  1. Cowgirl try a spoonful of Real Peanut Butter it is very good at both making you feel full but also more satisfied than just a piece of protein. I also found a slice of bacon did the same thing.
  2. So today was my monthly Costco run and i am trying a new protein drink.

plant based (Peas) instead of whey based.  I really really hate peas so i was worried but it is not bad.  Not as "smooth" i guess is the term i am searching for. The whey based was very creamy and smooth and the Pea based one not to the same degree.

I will use the whole 18 pak over the next few weeks and see if i just get used to the new mouth feel.

The part about low stomach acid is especially interesting to bariatric patients who have less stomach to produce acid, plus a smaller "chamber" for the acid to break down the foods. Good topic!

  4. So 2 years ago right now they were rolling me into surgery. My first ever time being put under and first ever overnight in a hospital since birth. Would i do it again? yes in a heart beat do i have Any regrets? No I believe i would be dead right now if not for this surgery. All of my health markers were headed down and the rate of decline was increasing. I owe Paula Duclo, Physician Assistant, my life for the day she walked in and asked if i would consider weight loss surgery. That started a nine month journey that she helped me navigate. Did the first weeks suck? Yes. Liquid diets and mushy soft food diets are not fun or interesting but those weeks don't last and you get better every single day. 3 weeks in and i was cleared to work out Lightly, as if i could have done any more. I am surprised i went back after that first day. It was humiliating. I actually couldn't fit between some of the machines. but i did, in the middle of the night 11 pm to 1 am when the place was empty and i worked up from 3 days a week to 6 days a week as the weight came off and i was less conscientious of my shear bulk i started going at a more normal 6 am I found this place and it helped to see others working thru the same journey in there own way. It is very much your journey and it will not match up with anyone else. We can support each other and be there when we need to cry or vent but everything else is on you(me). The decisions we make each day going forward. The new ways to approach food and the food choices we make will decide the level of success you can achieve and Maintain. Maintenance. That's the magic word for me now. Can i do this forever. Did i learn the needed new habits and new ways to approach food. We will find out over the next 3-5 years. For all of you new to this - be strong - you have made a great decision and a new lease on your life is in front of you. p.s - you don't get to pick where you lose the fat from and when your bottom looks like 2 deflated balloons and sitting is painful you just grin and deal with it. its still better than that day when i couldn't fit between the machines at the gym. Everyone have a great weekend - I am smoking ribs for my Birthday - dry rub only- no sugar

Well holy crap!!! I'd always suspected that the whey protein drinks were highly insulinogenic (for me), cuz my weight loss always responds better for me when I'm eating real foods than when I'm on protein drinks...and I read this as I'm drinking an atypical afternoon iced protein coffee cuz I've been doing a really "shitty" job getting my protein in since my surgery. :( Ok, starting tomorrow, no more protein drinks--all protein from food and I somehow someway make myself get in my 60-80g/day!!!

TY for sharing this!!! I'd either missed or ignored it. Those damn incretins! :(

those things that raise insulin but not blood sugar are so much harder to track and control.

no simple finger stick and done.

i am going to try a pea protein if i can find a small container to try out cause i hate peas and i dont know if i can get past the taste.

  6. 22 pounds yes 22 pounds of fat, no water weighs around 8 pounds a gallon and is the first thing you lose we carry so much water weight but as you eat less you hold onto less water. good luck going forward just as a side not i looked up my first 30 day weight loss, 42 freakin pounds from 8-1 to 9-1 post surgery 9 pounds the next month. stay positive when it slows down dont let that scale mess with your head
  7. you can't out exercise a bad diet. old but true can you get there with diet alone, yes will it take longer, most likely. remove sugar from your life. Processed Carbs are the Devil himself. Eat real food that still looks like it did when grown or raised. Those items tend to located on the 3 outside walls of your store. the items in the middle of the store are the ones that will kill your progress and with enough time, You There are lots of resistance training you can do while seated do not think cardio is the end all be all the recumbent bike. 1. 40 seconds nice and easy. 20 seconds pedal like freddy kruger is behind you repeat 3 times total then watch a better movie thats it for cardio 3 minutes as many times a week as you can the rest is resistance training (weights) good luck and i hope the weight loss will help the foot but you can get your goal either way

    Monkfruit sweetner

yes i use it and have no issues with it in small amounts. For me it has the least weird after taste and it does not cause an Insulin response as some other Artificial sweeteners do.

    Loss of appetite

the loss of taste is something i would call your doctor about. As for everything else. 1. get your water in - lets be real here none of us would starve to death very quickly we all have or had 10's of thousands of stored calories called fat. That no energy crash you are going thru, could be your body is not making the switch from Carb burn to Fat burn very smoothly or quickly. The longer your were overweight and the more you used to graze eat the harder it is for your system to get back to a normal that you do not even remember. So first call doc about sense of taste. keep getting all your water - dehydration is very bad eat what you can and not a bit more and don't raise your stress level over it. The mental aspect of post surgery is so much more important than some believe. Try any and everything to Relax - High stress levels will slow or stop your progress. First call your doctor when they open this morning if you haven't already. Good luck and keep posting your progress. we all learn from each others journey
  10. yes. small print at bottom of all ads required by lawyers to justify there continued existence. your mileage my vary and results shown here are not typical

Do you know your bougie size?

i almost would have agreed with you on Saturday. I had the most amazing Italian Meatball dish and it nearly brought me to tears when i could only eat one. It tasted so dam amazing. It is days like that when i am most grateful for the restriction and oddly most disappointed. I really like to play the mind games on myself obviously.

Do you know your bougie size?

never thought to ask. hmmm i wonder just how much variance from doctor to doctor there is.
  14. slow and steady wins the race.  don't get discouraged and just keep at it. Let your sleeve do its job and try not to stress yourself out.

hope you are all having a great summer and enjoying what your sleeve has given you.

bad news for fruit juice drinkers - sugar is just sugar -source doesn't matter

    1. FluffyChix

      FluffyChix

Actually source does matter. :( Fructose is much more of a liver bomb than pure glucose. And sucrose (a combo of fructose/glucose) is the devil used by big food companies to enslave the sheeple and plump up as fat as the Christmas goose...

But yeah, I know where you are going with this and in essence, ALL carbs (even good ones) break down to sugar/fuel of some derivation/formula.

  16. less you will get bored and sick of anything you have "stockpiled" just enough to get by for a few days then see what still taste good and you enjoy. work from that point forward. those first days are both amazing and crazy at the same time. just remember they don't last and it get better literally by the hour.

    High BMI

bmi of 51. i now weigh less than the day i got out of boot camp but without as much muscle mass. you can never be 18 again . it was a lot of work but i have no regrets. my normal bmi range is 121-159 and i am inside that range. for my age the surgeon was happy at 170 but i wanted to break that 159-normal as my last weight loss goal. Now its about maintaining and some days thats every bit as hard as weight loss so it gets better but not easier.
