    H-pylori bug

had same but got it cleared pre - op. so sorry you are going thru this a second time. its going to be a long 2 weeks. try to keep your mind occupied and work thru the rest of the treatment. it really sucks to have this dropped on top of the normal post -op crap you have to work thru. good luck and hang in there this to will pass
  4. I would make this a header over this group if i could

  6. Using just the posts here as a guide it does seem that some portion of us have a stall that seems to revolve around the food stages we go thru. When you transition to soft foods it seems to effect some more than others and they stop weight loss for a short period as there body's adjust to the switch from the liquid diet. its just observational but a lot of people here hit the same spot. It passes so try to keep from worrying to much.
  7. please ask your surgeons office for a referral to a councilor for help with depression. This surgery can help start you on the way to new life but post op is 95% mental and you can wreck it easy if you cant get there mentally. And as for your first question. Yes it is alright that you don't want to do the yo-yo again. The up and down of the weight is every bit as bad for you as staying heavy. The depression you have referred to is the real issue. If you get control of that then this surgery can lead to a great outcome. good luck

7 WKs Post Op and Pregnant

Only positive thoughts and prayers for you. May this be the first of many great things to come to you post-op
  9. So today i weighed in at 188, the same as the day i entered boot camp in 1984.

Guess that leaves my next goal to be getting to the same 170 i weighed when i left boot camp.

That truly was the best shape i have ever been in.  Funny but even then my bmi would have been listed as overweight.

I have always carried the bulk of my weight around the middle.  55" around the waist was the largest  i ever measured and that was 1 month post op before i could bring myself to look at the number.  Today that is 40"

I am truly saddened when i see the posts of people struggling  so much post op with pain or illness because i so want everyone to have the same amazing experience i have enjoyed.

We all experience this journey differently and i truly hope you all reach a goal that brings you a level of comfort and happiness that you deserve.

    Dining out post op

Protein dense appetizers - nothing breaded. And don't be embarrassed when you eat so little. just ask for a to go bag. Either just order water or get your drink to go from the start because you will not be able to drink it till way after the meal on the way home. Watch the sauces they tend to be very high in sugar and can make you sick as a dog. Don't waste money on a Entree. Just pick from appetizers. Have fun and enjoy- One of my top 10 Non Scale Victories was the first time i fit into a booth Post -Op
  11. Hang in there EWMS I know i feels dark and gloomy now but it will get better. Everyone take a different amount of time to recovery from what is a very big surgery. You are asking yourself WTF but guess what your body is saying the same thing to you. Just what the hell did you do to me? Your body will settle in to the new normal and slowly but surely you will recover and feel better. In a few months you will look back and while it will have been a tough slog you will be so glad you started to get some control back over your health and watching the weight go down will make everything worth it. In the mean time. 1. Water Is Life - work on the water above all else. Nothing will hurt you more than dehydration right now. 2. Protein - however you can get it down. Do you drink coffee? Premier Protein (liquid) makes a great flavored coffee. calories and food in general are not very important right now. Face it, we all have way more fat stored than we need or we would not be here. let yourself heal and stay strong.
  12. Weird Al doing Yoda live.  What a great night.

hope everyone has as good a weekend as me :)

Wish I could've seen him on this tour, but no, my wife had to go ahead and have a knee replacement that night. I saw Al the first time in 1984 then again in 2016, so I guess now I won't be able to see him again in 2048, another 32 years.

Ok, This will be my one and only response to all the above. You missed the point. Not everyone who gets WLS has any interest in body building and that is the info you provided. If you feed your body carbs just before a workout your body will use those carbs and only those carbs. I can't count the number of post i see every week with the same " i work out but don't lose weight" theme. Your body will burn easiest form of energy always. If you provide sugar it will burn sugar if you provide carbs it will burn carbs. Only in the absence of both of those will it burn FAT. Fat burning is energy of last resort your body will not go to it if there is any other source of ready energy. If building bigger muscle than before is your goal now then you need to feed those muscles as stated in the above posts BUT if your goal is body FAT reduction then you can not eat carbs before a workout. bookmark this post and in 3 months when you get ready to post about the stall you are in and how much you workout but dont lose any weight come back here instead. Goodnight, enjoy your weekend

    Exercise after surgery

get plenty of rest. A full nights rest is very important. Your energy level will increase day by day and as the weight drops it will get easier. Just do all you can and break it up in 20-30 minute sections a few times a day. The walking is great and in a few weeks add in light weights to maintain muscle tone good luck
  15. see the doc for a complete blood panel and see if anything jumps out at you.

At this early in the post op game the calories are ok. I would suggest that you switch up the order of your workout. For the best fat burn you should lift weights first followed by the cardio. No food for 2 hrs before workout if you can. The idea is to not have available sugar so that you are forced to burn fat during cardio not blood sugar If you are a body builder this is backwards but for max fat burn you need to burn off stored sugar before you will start to burn fat.
  18. try this mental game. when you feel hungry start the timer on your phone and dont eat for 1 hour. during that hour drink a bottle of water. lots of "hunger" is dehydration. When you do eat put a small amount of food in your mouth then put down the fork or spoon and do not pick up again until you have finished chewing and swallowed. place your hands in your lap during this process. this will help post surgery and you can work on the habit now.

    Sleeved 14th of May

the walking is the "thing" You cant walk to much and it will make nearly everything that feels bad in the first month feel better. grats and good luck
  20. Man i am right there with you. If we back up to last july i am standing right in that same spot. Hang tough and follow it thru. You will feel amazing when you dont have sleep apnea and find out what a good nights sleep is like again. The blood pressure meds will drop by wayside. The number 1 thing the sleeve does is make it possible to get the carb/sugar monkey off your back. its only about 6 weeks till you can eat "normal" food again. Thats a very small time from the rest of your life. Normal will be different and smaller but you will be happy with that trust me. the food addiction thing is very hormone driven so the sleeve will take care of that part but you will be responsible for the mental changes to keep it going after the physical addiction is gone. You will feel so much better and as the weight drops off you will find it easier to make the changes to keep it off. You can still cook and make wonderful food you just have to expand your horizons about food to keep from expanding your waist line.
  21. Medications do throw a curve into the post sleeve process. HRT does not cause weight gain according to NIH studies but Hypothyroid does so i would start there with a doctor visit and blood test to insure your med levels are correct. after meds the most normal cause of the 2 hr hunger monster is simply sugar spikes caused by sugar or simple carbs like bread. Fat is the Macro that provides satiety (feel full) so make sure you have a healthy fat in your first meal of the day and low carbs.

    VSG candidate, boyfriend NOT onboard!

Sad, Sad, Sad - Your are worried about a 7 year relationship but not worried about the lifetime relationship with yourself that you giving up on. This guy is not your forever - he isn't even your right now! He is a 7 year room mate that wants everything in his life to stay in his control and that includes you. You want your ankles to stop hurting - have the surgery lose the weight You want some control back over your life - have the surgery - chose yourself over others. You can not ever expect someone to truly love you until you love yourself enough to want the best for you. I am sorry i don't do the sweet talk and tend to upset people but you clearly have some emotional baggage and this boyfriend is just something you are afraid of letting go because the unknown is very scary. The unknown is also your best bet for a future because all the things you do "know" are failing you. good luck and i truly do hope you make the right decision for Your life.

    Just got approved for surgery.

most due. 3-6 months is real normal
  25. it does tend to slow from that point. 1. track your food - cant work the problem without data 2. hydrate - get that water in 3. oddly enough make sure your eating enough. If after tracking you find yourself below 1000 calories you should try to bump up a few hundred. 4. Protein - hit your protein target. if you are low you will lose muscle mass and that will decrease your metabolism. 5. No added sugar - watch those packages. 80% of packaged food has added sugar 6. cut out all simple carbs - that's just another form of sugar 7. complex carbs from your veggies 8. Zero fruit if you are stalled. 9. if you are not doing so already then add weights to your workout routine to build muscle mass and increase metabolism. good luck and stay positive. A negative outlook always has a negative outcome.
