those sneaky carbs cause they work against your fat burning. Last and maybe Most important dont weigh everyday. As you can see by how you feel right now when things slow the scale has a negative emotional impact.
  21. I hope your talk with your surgeon in a few days makes you feel better about the sleeve option. I was also scheduled for bypass at first but due to compromised circulation in 1 leg below the knee he felt the increased malabsorption from bypass would cause an increase in risk to my lower leg that was not justified by the small increase in weight loss could seen with bypass vs. sleeve. I have been Over the Moon happy with my GSV and hope you will be happy as well. You can achieve the results you want so dont let the change get you down.

    Goal weight vs Comfortable size

well i was 188 pounds at 18 but got down to 170 during time in the navy and i looked dam good at 170 even tho i was considered overweight for my height. so my long term goal as listed to the left is the min. needed to not be overweight for my height. i was in 9th grade the last time i was at that weight. i have shorter term goals i use as i work on that. my next one is to leave "obese" in the rear view mirror. 191 pounds of course those size 34 button fly levi jeans are calling my name so thats also a short term goal.

    Bariatric surgery and restaurants

I dont eat out often but i do it for my wife. anyplace with a large appetizer list works for me. i tend to skip dinner plates. i like the chicken won ton taco's at applebees . 3 real small chicken taco's and i ask to get my iced tea to go so i can drink it later in the car. Dont be afraid to ask for something to left off. always ask about sauces. my one and only truly awful meal out was when i failed to ask about a sauce in a chinese restaurant and the sugar level in the sauce was much higher than i was expecting and i was sick as a dog by the time i was chewing on the 2nd bite. Talk about negative reinforcement. i know i never want to go thru that again. i like to ask if they have salsa in the kitchen and ask for a small serving of it on the side so i can spice up things i might have pulled sauces from.
  24. Ok it is Official My Fat ass cant jump rope. 3 attempts over last hour before dark and i never got past 3 jumps. Dam how hard can it be if a child does it (lol) wanted to add 5-10 minutes of jump rope to routine to challenge myself and oh boy did i find a challenge. well see how long this takes to learn. My daughter (27) got a real kick out of the fact that the "old man" couldn't jump rope thats all right i got my revenge she inherited my huge calf's and reminds me all the time that no woman should be cursed with calf's this large (lol)
